Wang Chao's words were sincere, as he truly had no confidence. Aivina's strength was on par with his own. If the members of the Black Clothes Society led by Aivina struggled to deal with this monster, it meant that the creature was exceptionally powerful. Wang Chao glanced helplessly at the figure of Xiaocao standing at the back. In truth, for Xiaocao, this monster would be an easy task, but frustratingly, she never intervened in such matters. It was as if she were a deity looking down from above, observing the happenings of the mortal world without ever getting involved.
Seeing Wang Chao looking at her, Xiaocao returned his gaze. They held eye contact for a long moment, but it was Wang Chao who eventually looked away. The only thing he could ask Xiaocao to do was to safely take him out of a dangerous area—nothing more. "Let's go!" Wang Chao said to everyone as a member of the Black Clothes Society led the way to where they had found traces of the monster.
They had not walked long—about twenty minutes—when Wang Chao and the others began to notice signs. Indeed, from this point onward, the surrounding vegetation was corroded by a strange liquid. Some of this liquid pooled in depressions in the ground. "That's right, it's this kind of liquid! That monster must have passed through here!" Aivina exclaimed. Just as her words fell, Wang Chao suddenly felt a surge of danger.
"Be careful!" he shouted, conjuring a shield to protect those behind him. At that moment, he felt something splatter onto his shield—a liquid ejected by the monster. Looking closer, he realized it was indeed the same liquid that the creature had sprayed out. Unfortunately, the member of the Black Clothes Society who had been leading them did not react as quickly as Wang Chao; he was drenched in the liquid and almost instantly became a charred corpse. In contrast, Wang Chao's shield remained intact. It seemed that while this liquid was corrosive, it hadn't reached its most potent level yet; if it had been the green Worm Mucus from before, his shield would not have held up.
The monster's most effective means of attack appeared to be its claws; it primarily relied on physical attacks.
"Aivina, follow me! Da Qiang and Wang Luochuan will flank from the sides. The rest stay behind us and be ready to provide cover fire!" Almost instantly, Wang Chao made arrangements. At that moment, everyone could see where the monster was located; its green-brown body blended seamlessly with the grass and trees on the hillside. They hadn’t noticed it upon arrival, but now it seemed that the creature was beginning to retreat down the hill.
Upon hearing Wang Chao's command, everyone acted swiftly; this was a matter of life and death. After spraying one round of Mucus, it would take some time for the monster to spray again. The best opportunity to deal with it was now. As they spoke, Wang Chao and Aivina charged forward while Da Qiang and Wang Luochuan flanked from either side. Their speed was noticeably slower than that of Wang Chao and Aivina; by the time they reached the monster’s front, Da Qiang and Wang Luochuan were still en route while two other squad members quickly occupied advantageous positions, ready to open fire and cover their escape.
"I'll go high; you go low!" At this moment, Wang Chao drew his Panlong Blade and aimed directly at the monster. Hearing his command, Aivina showed no hesitation as she pulled out her dagger and aimed for its leg—one aimed to test how tough its neck was while the other sought to incapacitate its movement. Both strikes targeted vital areas.
However, the monster's speed and reflexes were evidently superior to those of Wang Chao and Aivina. Wang Chao's Panlong Blade did not strike true at its neck but instead met with a Bone Knife wielded by the creature’s left hand, which completely blocked his attack. Wang Chao felt a sharp pain in his grip as if he had struck something incredibly hard; his Panlong Blade had clashed evenly with the monster's Bone Knife!
Aivina's attempt to strike at its knee also failed as the creature anticipated her move; it simply lifted one leg to evade her attack. Despite standing on only one leg, its stability remained unaffected—it seemed that even if it lost a limb, it could still stand firm.
At that moment, the monster retaliated with swift ferocity. Its clawed hand struck like scissors against Wang Chao's Panlong Blade and then slid up along the blade’s length as if trying to sever his arm entirely. Meanwhile, its other leg swung back sharply to avoid Aivina’s dagger before launching a powerful kick forward; its Bone Knife foot was much thicker than that on its hand—if struck by such force, it could easily split him in two.
Wang Chao and Aivina dared not engage with the monster any longer, quickly retreating to avoid its relentless attacks. At that moment, Da Qiang and Wang Luochuan, who had been following closely behind, finally caught up and began their assault from the side. Da Qiang wielded a massive, custom-made pair of lethal gauntlets, and with his strength, he could punch through steel plates several centimeters thick.
Wang Luochuan's weapon was far more enigmatic. Though her personality was quite masculine, she used silver needles as her weapon. In just a fleeting moment, hundreds of silver needles shot forth. The monster paid no attention to the needles unleashed by Wang Luochuan and instead turned to clash directly with Da Qiang.
The gauntlets, made from a special material, collided with the monster's fists. To Wang Chao's astonishment, the material cracked cleanly in half upon impact, while the monster's Bone Knife only sustained minor fissures. Wang Chao knew he wouldn't dare face Da Qiang head-on with such a weapon, yet the monster merely showed slight damage on its Bone Knives. This clearly demonstrated the creature's formidable strength.
Both the human and the monster were pushed back a few steps by the force of their collision!
