Chapter 103: Revelations
As she ate from the can in her hand, Yang Xiaoyou glanced over at the fellow who still hadn’t taken off her hat and was munching on a piece of bread. She couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated.
“No wonder they never hold fan meetings. This quiet fellow really doesn’t seem suited for it. But perhaps she’s a powerhouse; hmm, I haven’t heard her sing yet.”
Among everyone present, aside from Yang Xiaoyou and Charming Shadow, everyone else had chosen bread or similar foods, showing no interest in the beef or fish cans.
Moreover, as Yang Xiaoyou chewed heartily on her beef can, Huang Wei and the others displayed a strange expression. The shopkeeper and his crew, who had shared some food with them, didn’t even dare to look in her direction.

“Have you lost your mind? How can we go out at a time like this? According to official reports, their activity won’t last long. As long as we have enough food, we can wait until then to leave. The brains of surviving Infected shrink into what is coded as Licker—Advanced Infected—capable of carrying deadly viruses while possessing strength and speed exceeding ordinary Corpses by more than three times. Danger level: A.”
Yang Xiaoyou had initially planned to give a simple explanation but was taken aback by Dream Butterfly’s delivery of this information as if she were introducing a product. Her heart raced; Licker was undoubtedly still classified information within the organization. If she hadn’t relied on her memory, she wouldn’t have known about it at all.
However, the person in front of them, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up with astonishing knowledge about the virus, even identifying its model. If one were not familiar with the Licker, they might mistake her for a delusional girl.
"Uh, Licker? Three times? Is it three times more dangerous?" Huang Wei asked in a strange tone upon hearing his idol's words, clearly skeptical from his expression.
"It’s three times the strength and speed. In terms of danger level, encountering one is like facing an entire Horde. What she said is true; back in Kapa City..." Yang Xiaoyou added, referencing his Kapa City theory for further clarification.
Yet, his gaze remained fixed on the woman hidden beneath her cap, her eyes obscured but flickering with unspoken thoughts.
Hearing Yang Xiaoyou's words, Dream Butterfly finally lifted her head, revealing most of her stunning face. The only part still shrouded in shadow was her eyes, which seemed to meet Yang Xiaoyou's gaze momentarily without revealing any emotion.
"Is there really such a thing?" Huang Wei asked anxiously.
"Yes, it definitely exists. However, the time frame will be slightly longer. If we wait until the Corpse's activity decreases before setting out, we should be lucky enough not to encounter them. But the longer we wait, the more will appear, increasing our chances of running into them. Their hunting and searching abilities far exceed those of the Corpse; they prefer to move on rooftops and infiltrate houses," Yang Xiaoyou explained while observing Dream Butterfly.
After having released so much information earlier, Dream Butterfly had now calmed down again, seemingly unwilling to speak further.
"Since both Survivors from Kapa City have said this, it must be true. A combination of flat-chested and effeminate? What a strange pairing," Chen Wuyou remarked after hearing their conversation, immediately overturning her earlier dismissal of Yang Xiaoyou's words without a hint of embarrassment.
"Both Survivors?" Upon hearing this, Yang Xiaoyou appeared surprised; he hadn't expected that Dream Butterfly was also a Survivor from Kapa City.
Even so, she couldn't possibly know such secrets. He had only used Kapa City as an excuse to shift the focus away from himself. This new virus model had emerged only after the Kapa City incident—a fact known only to him and her.
At that moment, as he pondered these thoughts, something stirred in his pocket. A small creature poked its head out, staring at Dream Butterfly with wide black eyes.
Seeing the creature peeking out from Yang Xiaoyou's pocket, a slight ripple of emotion crossed Dream Butterfly's otherwise calm face. After hesitating for a moment, she tore off a piece of bread and offered it to him.
The little creature in front of her secretly glanced up at Yang Xiaoyou. Seeing no signs of disapproval, it climbed out of the pocket and began to nibble on the piece of bread crumb, its cheeks puffed out.
Watching the little one devour the crumb with such enthusiasm, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but fall into deep thought.
Knowing this secret, combined with her identity as a Survivor from Kapa City, it was easy to deduce that she must have some strange connection to the organization.
However, judging by how she had directly revealed the characteristics of the virus, it seemed that their relationship was not merely one of ordinary subordination.
The most crucial point was that after Yang Xiaoyou tentatively shared some information about the Lickers, the other woman showed no signs of surprise. Even with her keen perception, she detected no emotional fluctuations from her. It appeared that she was not at all surprised to know such information.
Individually, each of these conditions might not seem significant, but when combined...
"It seems she knows the little one. Is she an escaped researcher from the laboratory? That seems to be the most likely possibility. Her reserved personality fits that of a scientist. If that's the case, perhaps there had already been sample testing of the new virus beforehand. After all, I could only verify through other aspects back then." After reluctantly assigning her a seemingly reasonable identity, Yang Xiaoyou felt slightly calmer.
Yet, there were still some questions that needed to be addressed with her when the opportunity arose. However, it was clear that this was not a good moment for such discussions, and she couldn't afford to be overly concerned either; it would be best to find a more natural opportunity.
One thing she could be certain of was that if the other party was willing to share some information, it indicated that she likely harbored no ill intentions. Otherwise, she could have remained silent and hidden her true motives without revealing anything.
