The driver took turns behind the wheel while everyone else rested in the car. Over the course of two days, they bypassed the Central North Safe Zone and headed straight for the returning Ferry. Once on board, they noticed numerous boats drifting on the river, likely those used by refugees. It was unclear whether they had run out of fuel or if their occupants were too injured to navigate. Regardless, these boats floated aimlessly on the water. After searching several vessels, it became evident that nearly all the people inside were dead; even those who were still alive were on the brink of death. Ultimately, Wang Chao and his companions abandoned their rescue efforts, reasoning that if these individuals had survived, they wouldn't be adrift in the river. 0

Upon reaching the south, the Black-Clad Society and Wang Chao's guard team dispersed to search for any signs of monsters left behind. When Wang Chao first arrived in this southern region, the houses near the Ferry, though uninhabited, still resembled homes. Now, however, they had completely collapsed, leaving him puzzled about what had transpired. Had the refugees fought over food resources, or had they been destroyed by monsters? The truth remained elusive. 0

Strangely enough, while many corpses were discovered nearby, not a single living person was found. Inside a ruined house, Wang Chao observed numerous bodies. He crouched down to examine them closely and noticed that most showed signs of corrosion; their flesh had rotted away into a shapeless mass. Unknown liquids—red and yellow—clung to them, exuding an incredibly foul odor even in winter. 0

Many bodies had been sliced into pieces with remarkable sharpness. If it were Wang Chao, he could have easily healed from such wounds without any tools; the cross-sections appeared as smooth as mirrors. It was clear that this was the work of a monster. Wang Chao exchanged glances with Aivina, who remarked, "Indeed, this is its doing. It seems that after leaving Zhonghu Safety Zone, it has been pursuing us here. Judging by this direction, it must have headed that way!" 0

Wang Chao nodded and instructed his soldiers, "We need to head in that direction immediately. Keep an eye out for survivors along the way and tell them to come to the Ferry; someone will be there to pick them up!" With that, Wang Chao and Aivina took off running ahead. Along their path, they saw destroyed houses and corpses lining the road—evidence of the monster's rampage. The number of overturned bodies and ruined buildings increased as they progressed, indicating that the creature had relentlessly pursued many fleeing refugees. 0

The road was littered with severed limbs and dismembered bodies; intestines spilled onto the ground as blood stained the path red. Most of it had already congealed, while in some areas, piles of corpses resembled small hills—a true hell on earth. This scene revealed the monster's bloodthirsty nature; unlike other creatures Wang Chao had encountered before—like Elephant King or Python—which only consumed humans when hungry, this monster seemed to revel in killing for pleasure. It didn't eat flesh; it simply slaughtered people—a far more terrifying beast. 0

The two dared not linger and continued onward until they reached a mountain. The southern region was hilly; although not very high in elevation, it was filled with peaks. Upon reaching a mountain pass and looking down at the ground, they noticed even clearer traces of passage. Despite it being winter, vegetation at the foot of the mountain thrived well enough. However, upon closer inspection, they could see many shrubs trampled down—evidence of a large group having passed through here. This suggested that survivors might have already reached this mountain while being pursued by the monster. 0

As they ascended further up the mountain, corpses became even more frequent; almost every step revealed another body. This indicated they were getting closer to where the monster had been. However, at one point along their ascent, blood trails and bodies suddenly vanished entirely. Wang Chao crouched down to examine his surroundings but found no signs of human passage anymore. Aivina spoke up: "Could it be that all survivors were killed here?" 0

Wang Chao stood up and replied, "We can't confirm that just yet. What we do know is that this monster left here less than an hour ago. Look at these bodies; some haven't even fully stiffened yet. And see this blood? It's still liquid—not completely coagulated—which means this monster hasn't been gone long; it could still be nearby. We need to be cautious!" 0

Aivina nodded and drew her dagger from her waist while Wang Chao retrieved his Panlong Blade from his back. They moved forward slowly as Wang Chao whispered to Aivina: "Based on your descriptions, this monster's strength is certainly at an extraordinary level. Even if we join forces, we may not be able to handle it alone. If we encounter it, I'll distract it while you go for the kill—understand?" 0

"I understand!" Aivina replied as she prepared to move ahead again. However, Wang Chao remained rooted in place without following her. Noticing his hesitation, Aivina looked back at him curiously while he met her gaze for a long moment before saying: "I mean every word I'm saying seriously. My saving you isn't just so we can team up against this monster; you need to realize that if we're still harboring doubts about each other now, then eliminating this creature is nothing but a pipe dream!" 0

With that said, a faint smile appeared on Wang Chao's lips as he continued: "When we face it later on, I will do my utmost to hold it off and may end up exhausted afterward. If you still have any strength left then you should be able to finish me off without hesitation! So now I must ask you: Can I trust you?" 0

Aivina glanced at Wang Chao and then smiled back. She sighed and said, "I told you, some people from the Seven Great Families are different from the rest. Honestly, I want to experience that feeling too—the feeling of breaking the rules." Wang Chao, hearing this, was puzzled and looked at Aivina in confusion. 0

"But you still saved me, didn't you?" Aivina continued as she walked ahead. 0

Watching Aivina's retreating figure, Wang Chao suddenly understood what she meant. He chuckled and followed her forward. 0
