It turned out that the sword Lin Yuan had thrust into himself was completely unnecessary. The reinforcements sent by g-715 Sub-base completely ignored him and swiftly penetrated the Underground Mine. In less than five minutes, everything was already settled.
Lin Yuan had no idea about the fate of the Cat's Eye Team, nor did he know if that mysterious other Powerful Mercenary Group had escaped. All he saw was the Troll Squad, battered and bruised, being dragged out like obedient rabbits. Fortunately, they were quite lucky; no one had died. Of course, they couldn't escape punishment. Shield Warrior Bison was in a complete state of unconsciousness, and that flashy Heavy Shield was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, one of Thomas's eyes had been gouged out, and he had a large hole in his chest, barely clinging to life and also unconscious. As for Fat Three, well, this guy was truly bizarre; his once massive body had now shrunk to that of a Pug, and his pitiful gaze was enough to prove how brutally he had been mistreated.
Even Lord J fared no better; one of his slender Mechanical Legs had been completely severed, and four out of six of his Mechanical Arms were also cut off. As for the Troll Captain, he was somewhat better off, but his Mechanical Body had several large corrosive holes, and his Health Points had dropped to a single digit.
Seeing such a tragic situation, Lin Yuan felt embarrassed to wake up and simply continued to feign unconsciousness. In fact, he was calculating whether he could wipe out the entire Troll Squad, which would grant him freedom. However, it was clear that the reinforcements from g-715 Sub-base arrived too quickly, far exceeding his expectations. At this point, if Lin Yuan still couldn't figure out what was going on, it would be foolish!
Those damn fools! The Troll Squad and the Cat's Eye Team were actually bait! They thought they were clever, but just think about how precious the High-Concentration RZ Crystal Ore is and how much the butcher Lord Eel valued it. How could he allow some cats and dogs to come into his feeding trough and steal from him? This was definitely a planned conspiracy.
Using the Troll Squad and the Cat's Eye Team as bait to lure out the real Yellow Sparrow for elimination. However, it seemed that the Butcher Eel did not anticipate that the Troll Squad would adhere to principles and actually call for help. That was commendable spirit; of course, it might have disrupted the entire fishing plan of the Butcher Eel.
But Lin Yuan didn't care. From start to finish, he had already gained substantial benefits from this whole affair. First of all, he was alive and safe; secondly, his actions raised no suspicions at all, including killing that Shadow Stalker and claiming the dead man's wealth from Yellow Sparrow. The distress signal he sent out using a public code would also not attract suspicion because the Troll Captain must have sent out such a signal when he fell into the trap but was blocked by Cat's Eye. So perhaps he would think that some message had indeed gone out.
In this way, from beginning to end, Lin Yuan managed to extricate himself completely cleanly without any flaws; no one would care about him unless Yellow Sparrow came back to life or if Sour Thorn staged a resurrection!
After the chaos ended, the unfortunate Troll Captain and others barely managed to recover from their injuries. The reinforcements from g-715 Sub-base paid them no mind; those powerful individuals with overwhelming presence who could have easily crushed them showed them mercy by not obliterating them entirely. They dared not make any demands.
Fortunately, the healing for the tank remained intact, and two tanks left behind by the Cat's Eye Team became spoils for the Troll Squad. As for the Troll Squad's own Heavy Shield Hover Tank, along with another tank, they had long since been destroyed on the battlefield.
At this point, no one still paid attention to Lin Yuan, so he automatically woke up because at this moment, both Thomas and Bison were still in deep unconsciousness. He couldn't expect any concern or comfort from either Lord J or the Troll Captain.
Upon seeing Lin Yuan, the Troll Captain glanced at the horrific wounds on his mechanical body with surprise and said, "You’re still alive? After taking a full hit from the Shadow Stalker, you really are lucky. Before you passed out, did you notice anything unusual?"
"No, nothing at all, everything is normal. Boss, are we ambushed?" Lin Yuan asked innocently and confusedly, but inside he was overjoyed. The Troll Captain was truly a clever person, providing him with answers without hesitation. After all, he was just a laborer, unable to participate in higher-level secrets. What was there to doubt except for a bit of luck?
"Forget it, you don't need to worry about it. Hurry up and organize the Tanks. That bastard from Cat's Eye, their Tanks belong to us now. Damn it, we took a huge loss this time!" the Troll Captain muttered angrily, waving Lin Yuan away.
