Chapter 196: Arrangements
A week later, the Electronic Innovation Competition finally came to a 'successful' conclusion. Li Hong, with her exceptional hands-on skills and innate talent, managed to win the championship this time, even in the absence of Yang Xiaoyou.
On the award stage, Zhu Qibiao was also smiling broadly.
Although Yang Xiaoyou felt some regret for not being able to participate, the fact that his most valued student could win added to his sense of accomplishment.
In the end, he submitted the work created by Yang Xiaoyou, but since it was not made on-site by him personally, it did not meet the competition's requirements and only received a consolation prize for 'Outstanding Participation.'
Yang Xiaoyou did not mind such awards; aside from the prize money, he had nothing to feel sorry about.
Moreover, this consolation prize for 'Outstanding Participation' was enough to compensate for some credits.
Currently, although his work in Japan had been temporarily stalled due to his own commotion, he had completed most of it. In fact, thanks to the Controllers from Ming Mei Shuang Ying, he even received unexpected surprises.
Anyway, the funds for Arms set by Yamaguchi-gumi were to be delivered on time. By showcasing some muscle during their dealings, he had reached a certain consensus with them through semi-coercion and established a long-term cooperative relationship without much trouble.
With this arrangement, even if they unified internally in the future or defeated Inagawa-kai to stabilize their position as the Underworld leader, he could find a way to create another Inagawa-kai once the authorities calmed down. Of course, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to have that Silver-Haired Princess assist with this matter.
With the high profits from this side of things—though not massive in total—it still represented a considerable income.
Since his tasks here were largely completed, he would have some free time in the coming days before returning home.
As a seasoned Nerd, Yang Xiaoyou's hobbies had not changed much. Now that he was in Tokyo, visiting Akihabara was a must. He also needed to find his 'partner' in Japan to help complete some plans.
As for whether there was a possibility of virus leakage over there, Yang Xiaoyou wasn't overly concerned. Based on his understanding of viruses and since the Self-Defense Forces had already taken control of the situation, given H Virus's ability to survive in air like catching chickens, the situation would likely be similar to what he encountered back home—nothing to worry about.
"Heh heh, people reap what they sow. Tsk tsk, an Outstanding Participation award is indeed quite an achievement," Yang Xiaoyou remarked lightly as he finished up at the competition and chose to leave the hospital. However, upon arriving at the hotel, he unexpectedly ran into a rather annoying figure in the hallway—Wang Cheng.
He had been coerced by Huang Wei and his group, fully convinced that Yang Xiaoyou would definitely win the championship this time. If she really did win, it would be a huge problem if the topic of her victory was found to have been stolen from him, leading to significant consequences, at the very least a warning.
However, now that Yang Xiaoyou was absent, after taking her place, Wang Cheng was now receiving awards that were even higher than those of Yang Xiaoyou.
At this point, it seemed pointless to shout about it everywhere. Most people didn’t understand this field; the majority of the audience would only see the results, and his pressure was instantly released.
Along the way, being constantly suppressed by Huang Wei and his fellows had left Wang Cheng seething with anger. Now that he had put down his burdens, how could he not take the opportunity to provoke them a little?
In his view, after investing so much effort into this project only to have it delayed due to such a tragedy was truly heartbreaking. Even if he pretended to be indifferent now, stepping on their wounds would surely make them feel miserable.
He certainly wouldn’t let this rare opportunity slip by.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t say such things in a place like this,” he chuckled, shaking his head at the fellow behind him who couldn’t even grab his sore toe. This fellow was just pathetic.
“Wang Cheng, you thought I was just momentarily bewitched back then? Now I can see through you completely.” The voice of Li Hong behind Wang Cheng made him change his expression as he was lost in thoughts of revenge. He quickly turned and chased after Li Hong, explaining something as he went.
Watching the two of them walk directly toward the hotel exit, Yang Xiaoyou couldn’t help but whistle. It seemed she should thank that fellow for providing her with such an opportunity.
