"Ha, are they really cutting the winter break in half? This is ridiculous." After receiving this news from Huang Wei, Yang Xiaoyou buried his head in his hands on the table, feeling utterly defeated.
"It's true. Sigh, during the last holiday, I was so anxious that it didn't feel like a break at all. They took away our weekends and now they're taking away our winter vacation too. It's just not fair," Huang Wei chimed in, equally frustrated as he stood nearby.
"Halfway through sophomore year already, and even at our school, the pressure is mounting for the rest of the term. We're actually doing better than some high schools that just arbitrarily cut weekends and holidays," Liu Lianyue added, defending the school a bit.
"Exactly! Lian Yue is absolutely right. Xiao You here can't handle even a little hardship," Huang Wei said, shifting his tone as he seized the opportunity to belittle Yang Xiaoyou while elevating himself.
Yang Xiaoyou felt a mix of disbelief and annoyance at being thrown under the bus like this; this fellow was too much of a backstabber.
The sudden reduction of the winter break posed some problems for him. During the New Year, he would definitely be stuck at home waiting for his irresponsible parents to come back so they could celebrate together.
However, he had originally planned to head to Japan during the first half of the winter break to make arrangements.
Now that Mo Wenfu had already gone ahead to lay the groundwork, Yang Xiaoyou would be able to spring into action as soon as he arrived.
But with the school cutting half of the winter break, Yang Xiaoyou felt a bit frustrated. His previous leave for Mid-Autumn Festival had already raised eyebrows with his homeroom teacher, and he was still under disciplinary scrutiny. It was best not to push Old Class's limits any further if he could avoid it.
He recalled that before escaping from the laboratory, there had been a Virus Infection Incident in Tokyo, one of the most notorious and costly virus outbreaks globally.
That incident didn't seem to be a simple accident; it appeared that an organization was involved. Because of this, Yang Xiaoyou understood that organizations in this country likely had their own interests at stake. His trip to Japan was primarily about selling Arms, and whether he would encounter any affiliated factions required him to be there in person to assess the situation properly.
For these reasons, Yang Xiaoyou felt conflicted about this news.
However, he still had some time to find suitable excuses and methods. If all else failed, he might have to resort to taking risks again.
"Hey? Why are you suddenly interested in the school's activity schedule? You’re usually so lazy," Liu Lianyue said through a mouthful of food as she watched Yang Xiaoyou study a form in front of him in the Activity Room.
"I've always been preparing to be a model student for Xuexuan Guang; I just can't be bothered with you," Yang Xiaoyou replied without looking up, rolling his eyes.
The form he was holding listed various activities organized by Yuying Middle School, including competitions at national and even international levels across different aspects such as Olympiads, sports, manual skills, and more.
Typically, these activities didn't concern ordinary students much; most just checked results after competitions were over.
"Are you doing this for the sake of learning?" Liu Lianyue's expression turned strange upon hearing those words, as if she had thought of something. She then nervously asked, "You’re not changing for Liang Wuxuan, are you?"
Yang Xiaoyou's hands trembled slightly at Liu Lianyue's sudden remark, causing the form in front of him to tear apart. He felt a headache coming on and muttered, "How could that be?"
"But you clearly have no interest in these things usually," Liu Lianyue insisted, her expression indicating that she was certain of her assumption.
"I still need to make up my credits, and this kind of event is the best opportunity. Besides, even if it is for Liang Wuxuan, it doesn't really concern you," Yang Xiaoyou shot back with a roll of his eyes.
"Hmph, I'm just looking out for you so you don't get scammed. Whatever, I can't be bothered with you," Liu Lianyue replied, her irritation evident as if she had been stepped on.
"Ah-ha! Found it! I can't believe it actually exists." After calming down, Yang Xiaoyou pieced the form back together and found a target he was satisfied with.
After Wudan, there was an electronic interest group preparing to participate in the International Youth Electronic Innovation Competition held in Japan along with four other teams selected nationwide.
The timing seemed just right.
However, Yang Xiaoyou felt that his knowledge in this aspect was still somewhat scattered. He had recently organized some information at the library but realized he needed to focus more on it soon to find an opportunity to replace one of the members.
This would also allow him to showcase his abilities to the school, which could help with future credit issues and leave requests.
"Aren't you good at assembling? Why not join that mechanical assembly competition?" Initially annoyed, Liu Lianyue stood up curiously as she watched Yang Xiaoyou scribble names on the paper and asked in confusion.
"I'm interested in this aspect lately and want to check out Akihabara," Yang Xiaoyou replied cheerfully now that he had found a suitable target.
"Tch, nerd."
"I know you're eager to make up your credits, but even though Yuying Middle School is a seed team and doesn't need to go through assessments, the internal selection is strict. The personnel are almost finalized; it might be difficult," Hu Wei sighed as he looked at the application form in front of him and said to Yang Xiaoyou.
Seeing how proactive Yang Xiaoyou was about making up his credits made Hu Wei feel somewhat gratified. However, participating in an international youth competition wasn't something one could join casually. He was unsure about this usually honest student’s capabilities in this aspect.
"Don't worry, Teacher. I still have some confidence in this aspect, and I've been spending a lot of time in the library recently, so I've gained a good understanding. I believe I have some talent," Yang Xiaoyou said, not caring about anything else at the moment, pushing herself forward with the same audacity as Xiao Huangwei.
"I don't mind recommending you, but the selection for the school relies solely on your own performance. However, your grades in this aspect aren't very good. You do have advantages in other areas, and our school only looks at specialties. Every student should have their own thoughts. Since you've made your decision, just go for it," Hu Wei said. Being able to work at Yuying, his teaching ability was quite impressive. Seeing Yang Xiaoyou make her decision, he offered encouragement.
As her recommender, if Yang Xiaoyou performed poorly during the selection, it would reflect on him as well. Yet he didn't dwell on that and still gave her an opportunity.
"Thank you, Teacher. I'll head out now." After receiving an affirmative response, Yang Xiaoyou felt relieved. Although her foundation in this aspect wasn't very strong, with her cognitive acceleration mindset and a period of intense focus, she believed she could still make it into the competition team without much trouble.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have come this far while also covering other subjects.
Having received Hu Wei's approval, Yang Xiaoyou headed to the library to volunteer and absorb knowledge. However, she soon spotted several figures that definitely shouldn't be in the library.
Huang Wei and other members of the FFF Group were there, each carrying a book and diligently studying. This sight left Yang Xiaoyou feeling somewhat blindsided.
Moreover, with her keen observation skills, she noticed that they were reading materials related to finance and electronics. A twitch crossed her face at this revelation about her fellow students.
The weather has turned cold; make sure to wear more clothes!
