"The eastern front has been breached!" A soldier was using his body to block the incoming Zombies. At this moment, with the assistance of many Avengers Alliance members, only a few locations, including Big Strong Tang Feng and Liu Jie, could still hold their ground. Everywhere else was on the brink of collapse. Especially after the tanks had turned into scrap metal, without the suppression of powerful weapons, the Zombies had overwhelmed them. From time to time, Zombie Dogs would leap onto the tanks, diving down from above and then pouncing on the soldiers, tearing them apart. 0

"Tank Three can't hold anymore!" another soldier shouted. More voices joined in: "Tank Four is also under siege! Yuchuan, hold your ground!" "West is being swarmed by dozens of Zombie Dogs! Open fire and hold them back!" Various cries echoed around them; it was every man for himself now. Even Liu Jie and his companions were stretched thin, as their own positions were about to be overrun by Zombies, let alone anyone else. 0

Tang Feng was drenched in blood, making it nearly impossible to find a clean spot on his body. The steel spikes on Da Qiang's specialized gauntlets had broken off numerous times; he had no idea how many Zombies he had killed with his fists. Despite the fierce resistance from these iron-blooded warriors, it was futile. The sheer number of Zombies was overwhelming, and with dozens of powerful Avengers Alliance members involved, they were simply outmatched in both strength and numbers. 0

Holding out for an hour was already an impressive feat! The military camp was lost; this was their last line of defense. Beyond this point lay residential areas. The residents closest to the front lines had already evacuated, but how far could they have gotten? With a population of over a million, even a full day might not be enough to evacuate everyone. And now, only an hour had passed! 0

The surroundings were completely covered by Zombies, with small circles formed around trapped soldiers. This scene struck Liu Jie hard; it assaulted his senses. Suddenly everything felt like it slowed down as if something was stretching and widening his perception. At that moment, he recalled his first day in the army and the oath he had taken. 0

Only then did all sensations return to him—gunfire, the roars of Zombies, the sound of people collapsing around him, and his own mechanical movements told him that now was not the time to stop. The defense line had clearly been breached; soldiers understood the dire situation. Many were wavering; while they weren't afraid of death, they didn't want to die in vain either. In this situation, what difference did it make to continue holding their ground? 0

With retreating forces, the Zombie Tide surged forward like a tidal wave. In just a few minutes, they had advanced a kilometer; the residential area was now within sight. At this moment, many residents were still visible in the distance—mostly women, elderly people, and children—along with some factory workers hastily evacuating. The Zombie Tide was closing in nearby; at their current speed, it wouldn't take long before they reached those fleeing. 0

The retreating people also spotted the approaching Zombie Tide; a kilometer wasn't far at all—close enough for a Zombie Dog to reach them in mere seconds. 0

Xiao Wei saw the Zombie Tide rushing towards them and quickly shouted: "Team One and Team Three, push forward three hundred meters! We must hold this position! The rest of you men carry the elderly on your backs and women hold onto children! Quickly head up into the mountains! Leave everything behind; nothing is more important than lives! We can recover lost homes and food later—hurry!" 0

Hearing Xiao Wei's words made everyone realize the urgency of their situation. Men immediately picked up nearby elderly individuals while women grabbed their children and ran away as fast as they could. They were racing against death itself; even a moment's delay could mean being caught by the Zombies. Hundreds of Zombie Dogs were already charging toward them; to them, these fleeing humans looked like delicious canned food rolling on the ground. 0

"Hold them back! Open fire!" Teams One and Three were seasoned soldiers even before this Zombie crisis erupted; they were among the most experienced in their ranks. Facing these Zombie Dogs, they formed two lines: when one line fired their weapons, the other waited until it was time to reload before taking their turn to shoot. This way, they staggered their reload times to maintain continuous fire against the Zombies. 0

But even so, how long could they hold out? The Zombie Dogs led the charge while behind them surged the relentless Zombie Tide. In what felt like an instant, they were only hundreds of meters away from merging with those fleeing individuals. Defeat seemed inevitable; despair filled everyone's hearts—Jing City was truly doomed this time. Yet at that moment, Liu Jie fought his way through the Zombie Tide and leaped onto a tank. 0

Liu Jie shouted, "Hold your ground! Don't forget what you said when you begged me to join the army. I understand, we all understand that Jing City has been breached and will eventually fall, turning into a paradise for Zombies. But I refuse to just hand over my home!" 0

His voice was nearly a roar, veins bulging, face flushed with anger, yet his words carried far amidst the chaotic cries, reaching everyone clearly. 0

"When you joined the army, it was for honor, for pride. But I warned you then: once you become a soldier, you need to be ready. You need to keep your heads on your belts! Look at those elderly and children retreating. If you back down now, who will protect them? Who will stop the Zombies? You are the last line of defense; you are Jing City's final hope!" 0

"If you're not cowards, then follow me!" With that, Liu Jie jumped off the Tank and plunged into the horde of Zombies, firing his gun and swinging his knife. His actions stood in stark contrast to those retreating; Liu Jie was truly putting his life on the line. 0
