Chapter 109: The Incident
Having witnessed Yang Xiaoyou's impressive abilities, Huang Wei and the others felt a bit more at ease, and the presence of more people nearby provided a sense of safety.
The Captain of the Criminal Police, who had begun to harbor some thoughts about Charming Shadow, was quickly silenced by the Chubby Officer's words. However, it was clear from his tone that the officer did not take his subordinate's behavior too seriously; he merely offered a few token reprimands.
It was also because he learned that Yang Xiaoyou was a Survivor from Kapa City that he approached him to exchange some views and ask detailed questions about the Corpses.
Perhaps this was why he acted in such a reprimanding manner.
Due to this unfavorable impression, Yang Xiaoyou chose to share only trivial information. Nevertheless, even so, the Chubby Officer seemed to have gained some insights.
Although he looked somewhat pig-like, he had managed to climb to this position, indicating that he was quite clever.
The current state of affairs in the police station likely had something to do with him.
However, since it was just one night of rest, Yang Xiaoyou did not intend to engage in any deep interactions with them. Like with the shopkeeper last time, it would be best to part ways amicably when it was time to leave.
As for the somewhat neurotic Lin Min, he showed no inclination to associate with him.
Fortunately, although that fellow was a bit of a weirdo, he could still recognize the right moment and did not bother Yang Xiaoyou. Instead, he continued discussing something with the Chubby Officer.
After assessing the environment, Yang Xiaoyou leaned against a wall, closed his eyes, and entered a state of rest. However, he still allocated some mental energy for vigilance, ensuring he could spring into action at any moment.
Outside Kanda Police Station, not far away in a supermarket, two men in police uniforms wielding batons quickly teamed up with four others dressed in casual clothes. One adult man armed with a steel rod swiftly struck down two Corpses lingering at the entrance of the supermarket.
"Ugh, last time we only took down two, and now there are more. Why do they keep coming here?" one of the men holding a steel rod spat.
"Less talking, hurry up and move the stuff. Whether we can hold out until the Self-Defense Forces arrive depends on this place," a man in police uniform chimed in.
"Tch, some weaklings have come in. Perfect for a test; I'm sure it will satisfy you." As they stepped into the supermarket, they were met with a series of English conversations echoing from inside.
"Who’s in there?" After encountering two corpses at the entrance, they hadn’t expected anyone else to be inside. The leading officer couldn’t help but ask.
In response, a figure emerged from the shadows of a container, walking toward them. When the group got a good look at the person approaching, they breathed a sigh of relief. The Malay man looked a bit pale, but he still appeared to be a normal human.
Corpses don’t talk.
However, just as the two officers were about to ask something, the pale-faced man clenched his fists tightly and gritted his teeth, seemingly struggling with something.
Suddenly, an odd smell began to emanate from him.
While the others were puzzled about what was happening, two muscular and terrifying creatures crawled out from the shadows behind him, flanking him on either side. Their massive claws left deep scratches on the tiled floor.
Seeing the horrifying creatures gradually emerge from the shadows, the expressions of those outside changed dramatically.
"What the hell! What is that thing?" One of the plainclothes officers cursed just as the two Lickers that had appeared bypassed him and lunged toward them.
The officer at the front, who had decent composure, attempted to fight back by swinging his baton. However, he was swatted away by one of the giant claws, crashing into a row of shopping shelves. Metal shards pierced through his body as blood gushed from his mouth and nose. After convulsing briefly, he lay still.
The other officers who had lagged behind saw their comrade's fate and instantly abandoned any thoughts of resistance, bolting for the exit.
Before he could take more than a couple of steps, the last person fell victim to another Licker, which pounced on him and ripped him open with its front claws. After finishing this gruesome act, it darted off again with its companion toward the few fleeing ahead.
"Cough, cough, cough!" The Malay Man, who had been holding something back, suddenly erupted into a fit of violent coughing. Breathing heavily and trembling, he pulled a Reagent from his pocket and injected it into his arm.
Once the injection was complete, he appeared to relax significantly.
"How is it? Is this tool satisfactory?" A figure hidden in a Cloak chuckled from the shadows.
"It’s indeed effective. Biological weapons are truly the most cost-effective option. However, it will take some time to convince the Elders and Chieftains," the now-relieved man replied with a rather unpleasant smile.
"Heh heh, I look forward to your future results. For now, I shall take my leave." With that, the cloaked figure melted back into the darkness.
"Hmm?" Yang Xiaoyou, who had been resting, suddenly opened his eyes and frowned. He stood up and prepared to head toward the window.
However, before he could make any Reaction, a panicked officer from upstairs rushed down and exclaimed, "There’s a strange and terrifying creature that attacked the team sent to find food! I saw one of them get killed instantly!"
Upon hearing this, Yang Xiaoyou's Heart skipped a beat. He had just eliminated four Lickers nearby; theoretically, the chances of another Licker appearing in this area should be slim. But now...
"What is going on? Hmph! Why are you all so nervous? Did you bring this upon yourselves? It was fine at first!" The Captain of the Criminal Police looked suspiciously at Yang Xiaoyou and Huang Wei, his expression darkening.
"Shut up."
Yang Xiaoyou's mood was already extremely foul due to the reappearance of Lickers nearby. Hearing such accusatory remarks only fueled his irritation. He swung his arm toward the captain in frustration.
The captain, who had decent fighting skills himself, was quick to react and raised his hand to block the incoming attack.
However, when his arm made contact with Yang Xiaoyou's arm, he realized that what he was touching was not an arm at all, but rather a bulldozer.
Without any hesitation, pause, or obstruction, the defensive arm was directly pressed toward his face.
After the impact in mid-air, the captain's raised arm instantly bent into a concave shape!
It slammed against his face, compressing half of his cheek inward!
With half of his teeth flying out, he spun through the air and crashed into a few tables and chairs before slamming against the wall and losing consciousness.
The explosive, inhuman strength displayed left everyone nearby in a daze, especially considering that such monstrous power erupted from the seemingly frail boy in front of them. The visual shock and contrast were simply overwhelming.
"Main Hand! What are you doing!" The Chubby Officer came down from the second floor, looking furious. However, after receiving a cold glance from Yang Xiaoyou, he suddenly shivered uncontrollably, his imposing demeanor deflating in an instant. Even he didn't understand why.
He had only felt something similar when he reported to the director at headquarters, but that experience was nothing compared to this; it was far from the sensation of falling into an ice pit. It felt as if one more glance into those eyes would result in being erased from existence.
"I—I shouldn't act impulsively. We should find a way to face this crisis together," the Chubby Officer quickly changed his tone.
