“Mo Wenfu, the suspect responsible for a catastrophic explosion, please be aware,” the blurred memory lingered in Fragment. In a restaurant, a figure wearing sunglasses to conceal their appearance watched the news on television, where another fugitive was being sought alongside him. A sense of shared misfortune washed over him. 0

“Yeah, that’s definitely him. Although he doesn’t seem as haggard now,” Yang Xiaoyou thought, his hands hanging naturally at his sides as he stood quietly in a clearing among the trees, observing the scene of the race ahead. A strange feeling flickered through his heart. 0

In his memories, after his parents and Qi Menglu met with tragedy one after another, he had gone completely mad for a long time. Regardless of whether someone was innocent or deserved punishment, he adopted a mindset of “better to kill a thousand than let one escape,” engaging in frenzied revenge that systematically dismantled the already sparse bases of the organization in the Chinese Empire. 0

However, this process had indeed caused severe repercussions. It wasn’t until Feng Lin approached him that he began to regain clarity. If his parents and Menglu were still alive, they would not want him to become like this; somewhere deep inside, he knew he had already broken. 0

At that time, he had become the number one wanted criminal in the Chinese Empire, even overshadowing the armed might of the Common Unity Party. If there was another fugitive who could stand shoulder to shoulder with him back then, it would likely have been Mo Wenfu. 0

He had only orchestrated an explosion, and his body count was nowhere near Yang Xiaoyou's. Yet among those killed in the blast was a high-ranking official from the Ministry of National Defense—the Minister of National Defense and State Affairs. 0

This explosion drew global attention, leading various powerful media outlets to unearth issues surrounding Mo Wenfu. 0

Originally, he was the chief tactical analyst for the Ministry of National Defense’s staff. While he may not have had much say in the global strategic layout of the Chinese Empire, his tactical planning abilities on local battlefields were terrifyingly strong. 0

The decade-long war against Vietnam from the 1980s to 1990s marked his peak performance period; everyone—both opponents and allies—became mere backdrops to his brilliance. 0

It was likely that he would have been appointed as the next Minister of National Defense and State Affairs. Unfortunately, political maneuvering led to his defeat. 0

The newly appointed Minister of National Defense and State Affairs, second only to the Minister of National Defense himself, took extreme measures against this former strongest rival. Not only did he manage to expel Mo Wenfu from the Ministry of National Defense, but he also found ways to make life difficult for him socially. 0

Perhaps it was due to an acute awareness of Mo Wenfu's capabilities that fueled his fear for his own position and prompted such actions. 0

However, pushing too hard often leads to tragedy. 0

“It’s a shame to see this fellow fall so low. But as for the Minister of National Defense and State Affairs—that’s a troublesome character,” Yang Xiaoyou thought silently as he weighed his options while watching the chase draw closer. 0

At that moment, Mo Wenfu, who had initially been fleeing along a path of passing by, suddenly turned and darted into Yang Xiaoyou's thicket. 0

As soon as he dashed in and saw Yang Xiaoyou in a black tracksuit, Mo Wenfu was momentarily taken aback, seemingly surprised that there was anyone in such a remote place. 0

Without hesitation, he ran over to Yang Xiaoyou and grabbed her hand, urging her forward. "Hurry, that group of fellows behind us are ruthless outlaws. Several passersby have already been injured along the way." 0

After saying that, he noticed Yang Xiaoyou had started running as well, so he released her hand and added, "Don't follow me; run that way." 0

"Uh, there are people over there. Never mind, just come with me," Yang Xiaoyou hesitated at first, not wanting to attract trouble. However, seeing that this fellow had pointed out a safe route while he was heading toward a place where people were intercepting them made her feel a bit more favorable towards him. 0

This guy was just a Tactic analyst; his combat ability was probably no better than an average person's. The chances of breaking through where three people were blocking the way seemed slim. 0

Afterward, Yang Xiaoyou grabbed his hand again and led him toward the only safe direction. As they passed by a slightly crooked sapling, Yang Xiaoyou instinctively swiped at it with her right hand. 0

With a crack, the sapling, about the thickness of a wrist, snapped and fell across their path. The group that had been closing in on them seemed caught off guard by the sudden fall of the sickly tree. The front runners stumbled and fell into a heap, while those behind them lost control of their speed and crashed into each other in chaos. 0

"Hey, brother, you were a bit reckless this time. Honestly, if they caught me, it wouldn't be too big of a deal; they wouldn't dare kill me," Mo Wenfu said while leaning against a mailbox on the side of the road, panting as he spoke to Yang Xiaoyou. 0

Hearing that this fellow claimed they wouldn’t dare kill him made Yang Xiaoyou sigh inwardly. It seemed his situation was worse than she had imagined. 0

"If it weren't for that tree falling just in time, we would have been in big trouble. And now we don't even know if they got a good look at your face. Sigh, I've dragged you into this mess," Mo Wenfu finally managed to catch his breath after resting for a moment. 0

The sapling wasn't particularly thick; even an average person would find it quite difficult to break it using both hands and feet. Exhausted from running, Mo Wenfu naturally didn't consider that it was Yang Xiaoyou who had snapped it. Even those chasing them would only think that the sickly tree had been weak all along and had finally succumbed under pressure. 0

