Wang Chao stepped through the void door, unaware of who was in the vast square. Given Xiaocao's strength, it was entirely possible for her to take on three or four opponents alone, a scenario Wang Chao dreaded. However, he felt powerless to stop her. This thought filled him with anxiety and pessimism.
From a distance, Wang Chao could see the situation in the square. There were six people present: Shen Zhitao, Tang Fengzhuang Peng, and Da Qiang, facing off against Xiaocao and the old man who had mutated at some point. It appeared that everyone had sustained injuries, but Xiaocao was the worst off; one of her arms was completely broken while the other bore a significant wound. Despite this, she continued to fight back against Zhuang Peng and Da Qiang's relentless assault.
On the other side, the old man, who had taken some unknown pills, had joined the fray with surprising strength, a stark contrast to his previous lethargy. Zhuang Peng stood back, constantly retrieving arrows from his pack, looking for opportunities to shoot at either Xiaocao or the now-mad old man.
Seeing Xiaocao in such a state made Wang Chao's heart ache. He vividly remembered yesterday morning when Xiaocao sat beside him, gazing at the sky and speaking about clouds. Wang Chao had promised her that he would never let her fall into ruin, even if she was just a little grass obeying orders without emotions.
"Whoever controls you, I will kill," Wang Chao thought simply.
"Don't kill Xiaocao," Wang Chao's weak voice rang out. "Kill that old man!"
His voice was hoarse and faint, yet everyone present heard him. They turned in shock to look at Wang Chao. At that moment, the old man also noticed him and his eyes lit up with madness and excitement. "You’re still alive! You’re still alive! But this process is irreversible; the outcome is irreversible. The flower cannot awaken again! Why are you still alive? Why are you still alive? Kill! Kill! Kill!"
The old man shouted "kill" three times in succession, and Wang Chao watched as the old man's power surged dramatically. The colors in his eyes shifted continuously as his strength reached an extraordinary level while everyone else remained at diamond level. It was clear that this old man was indeed the creator of this Zombie crisis; enhancing his power was surprisingly easy.
Xiaocao also saw Wang Chao and instinctively hesitated, seemingly not wanting him to witness her current state. Everyone paused as they watched Wang Chao slowly walk into the center of the square. Anger aside, sorrow aside, he fixed his gaze on the old man who was still increasing in power and said slowly:
"I will definitely kill you. The ones I want to kill are still alive."
"This statement," the old man trembled all over before replying, "I return it to you."
With that, the old man charged forward first. Though his movements were still chaotic, he moved with incredible speed. Wang Chao could tell that this was due to the old man's complete lack of combat experience. Despite having reached an extraordinary level of power, he might not be able to defeat Wang Chao, who possessed extensive practical experience in battle. As ancient wisdom states: brute force can overcome ten skills; however, there’s also a saying: skill can break a thousand pounds! Wang Chao couldn't defeat Xiaocao because of her strong combat experience, but against this old man, he was confident he could fight back!
The old man's fist had already been thrown, its power immense. However, Wang Chao realized that his strength could not compare to that of the elder. But Wang Chao was no fool who would just meet force with force; he merely sidestepped slightly, evading the old man's punch. Then, like a long snake, his arm coiled around the elder's wrist, and with a gentle pull outward, the old man was drawn toward Wang Chao. At that moment, Wang Chao's knee came up and struck directly against the elder's chest, producing a crisp sound of bones shattering. The old man's ribcage was crushed by Wang Chao's knee!
Seeing this, the old man gritted his teeth against the pain in his chest and aimed to kill Wang Chao. He firmly grasped Wang Chao with the hand that had been pulled away and summoned a Bone Knife. Indeed, since the old man was the mastermind behind this Zombie crisis, he possessed all the mutated skills. At that moment, a Bone Arrow shot past Wang Chao's ear.
The powerful gust of wind even sliced through Wang Chao's ear; its target was the old man's head! The elder recognized the arrow's might and summoned a Golden Armor that appeared around him. He released his grip on Wang Chao and crossed his arms in front of him to form an "X" gesture, managing to block the incoming arrow at the last moment. The arrow only left a dent on his wrist without causing any real harm.
However, the strong inertia still forced the old man to stagger back several steps. He shook his hands and touched his chest before saying, "I've never tried these things on myself before; I'm still a bit unskilled. But I will kill you all! Kill you!" The old man wore a mysterious smile that exuded coldness, somewhat neurotic.
Wang Chao felt an overwhelming urge to sleep; it seemed as if he had exhausted all his strength and was on the verge of collapsing. Yet he reminded himself that a man must not fall when he has not protected those he wishes to safeguard. A true man cannot allow his enemies to act arrogantly before him.
The old man charged again, now at a king-level strength. His speed was astonishingly fast. After five years of various adventures, Wang Chao had only reached an extraordinary mid-level strength, while in just a few minutes, this old man had transformed from an ordinary person without any mutated abilities into one of the most powerful mutants in existence.
"Let's go together!" Shen Zhitao shouted upon witnessing the elder's formidable change in strength.
"Tang Feng, leave this girl to me! She has one arm broken and is injured! I can hold him off while you all work together to deal with that old man!" Da Qiang also called out at that moment.
The three of them charged forward simultaneously.
