Little Grudge steadied himself, taking deep breaths as if he had just emerged from hundreds of meters beneath the sea, greedily inhaling the oxygen. Wang Chao glanced over and noticed that the Zombies had lost their direction. Although they still gathered in a mass, it was clear they had no target and were aimlessly flowing towards the Safe Zone, significantly easing the pressure around it.
“There’s definitely someone controlling the Zombies!” Little Grudge said, still panting. “Just now, I was struggling for control with that guy. It felt like a mental tug-of-war, like two personalities of a split personality disorder fighting for dominance. It was exhausting and drained my Mental Power. However, that person seems to have just begun cultivating their Mental Power; their strength is clearly inferior to mine. I suspect they’ve already coughed up blood and died by now.”
“Can you confirm if it’s human or Zombie?” Wang Chao asked.
Little Grudge replied decisively, “Human, it has to be human. If it were a situation like mine, I would sense the difference; it’s not an intelligent Zombie…”
If that’s the case, Wang Chao thought, it must be Zhang Fusheng and that mysterious team at work. He just didn’t know if Zhang Fusheng was nearby Jing City. If Zhang Fusheng was close enough, could the people here really have the ability to not only avoid killing him but also control him? Wang Chao wasn’t sure, but he knew that to stop Zhang Fusheng, they first needed to stop these Zombies and whoever was controlling them. If Wang Chao's guess was correct, those controlling the Zombies were likely part of that mysterious team.
As they spoke, gunfire continued unabated. Suddenly, the Zombies began to gather again—ordinary Zombies in front, Giant Zombies behind them, while special Zombies hid behind the Giant Zombies to avoid incoming shells and bullets. This indicated that someone else was controlling these Zombies again. Had the person on the opposite side recovered so quickly and regained control over them?
“Impossible!” Little Grudge exclaimed. “That person must be dead. I’m different from others; I can sense the distinct Mental Power emanating from them. It’s like how every human has a unique scent; each person’s Mental Power is different as well. Though it’s hard to explain, that person is definitely dead.”
Wang Chao nodded. Since that was the case, it meant there was another person capable of controlling these Zombies—perhaps even a third or fourth one. If this were true, then although Little Grudge's Mental Power was strong, he couldn’t withstand continuous struggles for control over the Zombies from multiple opponents. Wang Chao rubbed his temples and said, “Is there any way to locate these people who can control the Zombies?”
“Yes!” Little Grudge nodded and replied. “If they are still controlling the Zombies, I can determine their location with very little Mental Power. However, it’s likely that these individuals are mixed in with the Zombie horde, just like I did before. Even if we find them, it would be difficult to kill them since they are protected by so many Zombies around them. Moreover, if we get too far away, I might not be able to sense their Mental Power.”
“In that case…” At this moment, Wang Chao retrieved his Panlong Blade from his Spatial Ring. The blade now had only a small portion of its hilt stained blood-red; the rest had turned a deep blackish-gold color. Wang Chao understood that this change in color was due to how much blood had been absorbed at the dragon eye; the more blood it absorbed, the darker it became. Although he didn’t know what would happen if the Panlong Blade turned completely black, he knew that when that time came and he struck with it, it would surely be earth-shattering.
With the Panlong Blade in hand, Little Wolf stood up as well. Wang Chao sat atop him and gestured for Little Grudge to join him on Little Wolf's back. Looking down at the densely packed Zombies below, Wang Chao addressed Liu Jie beside him: “You all suppress fire; don’t worry about bullets or shells hitting me, understood?”
Liu Jie exchanged glances with Little Grudge and both understood Wang Chao’s intent—he aimed to charge into the thick mass of Zombies with Little Grudge in hopes of locating those controlling them. Liu Jie nodded and said, “Understood, Captain! We’ll provide suppressive fire; just be careful!”
At that moment, Little Grudge was sitting in front of Wang Chao. She turned to him and said, "But we can't determine how many Mind Controllers there are. If there are two or more controllers, when we get close to one person, they might immediately give up control and let another person take over. In that case, we would be led on a wild goose chase. How can we find those controlling the Zombies?"
"You don't need to pinpoint the exact person," Wang Chao replied, cracking his knuckles to produce a crisp sound. "You just need to identify an area. At that point, I will eliminate all the Zombies in that vicinity! Even if that person is hiding deep, they won't have a chance to escape!" As he spoke, Wang Chao patted Little Wolf, who let out a series of howls before jumping straight down from the top of the ten-meter-high wall.
"And what about your injury?" Little Grudge asked as she turned back while still in mid-air.
Wang Chao shook his head. Ever since he comprehended the true operation of the Breathing Technique and achieved unity with nature, he had been practicing it constantly. The cells that had been lost were rapidly regenerating within him. Although he hadn't fully recovered yet, he was more than capable of dealing with these Zombies. He patted Little Grudge on the shoulder and said, "It's fine; these Zombies don't pose a threat to me. Our current mission is to disperse these gathered Zombies and protect the residents in the Safe Zone!"
By the time he finished speaking, Little Wolf had already leaped down from the heights. Instead of landing on the ground, Little Wolf directly stepped onto the heads and shoulders of numerous Zombies, using its limbs to bounce and run across them. By the time those Zombies reacted, Little Wolf had already dashed far away.
"Little Grudge, it's up to you now. Just sense an area and point it out!" Wang Chao instructed.
"Understood!" With that, Little Grudge closed her eyes and began to focus her senses.
