"Hey, not a bad reaction." With a swift motion, the dagger was thrown and embedded into the tree trunk beside his opponent's neck. Yang Xiaoyou let his hands drop naturally as he approached Hank, who was covered in blood.
Although the injury on his left hand had yet to heal, given that he had struck Hank in the chest, it should have been possible to use his internal energy to sever Hank's lung and kill him instantly, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
However, after being hit, Hank had leaned back to minimize the force that penetrated his chest cavity, and he still clung to life.
In such a perilous close-quarters knife fight against an opponent of formidable strength, Yang Xiaoyou knew he couldn't afford to hold back if he wanted to capture Hank alive.
There were far too many instances of underestimating an opponent leading to one's own demise; he had no intention of becoming a cautionary tale.
Now that Hank was incapacitated yet still breathing, it was a rare opportunity to ask some pressing questions.
"Heh, were you pretending back then? Was it all just to gain Luo Guohui's trust? I suspect you're one of the members he's investigating," Hank coughed out blood, his gaze becoming unfocused.
One misstep could lead to eternal regret. Hank never expected that what should have been an easy target would suddenly turn into a formidable beast. In terms of sheer strength, agility, and speed, they were evenly matched.
But that terrifying ability to predict movements! The crushing control over the rhythm of the fight completely overwhelmed him! Had he really become complacent due to recent indulgences?
"Do you still think you have the right to ask questions? You've dealt with the virus, haven't you? Now tell me your main purpose for coming here in detail," Yang Xiaoyou narrowed his eyes at him.
"Will you let me go if I tell you?" Hank coughed up more blood from his lungs, breathing heavily. Although he tried to ease the pressure on himself, the broken ribs and lung damage made it increasingly difficult to breathe.
With blood flowing from numerous wounds, if they weren't treated promptly, he would bleed out and die.
"If we were in different positions right now, would you let me go?" Hank was also aware of the stakes. Yang Xiaoyou saw no reason to deceive him.
"Killing me won't benefit you at all. My identity is sensitive; if you report me, I’m as good as dead. But knowing your secret won’t have much impact on me. To save my life, I'm willing to pay any price," Hank said slowly.
"Killing you brings no benefits, but not killing you could lead to problems. I'm not interested in leaving behind any future troubles. You can answer my questions now, or you can wait until I've taken measures. This isn't my first time dealing with IA agents; so far, no one has managed to hide anything from me. Before your remaining value is completely drained, it will be difficult for you to die."
Yang Xiaoyou smiled calmly, appearing somewhat indifferent.
Yet beneath that calm tone lay a hint of brutal bloodlust, the lingering negative effects from the last personality assimilation stirring restlessly with each bloody encounter.
"Believe me, the trouble you'll face from killing me far outweighs the trouble from sparing my life. The benefits of not killing me will also be much greater than those of killing me. Jin Bai has already noticed that I've placed a tracker on your shoulder and has warned me about it."
"If I die, given his usual style, he would definitely report this matter fairly. Your name would certainly be filed with IA. Although it may not lead to any direct actions against you, the repercussions would undoubtedly be much greater than the issues I am aware of."
"As long as I don't disclose this matter, there is no doubt that my influence over you is nearly nonexistent. The leverage you hold over me is your greatest insurance!"
Hank spoke earnestly, desperately trying to make money for a better life; what was the point of living if he lost his life?
"Oh?" Upon hearing Hank's words, Yang Xiaoyou felt a bit annoyed. He knew Luo Guohui's character all too well; he was practically a professional at reporting matters. Wasn't it this fellow who reported his own body being infected and mutated by a virus? Now this rather rigid fellow had meddled again, leaving Yang Xiaoyou feeling exceptionally speechless.
It was clear that this person could never stand on the same side as him. If things continued down this path, it would be hard to avoid becoming adversaries in the future. The only relief was that due to his identity, aside from the soon-to-be First Black President, few understood how to fully utilize his abilities, thus minimizing potential destruction.
Since circumstances had changed, it seemed that the next course of action would also need to adapt accordingly.
Having obtained what he wanted and feeling thoroughly satisfied, Yang Xiaoyou tossed Hank aside like a used rag and turned to leave. "Remember my words: keep a close watch on things. Also, cooperate fully with Luo Guohui's investigation into this organization. Provide updates once a month. Don't worry; I'm not the type to go for total annihilation. Aside from your current savings, any money you make in the future will be yours alone. However, I will need you to gradually integrate my people into your intelligence organization."
From Hank's words, Yang Xiaoyou was surprised to discover that the organization Luo Guohui wanted to investigate was actually the mysterious group behind Sunshine Corporation that he had vaguely sensed before. Given Luo Guohui's character, upon realizing something was amiss, he had begun his own private investigation.
It seemed that in his previous life, there were some other mysteries surrounding Luo Guohui's death.
Upon receiving this news, Yang Xiaoyou felt a resurgence of his dormant memories and personalities; that violent aura made Hank feel like a boat caught in a massive wave, fearing that Yang Xiaoyou might suddenly tear him apart after all his efforts. It took considerable effort for Yang Xiaoyou to suppress those emotions.
"I've already agreed to so much; can you at least take me to the clinic beside here? I can barely hold on anymore." Due to blood loss, Hank's eyelids were drooping heavily as he appeared increasingly weak.
"If you can't handle this on your own, what use do I have for you? Hey, if the things you've done come to light, death might actually be a relief for you." As Yang Xiaoyou thought about the dark deeds that fellow had just exposed in the recording, a chill ran down their spine.
No wonder Hank held a special position in IA; knowing so many things he shouldn't have known yet still being alive was a miracle. The key was that he was entangled in far too much.
He was purely someone who did dirty work, taking on many unsavory tasks that couldn't see the light of day. He was involved with numerous political figures and big shots, and it was only through his own cunning that he gradually attained his current status.
But the biggest reason he could still be alive was that he kept his mouth tightly shut, giving those bigwigs confidence that he only wanted to survive. No one could pry any information from him; if even a single piece of information leaked, he would face immediate obliteration from all sides without a doubt.
Still, Yang Xiaoyou's methods of interrogation were too extreme, ensuring maximum pain while keeping the subject's mind clear enough to endure it without collapsing physically.
After hastily stopping the bleeding and torturing him for three hours, this guy finally spilled nearly all his secrets, allowing Yang Xiaoyou to record them. Evidence of certain matters was revealed as well.
By the end, Yang Xiaoyou felt an urge to back out. Heart had to admit that Hank's abilities were indeed impressive. The reason they had no memory of him was likely due to some unforeseen circumstances, similar to how Elder Josen had been 'infected.'
At the same time, the fact that the other party had held out for three hours under their hands gave Yang Xiaoyou a clear understanding of his resilience; some concerns could indeed be set aside.
In contrast, this relationship of mutual benefit and leverage was much better than a typical hierarchical one. As long as they managed it well, Hank could very well become a loyal dog in their hands. Once their people infiltrated his sphere of influence, there would be even less to worry about.
