In the midst of several buildings within the prison, there was a designated area for the inmates to exercise. Despite the presence of gates and walls, the chaotic roars from outside could be clearly heard in this open space, and a foul stench mingled with the smell of blood wafted through the air. 0

It seemed even the scorching sun could not bear to watch, retreating behind thick clouds. The occasional rumble of thunder could not drown out the oppressive howls of the corpses outside, and the salty sea breeze did little to disperse the pervasive odor. 0

In such an environment, a group of sixty to seventy people hurried across this open area. About forty members of the Field Trip Group, several armed civilians they had rescued, a U.S. Combat Team, and a dozen serious offenders followed closely behind the Warden and Yang Xiaoyou as they made their way toward a low building. 0

“Menglu, you know what’s happening outside. In this situation, even if your friend finds his way here, there’s no way he could get in. Don’t worry; there’s a U.S. Military base in Hawaii. We were rescued, so he must be fine too,” said the only remaining health teacher from Royal High School in a gentle tone upon hearing her student’s plea. 0

Her own face was pale with fear, yet she continued to fulfill her duties. Several teachers who had initially accompanied them had been dragged away by zombies while trying to protect their students. After arriving here, Huang Jing had undergone a terrifying transformation. 0

“Indeed, we have a light infantry division and two Marine regiments stationed here. We immediately dispatched three thousand personnel for the rescue operation. Given the severity of this disaster, additional rescue efforts will surely follow once preparations are made. If your friend can find a safe place, he will definitely receive help,” said a rough-looking soldier accompanying them, who had begun to show signs of bravado. 0

Hearing this, Qi Menglu’s expression darkened further, and she fell silent, quietly following Feng Lin as they walked together. Her usually lively ponytail seemed to droop slightly in response to her mood. 0

Feng Lin, who had appeared somewhat idle before, glanced up at someone ahead, causing a helmeted fellow to shiver involuntarily. 0

However, at that moment, Yang Xiaoyou could not afford to show any reaction. 0

As for what Hoss, the second-in-command of the U.S. Army, had said, Yang Xiaoyou merely took it as a joke. 0

This statement contributed to the structure of the Cleaned Up team; thus, Yang Xiaoyou had no interest in exposing any truths. 0

It was precisely because of Hoss's words that most survivors in the prison chose to remain there, simply moving from the office building to the prison block. 0

Even among the Field Trip Group members, many suggested staying behind. It was only due to Yang Xiaoyou's promise to protect them that they reluctantly followed along since the prison environment was not conducive for them. 0

Accompanying them were members of the U.S. Army who had discovered an Elder identity and wanted to provide cover for his escape, along with a dozen serious offenders whom the prison aspects feared would cause trouble and thus requested to take along, as well as a few armed civilians. 0

With the U.S. Combat Team able to monitor those serious offenders almost one-on-one, internal security issues along their route were stabilized. 0

As for external threats, dealing with any stray corpses that might emerge from the sewers should not pose much of a problem; given their low appearance rate, encountering another one would indicate more than just bad luck. 0

“This is it; I’ll leave these unruly fellows in your hands,” said the Warden as he led everyone into an inconspicuous bungalow and pointed at a rust-stained iron door inside. 0

The room was filled with many twisted pipes, likely part of the prison's own water system. 0

After finishing, he hurriedly made his way toward the prison, seemingly afraid that something might suddenly jump out and ambush him. 0

"Give me a grenade, and then you all take those unruly fellows and leave," Yang Xiaoyou said to the captain named Ben. 0

After taking a grenade from his waist and handing it to Yang Xiaoyou, Ben felt a bit puzzled but ultimately said nothing. Once Elder's identity was recognized, both sides had a common goal. 0

In his view, the mercenaries were responsible for protecting the Elder in exchange for material rewards, while his team could earn military merit by joining in. There was no conflict between both sides. 0

"Hey Boss, what are you doing? Not letting anyone in?" After the people in front entered one after another, Yang Xiaoyou and his group at the back also closed the door and stepped into the Sewage System's underground passage. 0

However, after closing the door, Yang Xiaoyou used a few thin wires to secure the grenade to the handle. 0

"It's not about people; I'm worried that teacher won't want to part with his students," Yang Xiaoyou said after checking everything and then turned to catch up with the team. 0

"How could that be? It should have been heavily injured by you," Noah replied nervously. The existence of such things made even holding a gun feel inadequate for safety. 0

"Heavily injured? Hey, I hope I'm just overthinking it." Taking out a 9mm pistol he had been reluctant to waste bullets on, Yang Xiaoyou filled the magazine and let out a sigh. 0

This operation was already at the final step of leaving the city; they had worked hard to get here and could not afford to relax now. 0

This sewer led directly to the seaside after exiting the city. Clearly, those from the school were rescued because there were usable boats nearby. As long as they could successfully board a ship, the crisis of the 617 incident would be over, and their anticipated goals would be exceeded. 0

All that remained was to wait until they left the Signal interference zone for Elder to contact his new Boss to pick him up. 0

