Wang Chao arrived in the south, having faced a water monster's attack in the river at first, then getting entangled with the Black Clothes Society. In the Zhonghu Safety Zone, due to the Zhang Family Ring he wore, he gained Yuan Min's loyalty. He unexpectedly met Aikun'er in the black market and later encountered Ouyang En and Liu He in the Anfei Safe Zone. He also met Xiaocao. Over a month in the south felt like a dream.
Calculating, Shen Zhitao must have brought a large force over by now, but the opportunity to start a war had already passed. He wondered if Shen Zhitao was still stationed there. However, considering Shen Zhitao's intelligence, he believed nothing serious could have happened. The urgent task now was to find Shen Zhitao.
The three members of the Gliding Club escorted Aikun'er to a spot not far from the Zhonghu Safety Zone, where there was no danger. After bidding farewell to Aikun'er, Wang Chao sighed sadly. Ouyang En had been in the Anfei Safe Zone; seeing the situation was dire, he should have escaped by now. Wang Chao wasn't worried about Ouyang En's safety; after all, anyone who could endure Liu He's torment for half a year was certainly not foolish.
As they made their way with Xiaocao, they navigated through various Safe Zones until they reached the designated gathering place agreed upon with Shen Zhitao. However, upon arriving at the fixed location, they found no military camp stationed there. Wang Chao's heart sank; could Aivina have even dealt with Shen Zhitao's forces? But upon further thought, he realized that was impossible. With his guard team and an additional thousand troops, even if Aivina knew about their situation, it would be extremely difficult to eliminate this force.
Then Wang Chao sensed someone watching him from a nearby tree. Without hesitation, he drew a dagger from his waist and threw it at the tree. "Have you seen enough?" As he spoke, a small soldier jumped down from the tree and said to Wang Chao, "Captain, you finally showed up! Captain Shen has been waiting so long she's about to cry!"
"Stop joking around. Where are you stationed?" Wang Chao asked.
"Really! I saw her secretly wiping her tears that day!" The soldier continued. "Ahem, Captain Shen told us to camp across the river. I can't explain it all here; let's cross first!"
Wang Chao nodded. The three of them took a boat back across the river. Sure enough, on the other side, Wang Chao spotted green tents faintly visible among the trees. He hurried forward and saw Shen Zhitao sitting alone on a rock, staring blankly at her Spatial Ring as if lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Wang Chao approached her quickly. Upon seeing him, Shen Zhitao was first surprised and then immediately hugged him tightly. "Ouyang En said you had been missing for a week! I thought I would never see you again! Has the south been unified by The Black-Clad Society?"
Wang Chao patted Shen Zhitao's shoulder and reassured her, "It's okay; I'm back now!"
Shen Zhitao nodded and removed the Spatial Ring from her hand, lifting Wang Chao's hand to place it on his ring finger. The moment felt like a wedding on a green meadow. Just then, Ouyang En emerged from one of the tents and couldn't hide his excitement upon seeing Wang Chao.
"Brother Wang!" Ouyang En called out.
Wang Chao nodded and asked, "How did you end up here?"
Ouyang En sighed and said, "There are traitors in the Zhonghu Safety Zone. When you sent Yuan Min and me to monitor the movements of two factions, we had just arrived at our location when a large number of troops from the Anfei Safe Zone surged out. We were only a few dozen people and were immediately surrounded by them. Fortunately, I managed to escape, but Yuan Min was trapped by those people, and now I haven't found her!"
Wang Chao paused. Yuan Min's death was truly tragic, and he did not intend to recount the story here. He simply patted Ouyang En on the shoulder and said, "This matter is in the past. The South has indeed been unified by The Black-Clad Society, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. Tell the Brothers to retreat; I will return to the South sooner or later."
After settling things briefly, they planned to return to Jing City the next day. Shen Zhitao looked at the girl standing expressionlessly in the distance and nudged Wang Chao with his arm, asking, "Who is that girl? Don't tell me you can't resist even someone like her?" Upon hearing this, Wang Chao pouted and replied, "This Spatial Ring is a gift from her."
"What?" Shen Zhitao was astonished. She never expected that Wang Chao's earlier tales of his extraordinary journey were made possible with this girl's help.
Wang Chao nodded and sighed, saying, "Today, my intuition is particularly strong. Perhaps this Zombie crisis was orchestrated by her and the forces behind her. Don't be fooled by her being just a little girl; her strength is formidable. I doubt even Zhang Fusheng could match her. Even if I put forth all my strength, I wouldn't be able to compete with just one of her arms!"
Shen Zhitao frowned and asked with concern, "With such high strength, what is her purpose in staying by your side? Have you figured it out? She must have some significant reason for following you."
"I know!" Wang Chao shook his head helplessly. "But I want to understand what that purpose is. A ticking time bomb beside you is easier to manage than an unseen threat lurking in the shadows. After all, when it's close at hand, it's manageable; once it slips out of control, who knows what might happen? However, there's one thing about this girl that surprises me the most!"
"What is it?" Shen Zhitao asked.
"This girl has no emotions!" Wang Chao glanced at the girl in the distance and shook his head before continuing, "I feel like she isn't a real human being living in this world; she seems more like some advanced piece of intelligent technology. Yet she is undeniably alive! This matter might need Gao Rui's insight."
After hearing Wang Chao's words, Shen Zhitao was filled with confusion. However, Wang Chao was right; there are no free gifts in this world. Both Shen Zhitao and Wang Chao understood this well. Wang Chao did not believe he possessed any kingly aura that could compel those around him to treat him unconditionally well. Thus, he was already prepared for all the conspiracies behind this situation.
