Seeing the Elephant King lying on the ground, Wang Chao finally let out a sigh of relief. The Sniper Rifle in his hand had fallen to the ground, and the nail had pierced directly into his collarbone, rendering him completely immobile. The collarbone, also known as the clavicle, is extremely fragile; it was historically used as a method to restrain slaves or enemies to prevent their escape, hence its name. No matter how strong one is, they cannot exert any force when it is compromised.
Fortunately, there was no longer any danger, and with various security team members nearby, Wang Chao did not have to worry about his safety. He had genuinely feared the Elephant King earlier, but thankfully, the creature collapsed just half a step away from him. Otherwise, with his strength diminished, he would surely have been trampled into a pulp by the Elephant King. Several security team members rushed over to examine Wang Chao's wound.
"I can't exert any force!" Wang Chao exclaimed. "You guys need to help me pull this nail out!"
The others nodded and looked at the nail embedded deep in Wang Chao's bone. He could feel that after piercing through his collarbone, it extended downwards for at least half a meter into the ground beneath him. Two people held Wang Chao down while one attempted to pull out the nails. However, what surprised the team member was that even with all his strength, he could not remove the nail, demonstrating just how formidable the Elephant King's power truly was. Wang Chao grimaced in pain.
In the end, it took two security team members working together to finally extract the nail. At that moment, Wang Chao could finally exert some strength in his left shoulder. Just then, one person ran over holding a small bowl filled with a powdery substance. The security team member said, "Captain, this is something I ground from the Elephant King's Ivory. A portion is for external use and another for internal use; it has strong healing properties for bone regeneration! This is an old remedy I learned in the countryside!"
Wang Chao had heard that Ivory could be medicinal, so he did not hesitate much. Following the soldier's instructions, he applied some of the Ivory powder externally and took some internally as well. Despite having a large hole in his collarbone from where the nail had pierced through, he felt significant relief after applying the powder. Thinking of this, Wang Chao instructed the security team to collect all of the Ivory to take back.
Now that there was no threat, the security team members could focus on their tasks without worrying about other dangers. They busied themselves in the small village for several hours until they finally finished their work. After a simple meal, Wang Chao led everyone to catch up with the villagers who had gone ahead. There was nothing noteworthy about this journey; roughly a week later, all of these villagers were settled into various Safe Zones.
After this ordeal concluded, the villagers breathed a sigh of relief; they had finally reached safety. However, Wang Chao did not dare to relax just yet. In large Safe Zones now, any Zombie that appeared would be swiftly eliminated unless someone foolishly ventured into uncleared areas for a party with Zombies.
Zombies were relatively easy to deal with now; what terrified him were those mutated monsters affected by radiation. Each encounter with such creatures required significant time and energy from Wang Chao to handle them. Fortunately, these monsters were not produced in large numbers; however, even one was difficult enough to manage. If all units were as powerful and coordinated as Wang Chao's security team, it would be simpler. But even this elite unit could not be mass-produced. Over these past two years, Liu Jie had trained many King of Soldiers but they still could not compare to this Thunder Strike Team.
"This matter must be addressed immediately," Wang Chao stated in his office on the second floor of the capital city. "First, we need to build a high wall around the small town to prevent monsters from reappearing inside it. Second, we should install an Electric Fence outside that wall to keep it electrified at all times as an additional measure. Then we need to station a few hundred troops along Erlong Mountain Road behind the town to monitor any movements there and ensure communication so we can be informed immediately about any incidents! Lastly, we must connect and repair these two roads."
At this moment, Wang Chao spoke while surrounded by Shen Sisters, Wu Wan'er, Da Qiang, and several newly promoted officers whose names he did not know yet. Everyone nodded in agreement as Wang Chao continued: "This project will require substantial manpower and military protection; it's unlikely we can complete it quickly. With just over a month until New Year’s Eve, we aim to finish before then so we can celebrate our first Spring Festival since the Zombie crisis began!"
Everyone nodded in agreement before Shen Zhitao contacted Tang Feng from Ganzhou and Xiao Wei from Jing City. Zhuang Peng’s Seaside City was far away and remained quietly focused on its industry and salt production for now. Shen Zhitao along with Tang Feng and Xiao Wei began arranging specific details while Da Qiang and these new officers took charge of military arrangements. Although Wang Chao still resided in Jing City, he understood that the capital had been China’s capital for many years; its value far exceeded that of Jing City. Thus drawing a thousand troops from here would not significantly impact its overall strength.
Having arranged the general direction, the specific matters were truly left to the others. The next few weeks would involve the mobilization of troops, the transportation of labor, and the delivery of food—tasks that could not be completed in a short time. Fortunately, under such a system and circumstances, authoritarianism played a significant role. With Wang Chao's command, the operation had already begun. If this had been before the outbreak of the Zombie crisis, it would have been hard to believe that such coordination could be achieved in just a few weeks.
During this time, Wang Chao occasionally went to inspect the local area. The safety was quite good; however, winter had already arrived, and the first snow of the year had begun to fall. Snowflakes danced down from the sky, creating a beautifully serene world.
"It's snowing again!" Yang Mengying said as she nestled against Wang Chao's chest.
Wang Chao nodded, gently stroking Yang Mengying's small face. "Yes, it is snowing again. I remember two years ago when it snowed; we had to hide in that dilapidated Safe Zone, cold and hungry, surrounded by corpses and Zombies. But look at us now—just four years later, we have conquered the Zombies and overcome the harsh weather."
"That's right!" Yang Mengying smiled sweetly and added, "Hope is right in front of us!" As she gazed at Wang Chao's increasingly mature profile, she thought to herself: In just four short years, he had grown from a recent graduate with nothing into the united leader of all Safe Zones in the North, becoming an idol and hero to so many. I turned down so many good offers just to wait for you—a regular person with a girlfriend—and it seems I made the right choice!
