That night, the cold wind howled outside, while inside the tent, two people were filled with warmth and passion.
Early the next morning, the two emerged from the tent. Wang Chao and Shen Zhitao didn’t have much time to bask in their warmth; they had something important to do—find out what Zhang Fusheng was up to. They packed various items into the Spatial Ring, and their mount, Little Wolf, was already waiting patiently. As they mounted the wolf, Wang Chao said, "Let's take a look around first. If we don't find anything, we'll head further up!"
After wandering around the mountain for quite some time without spotting anything suspicious, just as Wang Chao was about to urge Little Wolf to climb higher, they heard what seemed to be a voice calling from the mountainside across from them. However, it was too far away to see clearly or determine whether it was a person or some animal howling. But Wang Chao knew that whatever it was, they had to investigate!
"Little Wolf!" Wang Chao called out. "Did you hear that? Let's go over there!"
Little Wolf's front paws dug into the ground, leaving long scratches on the rocks. It seemed that whatever was on the other side posed a significant pressure on Little Wolf. Animals possess a unique instinct for alertness; although humans have this ability too, it pales in comparison. For instance, if Little Wolf felt such pressure now, it was very likely that it was Zhang Fusheng!
A few seconds later, Little Wolf dashed off at incredible speed. To an ordinary person, it would appear as if two streaks of white and red were flashing past their eyes. Despite the long distance, Little Wolf reached the other side in just an hour. The closer they got, the clearer Wang Chao could see what it was.
It became evident that this creature was neither Zhang Fusheng nor a human; it stood upright like a person but was covered in fluffy fur, about four meters tall, entirely snow-white except for its black nose and claws. At that moment, it leaned against a large tree and twisted its body up and down as if scratching an itch while emitting comfortable sounds. Wang Chao stared in shock; this creature wasn’t a monster—it was a living Polar Bear!
A Polar Bear! This was even more astonishing than seeing Zhang Fusheng here. Why would a Polar Bear appear in Tibet? And on such a mountain! Little Wolf stopped ten meters away from the Polar Bear, baring its teeth with its front claws firmly gripping the ground, ready to attack at any moment and displaying strong hostility toward the bear.
At that moment, the Polar Bear also noticed them. It ceased its scratching and stood on all fours, matching Little Wolf's size. However, Wang Chao could clearly see that this Polar Bear had not been infected by the Zombie Virus. It made sense; there were hardly any humans around here to provide an opportunity for infection.
Wang Chao and Shen Zhitao jumped off Little Wolf and watched as this wolf and bear faced off against each other. For some reason—perhaps instinct—these two species seemed ready to fight to the death upon meeting. Sure enough, Little Wolf let out a furious howl and charged straight at the Polar Bear, swinging its claws to attack. The Polar Bear wasn’t one to back down either; it half-rose up on its hind legs and responded with its own claws. In no time at all, wolf and bear were locked in combat.
With both sides evenly matched, if this continued, they would surely end up injuring each other severely. Wang Chao rushed forward in a few quick strides; he grabbed Little Wolf with one hand while seizing the Polar Bear by its neck with the other. Then he exerted his strength—pushing Little Wolf down onto the ground while lifting the Polar Bear against a tree trunk!
Such explosive power! Both Little Wolf and the Polar Bear were at diamond level fighters; combined with their animal instincts, they were certainly above average in strength yet were easily subdued by Wang Chao alone. His strength truly should not be underestimated. Wang Chao said firmly, "Little Wolf, our purpose here isn’t this fight; let’s move on to higher ground!"
As Wang Chao released Little Wolf, the latter made no further movements. Just as Wang Chao was about to let go of Polar Bear, he suddenly felt an inexplicable force coming from behind him. Instinctively, Wang Chao dodged to the side and released Polar Bear, only to catch something with his hand. It was only then that he realized what it was—a cane.
Behind him stood an old man, hunched over with a completely bald head, his skin darkened by the sun. He was only about five feet tall, yet his cane towered at nearly six and a half feet, creating an oddly mismatched appearance. Remarkably, Wang Chao had not sensed his presence until now. At that moment, the old man gripped one end of the cane tightly and began to exert force against the end that Wang Chao held.
The old man was challenging him to a test of strength!
Realizing this, Wang Chao pushed back with equal force. The old man pressed down on him while Wang Chao pushed upward, attempting to lift the old man Ling Kong off the ground. A smile appeared on the old man's face as they engaged in this struggle. Gradually, Wang Chao sensed something unusual about the old man. Despite his continuous efforts, the old man's expression remained unchanged; the cane hovered in place as if whatever strength Wang Chao exerted was effortlessly matched by the old man.
Thinking quickly, Wang Chao summoned all his strength for a sudden upward thrust. The old man continued to smile, and to Wang Chao's astonishment, he watched as the cane slowly descended despite his best efforts to lift it. No matter how hard he tried, it seemed impossible to raise the cane. Three minutes later, Wang Chao could no longer hold on and released his grip on his now slightly swollen hands.
"You young people are getting stronger every day!" the old man said with a slight smile. "Only three people have been able to last this long."
Wang Chao felt increasingly intrigued by the old man's identity. When Polar Bear saw the elder, it obediently followed close by. As the old man turned to leave, Wang Chao called out, "Excuse me, elder! May I ask who you are?"
"Just a Broken Monk," the old man replied. "Follow me; I have something to discuss with you." With that, he began walking ahead.
Wang Chao exchanged glances with Shen Zhitao and nodded. Shen Zhitao and Little Wolf followed closely behind the monk. After a short while, they arrived at a dilapidated temple that appeared before them. Wang Chao's astonishment grew—how could there be such a temple here? Judging by its previous scale, it must have been immense. The world truly is wondrous; who exactly was this old monk?
A series of mysteries stirred within Wang Chao's mind as he followed the monk into the temple along with Shen Zhitao and Little Wolf.
