Although he was looked down upon and mocked by that S-5, and found himself in a huge pit of debt amounting to millions, Lin Yuan did not succumb to despair or collapse.
From the beginning, he was never truly a Second-Class Citizen of Mechanical City, so he did not see any downside to the debts. After all, he had nothing to begin with—not even a formal identity. Now that he had managed to acquire some form of identity, he considered it a gain.
With this mindset, Lin Yuan chose to ignore the unfortunate soul who had been exiled. Even without the assistance of the Intellect, he could still live comfortably. He was already planning to move his entire Fortress Base here; aside from everything else, the security measures here were quite good.
The immediate priority was to understand the nature and purpose of this Sub-base, as well as why it had gone bankrupt. As the saying goes, knowing oneself and one’s enemy ensures victory in every battle. Complaining would not solve any problems, and Lin Yuan was well aware of this.
As the Executive of this S-5 base, Lin Yuan now had a new option within his Intellect. With just a thought, this option would present itself in various ways—through large screen projections, three-dimensional miniature models, or deep interactive methods with the Intellect.
Lin Yuan chose the third option. All management tasks could be completed directly within the Intellect, allowing him to clearly see everything about the Sub-base. As indicated by the Exiles S-5, the content within this option was incredibly complex.
In general terms, there were eight sub-systems. The first was the Defense Attack System of the Sub-base. This system was powerful; according to Sub-base standards, it possessed comprehensive strike capabilities including ground-to-ground, ground-to-air, and air-to-air attacks. It also featured super long-range attack weapons capable of covering the entire Solar System. In this Sub-base, as long as Lin Yuan wished, he could easily lock onto a Martian and accurately strike them into dust.
Unfortunately, due to years of losses leading to bankruptcy and the turmoil caused by several previous Executives, almost all of these powerful weapon systems had been dismantled and sold off to pay debts. The only remaining defensive weapon was the Laser Cube at the entrance of the base, which contained nine hundred ninety-nine massive laser emitters capable of instantly tearing apart any hostile entity within five hundred meters of the base.
In other words, if an enemy stood more than five hundred meters away, they would be safe.
The situation was indeed dire!
Following the Weapon Defense System, the second important system was the Energy System—the Energy Source Tower at the lowest level of the Sub-base. This entity was remarkable; it possessed life and could survive indefinitely as long as it had energy. It was the core of the Sub-base; everything within operated thanks to this Energy Source Tower.
However, this Energy Source Tower also required energy itself. The difference was that it needed a very special type of energy—Life Energy—that could only be obtained from Mechanical City. It was expensive; each gram of Life Energy allowed this Energy Source Tower to function for one Mechanical Year. Yet acquiring just one gram required ten thousand Mechanical Coins.
In other words, as a Sub-base, it must produce at least ten thousand Mechanical Coins each Mechanical Year to maintain normal operations. If the output falls below this amount, it signifies that bankruptcy is not far off.
Conversely, if a Sub-base produces more than ten thousand Mechanical Coins annually, it will thrive and gradually develop, even grow, because Sub-bases also have levels, ranging from F-Level to A-Level, totaling six levels. Each level up requires an overwhelming amount of energy and various resources that are beyond counting.
The output of a Sub-base mainly comes from resource collection on the Colonized Planet it resides in. For instance, Lin Yuan once obtained e1 level Anzelra Honey and d1 level Mechanical Black Ant Glue—resources needed by Mechanical City. As long as he can sell them, he can purchase corresponding items or Life Energy from Mechanical City!
Overall, it's akin to living life; those who manage well will enjoy a fulfilling existence, while those who do not or are simply unlucky will face sorrow.
Upon realizing this, Lin Yuan felt a surge of excitement. If viewed this way, his Sub-base seemed not to be beyond saving!
The third System of the Sub-base is the Logistics Information Transmission System. In other words, this is a System for communication with Mechanical City. However, this System is powered by the Sub-base itself and does not consume any energy or require management from the Sub-base. It will exist indefinitely unless the entire Sub-base is destroyed.
Through this System, Lin Yuan discovered that he could easily sell various resources he collected or purchase any items within his purchasing rights from Mechanical City. The transactions are convenient and quick, completed in just a second—provided he has enough Mechanical Coins.
Additionally, Lin Yuan can check his current account status through this System, including updates on various news from Mechanical City, Mercenary Bounties, changes in resource prices, and more.
The fourth System of the Sub-base aligns perfectly with Lin Yuan's temperament; it is an Assembly and Repair Medical System. In this System, any damage can be quickly repaired successfully. If it involves Carbon-Based Life forms, they can also be healed rapidly—overall, it's quite impressive.
However, much like the Weapon Defense System, this repair and assembly medical System was dismantled and sold off by Lin Yuan's predecessor; now it stands as an empty shell.
Fortunately, Lin Yuan isn't too concerned. As an Apprentice Mechanic himself, as long as he transports his tools and collected materials over, he will be fine. He believes in working with his hands to ensure he has enough!
The fifth System of the Sub-base is the Resource Collection and Processing System. This System is also quite bare-bones but serves to decompose complex materials. For example, if Lin Yuan hunts a Razor Beetle, with this System in place, he won't have to laboriously extract the Biological Alloy; he can simply wait for the results, saving him a significant amount of time and effort.
However, now Lin Yuan was starting from scratch, with nothing to his name, so he had no high expectations.
The sixth system of the Sub-base was the Entertainment System. For Lin Yuan, he could also ignore this, as the saying goes, "How can one settle down when the Huns have not been defeated?"
The seventh system of the Sub-base was the Training System, which included Ranged Attack Training, Melee Weapon Training, Mixed Training, Combat Training, and so on. However, it was equally irrelevant to Lin Yuan.
The eighth system of the Sub-base was the Surveillance System, which was connected to the Weapon System. This system could detect a mouse in heat on Mars—if there were indeed mice on Mars.
This spying system was millions of times more powerful than Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar. Unfortunately, this system had also been completely dismantled.