However, this last stretch of road was completely unknown in terms of danger. If nothing unexpected happened, those left behind in the prison would have already been placed directly on the death list. 0

The most terrifying aspect was not just their formidable combat power but also the intelligence that humanity had left them. 0

They couldn't directly control a horde driven solely by instinct, but they could guide its movements through other means such as making sounds or creating fresh corpses, even clearing paths for them. 0

Before long, the prison gates would surely swing open. 0

“Ha ha, there's a light! I can hear the sound of the ocean! We're really getting out of here, ha ha!” As they caught sight of the bright light at the end of the tunnel, the group, long burdened by pressure and trapped in a dark, foul environment, finally let go of their fears and cheered with abandon. 0

Several surviving civilians who had decided to follow the group were also relieved by their choice, cheering as they broke away from the crowd and rushed forward. 0

The sudden disaster brought on by the flesh-eating zombies had created enough pressure and fear to break an ordinary person. After enduring such stress for so long, the joy and excitement of discovering a glimmer of hope for escape was palpable among them. 0

However, just as two civilians burst through the bright exit, before they could even take a breath of fresh air outside, several sprays of blood erupted from their bodies. 0

Their smiles faded before they fell to the ground. 0

Realizing what had happened, Yang Xiaoyou, who had been keeping an eye on the situation behind them, felt his pupils constrict slightly. This was gunfire. There hadn't been any obvious gunshots just moments ago; with such professional equipment, the identity of the shooter was all too clear. 0

‘Janitor.’ 0

“Enemy attack!” Ben, the team leader, reacted immediately. He quickly issued commands and raised his weapon to fire back—not necessarily aiming to hit anyone but rather to create a deterrent against those outside and buy some time. 0

In the narrow sewer exit without any cover, charging out would come at a steep price. 0

A team similar to this U.S. Army unit could easily block the exit and deal with anyone trying to rush out. Noah and Nobunaga Hideyoshi, seasoned mercenaries, might have some ability to dodge bullets under certain conditions, but it was evident that the current environment did not meet those conditions. 0

If those outside were unaware of what had transpired, it might have been better; however, after exposing themselves like that, there was no chance left for them. 0

Yang Xiaoyou quickly analyzed the situation before him. Yet at this moment, he couldn't fully integrate his memories with reality. Even though his thought process was much faster than average, he still struggled to find a viable solution in such a short time. Sometimes thinking longer didn't equate to finding answers more quickly. 0

He could only gauge their enemy's numbers based on the sporadic silent bullets striking the sewer walls. It seemed that their opponents were not more numerous than this U.S. Military unit; it was just that both sides were at a significant disadvantage due to terrain. 0

The only fortunate aspect was that while they couldn't get out, those outside likely wouldn't dare rush in either. Moreover, due to a slight downward slope in the sewer, it would be difficult for either side to injure one another through shooting or throwing grenades. 0

“There aren't many of them. If we can have ten or so people rush out first to draw their firepower, we should be able to create an opportunity for us to break through,” Nobunaga Hideyoshi quickly suggested while glancing at the dozen or so prisoners nearby. 0

Yang Xiaoyou had considered this point during his thought process, but he also realized that these more than ten serious criminals would not be so obedient. 0

However, just as the expressions of those serious criminals changed slightly, Liang Wuxuan, who had been relatively low-key and quiet, spoke up. "Shooting the Survivor for no reason suggests that the people outside are up to something shady. Rather than wanting to kill us, they are probably more focused on completing their own mission. If that's the case, we just need to show that we are not easy to mess with; they will know they can't handle us." 0

Her calm voice caught the attention of Nobunaga Hideyoshi and Ben, who exchanged glances with her. Yang Xiaoyou also stole a glance at her, unsure if he was mistaken, but he thought he detected a hint of barely concealed excitement in the President's eyes, as if she was enjoying the thrilling environment. 0

Her words instantly reminded Yang Xiaoyou that while the Janitor might take the opportunity to deal with the Survivor, they had more important matters at hand. 0

"That's exactly right. Let's bring out all the grenades and throw them all at once. You guys should channel your Military Training spirit; as long as they see us all as U.S. Soldiers, they'll definitely retreat. Captain, we need you to take the lead; there might be some risks involved." After weighing his options, Yang Xiaoyou quickly confirmed the plan. 0

They were genuine U.S. Military soldiers, charging ahead while being cheered on by students and those ten death row inmates. It wouldn't be a problem to project an imposing presence. Instead of sending those inmates to their deaths, having them cheer would undoubtedly force them to muster their strength; forcing them into danger could lead to backlash. 0

"Their Firepower isn't strong enough! They have far fewer people than us! We can't let those few civilians we saved get killed! Let's charge out and take them down!" Hoss, whose voice was the loudest, shouted along with Noah. 0

Following them were dozens of battle cries from the group led by Zhao Chen. The boys from the Field Trip Group demonstrated that the Military Training of the Chinese Empire was undoubtedly top-notch in terms of military posture and uniformity compared to any other in the world. 0
