Zhang Fusheng's strike was overwhelmingly powerful, so much so that even with all his strength, Wang Chao could not withstand it. Lying on the ground, Wang Chao was still breathing slowly, but it was clear to anyone, even without medical knowledge, that he was nearing the end of his life. The surrounding area was silent; the earlier clash between Tai Chi and the Black Dragon had left a palpable sense of impending death that caused the nearby residents to halt in their tracks.
The fierce battle between the two, which they could hardly comprehend, lasted only a few seconds in reality, yet it felt like several minutes had passed. The overwhelming techniques had distorted space and time, leaving the onlookers bewildered about what had transpired. All they could see was Wang Chao being thrown through the air, his chest shattered and bearing fatal wounds.
At that moment, despite his severe injuries, Wang Chao suddenly opened his eyes wide, as if experiencing a moment of clarity before death. He felt an intense headache and found himself unable to muster any strength; even his fingers seemed unresponsive. Gritting his teeth, he managed to say, "Run... he... has lost control." Each word was slurred and accompanied by torrents of blood spilling from his mouth and chest. Before he could finish his last word, he fell unconscious again. In that fleeting moment, all Wang Chao could think was that no one could stop Zhang Fusheng.
Indeed, there was no need for Wang Chao's warning; the crowd had already witnessed Zhang Fusheng's eyes turn red as he began to slaughter those around him mercilessly. In a short span of time, hundreds had already fallen to his hands. Counting earlier casualties, nearly a thousand lives had been lost—elderly people, children, women, and the sick—all perished at Zhang Fusheng's hands. It became evident to everyone that if even someone of Wang Chao's extraordinary caliber could not defeat Zhang Fusheng, how could they possibly escape?
Despair gripped their hearts. Having just escaped the Zombie Tide at the cost of countless lives, they were met with this grim outcome. No one cried out; no one spoke. Even those who were killed could not scream because Zhang Fusheng's speed was simply too fast! An elderly man beside Wang Chao collapsed to the ground and took Wang Chao's hand in his own, softly saying, "My child, you have suffered."
As he spoke, tears streamed down his weathered face. His simple words seemed to carry immense weight as others silently joined him in weeping. They thought they would never shed tears again in this lifetime; their tears had long since dried up. The old man held onto Wang Chao's hand tightly while murmuring in a dialect that sounded almost like a song—beautiful and haunting.
This stood in stark contrast to the distant sounds of Zhang Fusheng's rampage—a clash of calm and chaos, humanity and savagery emerging at this moment.
Suddenly, from afar came a flash of red and white racing towards them at incredible speed. If Wang Chao had been conscious at that moment, he would have recognized it as Little Wolf rushing toward him. Little Wolf shared a unique bond with Wang Chao; from the very first moment she opened her eyes, she saw him and felt a special connection with him.
At this moment of crisis for Wang Chao, Little Wolf sensed his weakening presence amidst her fight against the Zombies. Realizing he was in danger, she disregarded everything else; her only thought was to save her master. Without hesitation, she dashed back toward him, catching Shen Zhitao and others' attention. However, Little Wolf was far too swift for them to react in time.
In mere seconds, Little Wolf reached the crowd. Ignoring everyone else around her, she soared over their heads and landed beside Wang Chao. Seeing him in such a state brought tears to her eyes as she licked his face desperately with her tongue. Just then, a powerful gust of wind announced Shen Zhitao's arrival in her aircraft!
The invisible plane hovered above them as if someone had leaped straight out of thin air.
"He's still alive; we just need to get him out!" Gao Rui declared after glancing at Wang Chao's condition.
At that moment, Zhang Fusheng had already seen the situation here and charged directly forward, intent on slaughtering everyone in sight with incredible speed. Meanwhile, Shen Zhitao found himself in a difficult position; Da Qiang and Tang Feng had already exhausted themselves and fainted on the plane, Liu Jie and Ouyang En had perished in battle, and although Zhuang Peng still had some fighting spirit left, he was no match for Zhang Fusheng. The rest had been dispatched to other parts of Huaxia, and with so many residents around, how could they possibly save only Wang Chao? Was there still hope for everyone?
Thinking of this, Shen Zhitao felt truly torn, unable to give an order.
"Commander Shen, if we delay any longer, Wang Chao will die!" Gao Rui was continuously bandaging and cleaning Wang Chao's wounds while Zhuang Peng silently stood guard nearby. Just then, the elderly woman who had been holding Wang Chao's hand stood up shakily. Speaking in somewhat broken Mandarin, she said, "Child, take Wang Chao away. Although I am old, having lived this long has taught me the importance of priorities. As an old woman, how much longer can I live? Without Wang Chao, we would have all perished long ago."
"He has protected us for five years; now it is my turn to protect him. If you are willing, follow me!" With that, the old woman began to walk unsteadily into the distance. At this moment, Zhang Fusheng was almost upon them. The women, children, and sick people stopped crying and began to surge toward Zhang Fusheng's direction. People are destined to die; they wanted to demonstrate their worth in their final moments.
"Get on the plane!" Shen Zhitao shouted without hesitation. "Salute!"
Everyone on the plane helped Zhuang Peng and Gao Rui support Wang Chao as they saluted for those who were bravely facing death, for those who stood firm in righteousness. What is a hero? Everyone is a hero. Zhang Fusheng was now very close to the plane, but those indomitable Huaxia people surged toward him to protect Wang Chao as if they were mindless zombies drawn to the living. Yet unlike zombies, these people willingly sacrificed themselves, which was even more moving.
At that moment, Zhang Fusheng suddenly charged forward as those around him continued to fall one by one.