"I think I've seen you on television. My parents are both veterans of the Vietnam War; you're being too polite," Yang Xiaoyou said, wanting to maximize the favor she had done by helping him. 0

"Haha, I didn't expect your generation to have seen me," Mo Wenfu replied with self-deprecation, though his words carried a hint of sorrow. 0

A hero who should have been celebrated had become like this due to political strife. Nowadays, it was nearly impossible to find his image or name in public discourse; even when he did appear somewhere, it was often vague and unclear. 0

"Uncle Mo, let's go to my house and hide for a bit. I expect those people will come looking for you again. Given the situation, you shouldn't worry about being a burden," Yang Xiaoyou said with a hint of a smile. 0

"Then I must trouble you," Mo Wenfu replied after a moment's hesitation. Perhaps it was due to Yang Xiaoyou mentioning that her parents were veterans that he ultimately nodded in agreement. 0

As they traveled, he informed Yang Xiaoyou that the people chasing him were from Yongxing. Yongxing Group was a well-known entertainment company throughout Jiangsu, with hotels, nightclubs, and karaoke bars spread across the province. More importantly, Yongxing Group served as a money laundering channel for the large inter-regional gang, Yongxing Society, which had multiple layers of protection in the political arena. 0

In the Chinese Empire, large criminal organizations found it extremely difficult to survive, yet Yongxing Society had managed to take root tenaciously, indicating the immense power behind it. 0

Rumors suggested that there were some influential figures backing Yongxing Society. 0

Seeing the Yongxing people pursuing Mo Wenfu made Yang Xiaoyou realize that while she might not know who else was supporting them, the current Minister of National Defense and State Affairs definitely had interests involved. 0

That was the second-in-command of the Ministry of National Defense; if there were several such powerful backgrounds backing them, then Yongxing Society could act with impunity. Even high-ranking police officers would likely treat them with respect. 0

"These models are quite impressive; their realism is remarkable. You must have put in a lot of effort," Mo Wenfu remarked in admiration as he looked at the lifelike models in Yang Xiaoyou's living room. At that moment, he began to believe more in what Yang Xiaoyou had said about her parents being retired military personnel. 0

Otherwise, he had previously doubted whether Yang Xiaoyou was someone sent to approach him intentionally. Although his suspicions weren't entirely gone, he felt somewhat relieved. 0

"She's just a kid; how could she think so much? I must be overthinking," Mo Wenfu thought to himself with a hint of self-mockery. 0

"My father told me that Uncle Mo's battlefield command skills and adaptability are absolutely outstanding. Do you have any plans for the future?" Yang Xiaoyou asked while preparing some food in the kitchen to fill their stomachs. 0

To save money as much as possible, combined with her forced practice from memory, Yang Xiaoyou often cooked for herself at home. 0

"Outstanding? Ha! What else can I do? What am I capable of?" Mo Wenfu said, feeling as if he had been poked in a sore spot, his words tinged with helplessness. 0

What he excelled at was various tactical layouts; when it came to ordinary survival skills, he was even worse than an average person. He might have some savings left from before, but under constant pressure from the outside world, his future life seemed bleak. 0

It must have been just after his rival had taken office, when he was expelled from the Ministry of National Defense. 0

"The Common Unity Party is gaining momentum. It could evolve into armed conflict in the future. At that time, no matter which side you choose, you will have your place to contribute. And if things go awry, with the current chaotic international situation, anywhere in the Middle East, Africa, or Central Asia, you could live without worries," Yang Xiaoyou coaxed gently. 0

"The Common Unity Party? Ridiculous. They are merely opportunists stirring up ethnic tensions and exacerbating internal conflicts for their own selfish desires. Their promises sound good because they are not in power; when they actually hold power, how many of those promises will they fulfill? If conflict arises, it will only be the ordinary people who suffer. I absolutely refuse to join them," Mo Wenfu replied firmly, showing none of the initial despair he had felt. 0

It seemed he held a deep prejudice against the Common Unity Party. 0

Hearing Mo Wenfu's words, Yang Xiaoyou remained unfazed. While he didn't harbor any strong dislike for the Common Unity Party, he also didn't have much fondness for it. However, by the time his memories faded, the party still maintained its current charter, though it had begun to show signs of internal corruption. 0

The lower Mo Wenfu's evaluation of the Common Unity Party became, the happier Yang Xiaoyou felt. It was clear that his lack of interest in joining the only organization capable of challenging the central government would lead him to lose his last foothold. Losing that foothold was fine; once he did, he could find a way to dig himself into a position as a tactical advisor at his company. 0

It was obviously unrealistic and unwise for him to confront the Minister of National Defense and State Affairs directly, but Yang Xiaoyou could find a way to help him leave the country. 0

"Well, Uncle Mo, my parents won't be coming. You can hide at my house for now while I go to school. Also, if you're worried about dragging me into trouble and decide to leave halfway through and get discovered, it might cause even bigger problems," Yang Xiaoyou said with his mouth full of food as he swallowed down some fried eggs and bread while sipping milk. 0

As he reached the door to put on his shoes, he casually added, "By the way, because of this School Trip, I unexpectedly met a few mercenary brothers. If you're interested, I can try to contact them. I'm a student at Yuying Middle School and also a survivor of the 617 incident." 0

Everyone has been very supportive; thank you again and I hope you continue to provide your support. 0
