Wang Chao looked into the distance and spotted Wang Xiaochuan leaning against the wall, making his way toward him. Wang Xiaochuan was covered in scars, clearly inflicted by the sharp claws of some monstrous creature. Fortunately, the wounds were not deep and had not damaged any internal organs; otherwise, with so many injuries, it would be impossible for Wang Xiaochuan to still be alive and speaking.
"I’ve been searching for you in the south for a long time. I never expected to run into you here!" Although Wang Xiaochuan had only been with him for a short time, their bond was strong. Otherwise, Wang Chao would not have left everything behind in the north to come to this cave with Shen Zhitao. Seeing Wang Chao filled Wang Xiaochuan with excitement; he immediately saluted and said, "Captain, Thunder Strike Team member Wang Xiaochuan reporting back for duty!"
With that, Wang Xiaochuan stepped forward to introduce his sister. "Sister, this is my captain, Wang Chao. Captain, this is my sister, Wang Luochuan. She’s the one who took me away before, saying it was too dangerous for me to be alone in the north."
Wang Chao nodded. From Wang Luochuan's attire and her decisive actions earlier, he could tell she was capable of handling herself.
Wang Luochuan glanced at Wang Chao and said, "Now is not the time for reminiscing. Didn’t you see that monster before you came here? Aivina!" It dawned on Wang Chao that Wang Luochuan knew Aivina. Considering Aivina had unified the south, it made sense for her to know someone like Wang Luochuan.
Aivina leaned closer to Wang Chao and whispered, "She used to be the leader of Yangnan Safe Zone." Wang Chao nodded. He had previously thought that Wang Xiaochuan must have ended up in some small Safe Zone; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been unable to find him in any of the three major Safe Zones. He had even sent Aikun'er to search but never imagined that Yangnan Safe Zone was the only major Safe Zone he hadn’t visited—and that it was also where Wang Xiaochuan’s sister was.
While Wang Chao pondered this, Aivina spoke up again: "We followed the corpses and blood trails to find this place. There were no signs of that monster outside; it seems it has already left. How many survivors do you have here?"
"There are over two hundred survivors we brought out," Wang Luochuan replied. "This cave seems quite deep; we don’t know where it leads if we keep going further. It might not be a good idea to press on. If possible, we should take advantage of the monster's absence and move to a safer location!"
After listening to both of them, Wang Chao felt that continuing deeper into the cave wasn’t wise. He thought for a moment and said, "Shen Zhitao and Da Qiang are still waiting outside with their team. Since nothing has happened for so long, it means that monster hasn’t discovered you hiding in this cave. We need to leave immediately; otherwise, if that monster comes back while we’re trapped here, we won’t be able to escape!"
With that, Wang Luochuan led them around a corner where the main group was hiding. As they entered, light gradually illuminated the cave. Looking around, Wang Chao saw many people sitting against the walls—most were injured but thankfully only lightly so—about two hundred in total. Wang Luochuan was busy organizing their departure.
The group of two hundred began to move slowly toward the exit; many wore expressions of fear and numbness, some even reluctant to leave as they seemed terrified by the monster. However, as more people moved toward the exit, those hesitant began to follow suit as well. Wang Chao led Wang Xiaochuan outside first; Shen Zhitao and Da Qiang were still guarding their team members from Black Clothes Society.
"What’s the situation?" Wang Chao asked Shen Zhitao.
Shen Zhitao surveyed their surroundings before responding, "After you went inside, I sent two squads out to scout. Not far from here, we found traces of the monster leaving; it looks like it could return at any moment. By the way, did you discover anything inside?" Just as Shen Zhitao finished speaking, those from inside began to emerge as well; he glanced at them and quickly grasped the situation.
Wang Chao pondered for a moment before saying, "Alright, Shen Zhitao, you take these people to the Ferry. Since we have a general idea of where the monster is headed, they should be safe now. Remember, do not linger. Have Wang Xiaochuan lead the guard team and the Black-Clad Society to assist you!" Wang Chao intended for the members of the Black Clothes Society or the guards to provide suppressive fire for the group. Even if they couldn't kill the monster, it shouldn't be able to escape. However, he couldn't just leave the two hundred people unattended. After considering it, he decided it was best to ensure their protection as they made their way to the Ferry, leaving only two squads—twenty people—to provide fire support.
At this critical moment, Shen Zhitao understood that this was not a time for debate. He nodded and simply told Wang Chao to be careful before leading Wang Xiaochuan and the squads to escort the crowd down the mountain. Now, only Wang Chao, Aivina, Da Qiang, and Wang Luochuan remained—two extraordinary individuals and two diamond-level fighters, along with twenty squad members. If they couldn't defeat the monster with this group, adding over a hundred platinum-level fighters wouldn't make much difference.
"Captain, we've found traces of the monster's mucus on a distant peak!" a member of the Black Clothes Society reported to Wang Chao and Aivina. "The surrounding vegetation has been completely corroded by that substance; it's as if nothing can grow there anymore. The monster might be nearby. What should we do next?"
"What else can we do?" Wang Chao said as he touched the Panlong Blade on his back and looked at everyone. "We came back specifically to defeat this monster, but it's not going to be an easy task. You two teams—one is my guard team, and the other is from the Black Clothes Society—your loyalty goes without saying. We trust that in critical moments, you will be willing to risk your lives to protect us."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"However," Wang Chao continued seriously, "I must tell you something contrary: this monster has exceeded our ability to handle it. If anything happens..." He paused before adding, "Do your best to escape if you can."
