Chapter 108: Lingering Grudge
"Hey, is there really a Survivor inside? It's too quiet," Huang Wei said nervously, having encountered terrifying creatures like the Licker on the way and even having set a Bait. His paranoia had escalated.
As they continued to touch the walls, they arrived at the Kanda Police Station. The silence inside was so profound that it felt lifeless. Huang Wei's teeth chattered slightly as he whispered.
"Fool, it's precisely because it's quiet that there's space for Survivors to exist. And didn't you see those two Corpses at the entrance? They were killed by blunt force trauma to the head—clearly the work of humans. As for that one wandering around, it probably just happened to pass by later," Yang Xiaoyou rolled her eyes at Huang Wei, who had developed a severe case of paranoia.
After giving everyone a few pointers to enhance their experience, Yang Xiaoyou stealthily approached the Corpse with a gaping wound in its abdomen, exposing its rotting intestines. She silently extended her hands and placed them around its neck.
With a slight crack of bones, the Corpse lost its vitality and Yang Xiaoyou gently laid it down on the ground before signaling to the others behind her.
"Don't crawl directly; it'll make noise. I'll help you get inside." Looking at the approximately five-meter-high Automatic Sliding Door in front of them, Yang Xiaoyou spoke up.
This type of retractable door commonly found in office spaces wasn't too high; even girls could climb over it. However, Yang Xiaoyou was not keen on any noise that might arise from climbing over.
After helping everyone through one by one, Yang Xiaoyou finally took Charming Shadow's supple body and used the wall beside her to propel herself over.
Just as she entered the courtyard, Yang Xiaoyou sensed a feeling of being watched. She looked up at the Police Station and noticed a slight movement of curtains at a window. Someone inside had already noticed their presence, and it seemed like something was stuck behind the curtain.
The response from inside didn't keep Yang Xiaoyou waiting long. Soon, two men in police uniforms emerged from a side door. One held a baton while the other wielded a handgun. However, given the relatively calm situation, it seemed their weapons were more for deterrence than anything else.
"Survivors? Come with us; we need to check if anyone among you has been injured," said the armed officer, his face showing signs of caution as he confirmed their identities.
"Injured? What kind of injury?" The other man, who was robust and carried a baton, looked at Charming Shadow leaning against Yang Xiaoyou with concern flickering in his eyes.
"It's not an injury from an attack; just come inside. We'll rest for one night and then leave," Yang Xiaoyou quickly explained while hinting at their intentions.
The two officers exchanged glances before leading them through the side door.
"How did we receive new Survivors again? We can't keep this up; the pressure on food supplies will be too great. At this rate, we might not be able to save anyone," a voice with a hint of severity echoed from within as they stepped through the side door.
A burly man, with a somewhat fierce appearance yet dressed in police uniform, was currently glaring at Yang Xiaoyou and his group as he reprimanded the two officers.
"Captain, they didn't come in through us; they entered on their own," one of the armed officers explained.
"Entered on their own? How could they come in without causing a commotion at the main gate if they didn't use the ladder we lowered over there?" The man, referred to as the captain, scanned Yang Xiaoyou and his companions with a sharp gaze.
However, upon seeing the appearances of Charming Shadow and Chen Wuyou, a flicker of surprise crossed his face. He seemed taken aback to encounter such stunning women in these chaotic times. The difficulty for them to survive in this turmoil was far greater than that of those less attractive fellows.
Not only did they have to deal with terrifying Zombies, but other male Survivors also posed a significant threat to them. In an atmosphere filled with fear and despair, combined with the absence of legal constraints, it was a perilous situation.
As he observed the group discreetly, he found no threatening individuals among them. If it wasn't merely luck that had kept them safe, then it meant one of their capable fellows had already fallen.
That was not much of a threat after all.
"Captain, it's true they came in on their own. This group of fellows has some brains; they managed to flip over using borrowed strength. However, that woman is injured," said another officer wielding a baton. From his tone, it seemed their method of entry involved using some hidden ladder.
"We weren't hurt by those things; we are afraid for our lives. Besides, we only need to stay for one night to rest and recover before leaving tomorrow," Yang Xiaoyou felt compelled to explain once more.
While speaking, he glanced around at the current situation. About ten police officers and twenty to thirty plainclothes civilians were gathered here. The windows were covered with blankets, seemingly to muffle any sounds.
Most of these Survivors appeared quite despondent—some were clutching their hair, eyes red as they stared at someone of the opposite sex, while others were sobbing softly. A few burly men lounged casually on some sofas in the middle of the room.
Their relaxed demeanor while sitting inside the Police Station seemed to indirectly confirm the presence of organized crime in this area.
Fortunately, overall conditions were much better than some similar places Yang Xiaoyou remembered due to the presence of those police officers.
"Hmph! We must consider everyone's safety; we can't skip procedures based on your word alone. I'll take her for an examination. If there are no suspicious signs, then naturally, she won't be troubled," said the burly captain expressionlessly as he reached out to do something.
Seeing this action from him, a flicker of indifference crossed Yang Xiaoyou's eyes. Although he needed rest now, he didn't mind making an example out of someone to avoid future troubles.
Just as he made this decision, a voice that sounded vaguely familiar echoed from the staircase. "Stop! Are you trying to check again? And take advantage of it? Hmph! I really don't understand how someone like you can hold the position of Captain of the Criminal Police when you clearly have a criminal record!"
Then, a fellow who made Yang Xiaoyou feel somewhat annoyed descended from the second floor—it was Lin Min, the officer who had been suspicious of him from the start.
How did this fellow end up in Japan?
Yang Xiaoyou felt no fondness for that fellow, who could only be described as insane. For no reason at all, he suspected that he truly disliked him. Although those things were indeed his doing.
"Hmm? It's you!" After launching a barrage of complaints, he seemed to suddenly notice Yang Xiaoyou's presence. He was quite surprised to see Yang Xiaoyou here.
Then, as if recalling something, he added, "Every time you show up, trouble follows. I heard you're a Survivor from Kapa City. So, encountering a situation like this again, you didn't cause this virus leak, did you?"
Caught off guard by the pointed accusation, Yang Xiaoyou felt a bit annoyed. Well, Kapa City had nothing to do with him, but the current virus leak was indeed somewhat related to him. That fellow really dared to suspect anything.
In this aspect, Yang Xiaoyou felt a bit frustrated. He could have ensured that there wouldn't be any leaks, yet here they were facing such a situation. Sometimes he really had to self-reflect and wonder if he was just a strange species resembling a Divine Horse on the outside but possessing an intelligence far too ordinary.
"Hmph! Mind your words. It's not your place to interfere with our authorities. Hey, turns out you have a criminal record," the burly man said ominously.
"Alright, alright, Murakami, just calm down. Since they’re resting for the night before leaving, let them rest. Just share some food with them," at that moment, a somewhat chubby officer stepped out from behind Lin Min.
Seeing that the situation had unexpectedly calmed down, Yang Xiaoyou also suppressed his urge to act. It would be better for him to let his bruises heal for a while. If things could settle down directly, he didn't want to stir up too much trouble.
