Coughing lightly, Wang Chao and Gao Rui exchanged awkward glances. Gao Rui said, "Damn, this is earlier than I expected. It seems your strength really is at the Diamond Upper Level. I remember when I saved you, you were still at the Golden Level, haha. Oh right, there was a monster I wanted to observe earlier. I won't chat with you guys for now; something feels off!"
With that, Gao Rui muttered to himself and wandered off to another part of the vast research facility. Before long, he completely disappeared from view. Wang Chao felt equally awkward and said, "Since you're awake, I'll go get Aikun'er to see you. She hasn't had a good sleep in ages!"
"Is that so?" Aivina stepped down from the operating table. Completely naked, she showed no concern for Wang Chao's gaze. Lowering her head to look at her body, she noticed that the large wound had been completely healed. She couldn't fathom how Wang Chao and Gao Rui had managed it; there wasn't a single scar on her body. She clenched her fist slightly, feeling that the power within her was even stronger than before.
At that moment, Wang Chao brought over a set of clothes and placed them on the operating table. "No need to hesitate; I can tell you that your strength is already at an extraordinary level. Here’s a set of clothes for you to try on. You can have a custom outfit made at the textile factory later since I don't know your measurements..."
Aivina nodded and without hesitation began changing in front of Wang Chao. He said, "I'll go find Aikun'er."
"There's no rush!" Aivina stopped him. Wang Chao shrugged and remained silent, standing beside her as she got dressed. Once she had put on the clothes, she spoke again, "It's better to clarify some things before you go."
Wang Chao curiously responded, "What things?"
"Why did you save me? If it were Aikun'er who got hurt, I could understand it, but why me?" Aivina asked as she sat back on the operating table, crossing her legs. "Do you have a cigarette?" Wang Chao smiled and pulled out a pack from his Spatial Ring, handing it to her. Aivina took one out, and he lit it for her.
After taking a puff of smoke, Aivina continued, "I told you back in the south that when we meet again, it would either be your death or my survival. On the way while being carried by members of the Black Clothes Society, I thought that if I made it to the north, I'd still end up dying by your hand in the end. But I just can't understand why you'd do this. As someone from the Ai Family—even Aikun'er knows what could happen—but I still let her come find you. Honestly, I never intended for you to save me; I just wanted Aikun'er to be safe if she reached you."
Aivina went on, "To be frank with you, if it were me in your position, I'd definitely kill you. On the surface, it might not show, but secretly I'd ensure your demise. As a member of the Seven Great Families, if one lacks even this awareness, how can they survive among them? Yet there are always some exceptional individuals within the Seven Great Families—like you, like Zhang Fusheng, and even Zhang Fusheng's father."
Wang Chao sat down beside Aivina. She turned to stare at him intently; she was eager to know what this young man was thinking. After a sigh, Wang Chao said, "Since you're so curious about it, I'll tell you honestly: I've mentioned before that you're a sensitive person. The only reason I saved you may sound absurd to you but it's true—I didn't want to do something I'd regret later."
"If someone thinks about regretting their actions while doing something," Wang Chao smiled as he continued, "then they will definitely regret it later! As for whether we will be adversaries or allies in the future—that's something for later; right now it's my turn to ask you some questions!"
After taking a puff of smoke without inhaling again—letting it burn down into ash without scattering—Aivina stared at Wang Chao for five minutes before finally asking, "Do you like me?"
Wang Chao burst into laughter at her question and replied playfully, "What do you think?"
"What’s the problem?" Aivina threw the cigarette butt directly onto the ground and then spoke to Wang Chao.
"What on earth happened in the South that could leave you so severely injured?" Wang Chao ran his fingers through his hair, glancing sideways at Aivina. "Your strength was already at the Diamond Upper Level, and the members of the Black Clothes Society were at the Platinum Level. What kind of person or creature could chase you all the way to the North?"
At Wang Chao's words, Aivina immediately recalled that day—the Safe Zones destroyed by monsters, countless people who lost their homes and loved ones because of these creatures. Aivina let out a faint sigh and then recounted to Wang Chao everything that had happened in the South. It took her a full hour to explain the entire situation clearly, and upon hearing it, Wang Chao fell into deep thought.
"So, that monster must be at an extraordinary upper level!" Wang Chao said to Aivina. "Otherwise, it wouldn’t be able to destroy so many Safe Zones by itself. Moreover, even when you teamed up with the Black Clothes Society members, you couldn’t harm it at all. From what you’ve said, it seems like it deliberately wants to destroy all the Safe Zones. Compared to those mindless monsters, it already possesses a certain level of intelligence!"
"Exactly, but I feel like it's searching for something!" Aivina replied. "Or perhaps someone—it seems to have a strong obsession. I think this matter is definitely not simple..."
Wang Chao nodded and then extended a hand, saying, "It looks like we need to cooperate for now. If we allow this monster to exist in this world, it will have a huge impact on humanity's future. As for our past grievances, let’s set them aside until we eliminate that monster. If you agree, let’s shake hands. To defeat an extraordinary upper-level monster, two extraordinary lower-level individuals and their teams must join forces!"
Aivina looked at Wang Chao and slowly extended her hand, grasping his firmly. Then she leaned against Wang Chao's chest, bringing her mouth close to his ear and whispering softly, "No matter what happens, thank you."
Her smile was as radiant as a blooming flower.