Casually pulling out another phone, Yang Xiaoyou leaned against the wall and lazily spoke into it, “It’s me. The target has left; you can arrange things as you see fit.”
“Xiao You, lend me some money, I’ll pay you back!” After the competition ended, since it had taken place during school break for remedial classes, Zhu Qibiao had kept his promise and let them go out to do what they wanted before leaving.
On the street, Huang Wei followed closely behind Yang Xiaoyou with a few other clowns, shamelessly begging. Due to their gambling issues last time, all their pocket money had been spent. Even their tickets were covered by Zhu Qibiao out of pity.
“Cut it out! Pay back the gambling debts I helped you with first! Hmph! I don’t believe your usual pocket money can cover that,” Yang Xiaoyou said while searching for directions using road signs and maps, rolling her eyes.
These fellows who never learned from their mistakes wouldn’t feel pain unless they experienced it firsthand. This time, Yang Xiaoyou wasn’t going to go easy on them; they must pay back what they owed—at most without interest. They couldn’t expect to borrow more money when they hadn’t even settled their previous debts.
“Ah! Don’t be so cruel! I’ll definitely find a way to pay you back; I could sell myself if necessary! This time—just this once—please help me!” Huang Wei exclaimed with a face full of despair, tears and snot streaming down.
Yang Xiaoyou felt the strange looks from passersby as she witnessed this scene unfold.
"I can't believe this. It's my first time here, and I didn't think I had to buy anything," Yang Xiaoyou said, rubbing her temples in frustration.
"By the way, I forgot you didn't know the news! Dream Butterfly is holding her first album signing event here—her very first!" Huang Wei exclaimed, his face a mix of excitement and disbelief as he pulled out a poster and pointed at it.
"Dream Butterfly? Is she that popular artist recently?" Yang Xiaoyou recalled hearing the name. It belonged to a young idol who had just debuted not long ago. She seemed to specialize in the AG scene and was from Singapore, but it appeared she focused most of her energy on activities within the Chinese Empire. Yang Xiaoyou wondered why her first album signing event was taking place in Japan.
Looking at the poster featuring a girl who seemed to exude a subtle sadness that made her appear endearing, Yang Xiaoyou scratched her head.
She couldn't recall any information about this girl, but given how she had been living her life, it was normal not to know.
Having interacted with someone like Super Wind Lin, who was completely out of this dimension, Yang Xiaoyou felt far less reaction towards Dream Butterfly compared to Huang Wei and the others.
"How can you even compare an artist to a goddess? If it weren't for Sony investing heavily in her entertainment company, she might not even hold such fan interaction events. This is the first time, but it could also be the last. Xiao You, you have to help us! We just need the money for one album!" Huang Wei pleaded passionately.
In a secluded area of a park, two students were surrounded by a group of casually dressed delinquents who looked like troublemakers.
"Please don’t grab me! Let me go! I'm really not an important person; it's her—she's the one with money! Her father is..." Wang Cheng stammered in fear as he faced the shouting group that resembled extreme right-wing supporters.
Before coming to Japan, he had heard about various extreme conflict incidents occurring here. Initially, Captain Qian had come along with him, but he had suddenly disappeared not long ago.
Now facing this situation, Wang Cheng feared he might become another missing person without any explanation.
Standing beside him, Li Hong's face was pale as well. However, upon hearing Wang Cheng's words, anger and disdain flickered in his eyes.
Even those thugs who had been sent to participate in the kidnapping felt disgusted upon hearing such remarks.
Not far behind a wall, Nobunaga Hideyoshi set down his walkie-talkie. The information provided by Aser was indeed useful; after learning about the bodyguard's location, the one-eyed woman beside Hli Princess successfully detained him.
Now all that was left was to find an appropriate time to 'rescue' him.
A truck loaded with containers was steadily driving down the highway, flanked by police cars clearing the way while nearby traffic was temporarily controlled.
Beneath the eaves of a building on the street, a figure cloaked in darkness stood upside down, quietly observing the passing truck. A faint red glow flickered in the eyes hidden beneath the hood.
"Hmph, unaware of their own demise."
