Upon hearing the person's clean and decisive response, Wang Chao felt an odd sensation that he couldn't quite put his finger on. This individual was at the Diamond Mid-Tier level, clearly a member of the mysterious unit awakened by Zhang Fusheng in the snow-capped mountains. Indeed, this team's strength had surpassed the diamond level. If it were someone else, even experts like Shen Zhitao or Liu Jie would likely only be able to reach a stalemate against him.

"Forty-two!" Wang Chao repeated the number and thought for a moment. If there were only forty-two members, that made things easier. With a thousand people, they should at least have a one-tenth chance of success. If they had that much, they could stand a chance against these forty-two individuals. With this thought, Wang Chao finally managed to calm his emotions temporarily and felt more confident about dealing with Zhang Fusheng; at least it wouldn't be as stressful as before.
Wang Chao continued to inquire, "What exactly is your mission?"
At that moment, the man fell silent, seemingly unwilling to divulge any more information. Wang Chao's Bone Knife slowly pierced into the man's skin, having already opened a cut on his neck that was steadily bleeding. The man struggled but was held firmly by Wang Chao's grip, leaving him no opportunity to counterattack. Only then did he say, "My mission is to eliminate anyone who appears to be a threat."
Wang Chao paused and muttered, "Is that really the reason?"
Suddenly, it seemed he realized something important. The Panlong Blade swiftly sliced through the sniper's neck, and his head fell away. Wang Chao tossed the body to the ground and turned to jump off the building. Ever since he arrived at this building, everything had felt off. At that moment when the sniper uttered his last words, Wang Chao finally understood what was wrong.
First, as a member of Old Master Zhang's unit, this person's loyalty was clearly too low. Wang Chao had barely done anything when this individual revealed a wealth of information—this was extremely inconsistent with how the Zhang Family evaluated people. Previously, Yuan Min had been a lord of a Safe Zone and had unconditionally assisted Wang Chao simply because he possessed a Zhang Family ring. And Yuan Min wasn't even an elite; thus, one would expect an elite from the Zhang Family to place even greater emphasis on loyalty. This was the first unreasonable aspect.
Secondly, the mission described by this person was highly unreasonable. What did it mean to kill those who posed a threat? A mission without clear objectives is difficult to accomplish; therefore, it could be concluded that this person was lying. However, Wang Chao found much of what he said earlier to be credible. This indicated that the individual possessed high counter-surveillance and interrogation resistance skills. Upon reflection, it became clear that what this person said contained little genuinely useful information.
The third point is that since this person has set up so many Zombies around, it indicates that he is almost aware of Wang Chao's arrival and has already made preparations. This is why Wang Chao feels as if the other party is trying to lure him into a trap or a conspiracy. If he cannot quickly make it upstairs, he might currently be blocked by these Zombies on the floor.
From the three points mentioned, it seems this is a conspiracy, but it is not as simple as wanting to kill him. The Zombies set up, along with the lengthy and insubstantial dialogue, suggest that if it weren't for the last sentence revealing the truth, Wang Chao would still be entangled with this person. This indicates that everything is meant to draw him out and delay his time.
What a clever tactic to draw the tiger away from its mountain lair, but what is their true purpose?
As Wang Chao pondered in his mind, he quickly ran toward the Safe Zone, leaping over the high wall. He then called out to the soldiers stationed on the wall, "Is there anything useful?"
"Yes!" several soldiers replied almost emphatically. One of them quickly added, "Captain, shortly after you left, a large number of Zombies suddenly surged from the side, but their target was not the Safe Zone; they headed straight into the wild grass. Since they weren't heading for the Safe Zone, we didn't open fire for fear of attracting more Zombies or monsters." As he spoke, the soldier pointed in a direction.
Wang Chao looked in the direction indicated by the soldier but saw nothing—just darkness. It seemed that the Zombie Tide had already passed. The soldiers did not understand what was happening, but Wang Chao knew that someone must have infiltrated the Safe Zone. The previous sniper had sacrificed himself to draw Wang Chao's attention, and now this wave of Zombies was meant to distract the soldiers on the wall.
The real hidden move must have been deployed without anyone noticing. Wang Chao glanced at Little Wolf, who was still sound asleep. Logically speaking, given Little Wolf's sensitivity, almost no one could sneak in beside him. This meant that this person's strength must be above Little Wolf's level, indicating that this individual was at least at an extraordinary mid-tier level.
Could it be Zhang Fusheng? The thought suddenly crossed Wang Chao's mind. But if it were Zhang Fusheng, there would be no need to sacrifice a life to infiltrate the Safe Zone; after all, even he couldn't stop Zhang Fusheng. If it wasn't Zhang Fusheng, then who could it be?