For Lin Yuan, there was nothing more wonderful than this. He immediately began to bounce around collecting spoils of war. The two Tanks left behind by the Cat's Eye Team included a comprehensive information support Tank and a hovering Heavy Shield Tank, both of which were excellent and far better than the Tanks originally owned by the Troll Squad. So, in fact, the Troll Squad didn't suffer too much of a loss this time; at least they gained an extra Tank!
With the Troll Captain's orders, Lin Yuan began to collect all the discarded Parts without hesitation, including dismantling Yellow Sparrow's Mechanical Body. He also destroyed all the subtle clues that had not been cleared away before. In short, he was quietly making a fortune.
Three hours later, Thomas and Bison, who had fallen into a coma, finally woke up. As for the miraculous Fat Three who had transformed into a Pug, it had grown a little bit. It turned out this was a life-saving skill of its race; after taking damage to a certain extent, its body would expand significantly, similar to a berserk skill. However, if it took too much damage and reached its limit, it would shrink back quickly like a balloon that had been popped.
It was quite miraculous; thus this fellow could serve as both a Berserker and a Shield Warrior within the team.
Only at this point did someone from the g-715 Sub-base reach out to the Troll Captain. Although their Mercenary Group was insignificant, they were still worthy of a Reward. Not only had they completed this search mission but they also received an additional Reward. This sudden turn of events made the previously anxious Troll Captain overjoyed; he was also confused about how he had transformed from a thief into a hero catching thieves.
However, the contact person from the high-ranking g-715 Sub-base wouldn't waste time discussing the entire event's development with the Troll Captain. Thus, they returned to the g-715 Sub-base in an inexplicable mix of joy and sorrow. After this muddled battle, they would need at least four or five days to recuperate.
Now that they had suddenly acquired two comprehensive information support Tanks, the delighted Troll Captain decided to convert the most severely damaged and outdated information support Tank into a long-range artillery support Tank. However, due to budget constraints, this modification plan would have to wait until later.
On their safe return to the g-715 Sub-base, Lin Yuan noticed that the Swarm surrounding the Sub-base had mostly been cleared away. Everything was starting to get back on track. However, based on the Troll Captain's experience, this g-715 Sub-base was enormous with various tasks constantly arising; thus opportunities were still plentiful—it all depended on their capabilities.
No one welcomed them back; in fact, no one even noticed their Mercenary Group as Lin Yuan and his companions headed straight for the living area within the Sub-base. This area served as a resting place not only for hired miners and guards but also for all Mercenaries seeking refuge here. The basic benefits provided by g-715 Sub-base were quite good: free energy replenishment limited to three hundred units per person per day; free repairs for Mechanical Bodies or various equipment once per month as long as costs did not exceed fifty thousand Mechanical Coins; one free Protective Coating application per month; and free rest areas where each Mercenary could claim personal quarters ranging from one hundred fifty square meters to one thousand five hundred square meters based on their Mercenary identity and rank. The Tanks owned by each Mercenary Group also enjoyed these benefits with corresponding garages for storage.
Within this living area, safety was guaranteed—fighting was strictly prohibited. Therefore, even an outsider Mercenary could spend their days here without undertaking any missions without anyone paying them any mind for their entire lives. Of course, if there were an outbreak of Swarm attacks, everyone inside the Sub-base would be obligated to defend it.
Because of this, the living area was surprisingly lively. At a glance, whether it was Mechanical Life, Silicon-based Life, or Carbon-Based Life, the variety was dazzling, a stark contrast to Lin Yuan's initial experience at the S-15 Sub-base.
"Beep! Welcome to G-715 Sub-base. I am Intelligent Brain Butler Extension Program No. 01, here to serve you. Please verify your Mechanical City citizen information and Mercenary login details. We will provide you with corresponding services based on the information you provide."
As Lin Yuan followed the Troll Captain and others down to the ground, a light blue orb suddenly appeared before him, just as it did for everyone else.
However, Lin Yuan found it quite strange and hard to imagine. Here was yet another unfortunate Gatekeeper, stripped of its Mechanical Body and reduced to a bankrupt Exile. It seemed he really needed to work hard; otherwise, if he ended up bankrupt, he would become just like this Intelligent Butler Gatekeeper!
Clearly, there were likely many such bankrupt Gatekeepers in this G-715 Sub-base.
Lin Yuan couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The more he learned about Mechanical City, the more unfathomable it became. This was merely an E7-rated Sub-base; what about D-Class, B-Level, or even A-Level Sub-bases?
He felt so insignificant. But no matter what, he had to become stronger. (To be continued.)
