Massacre
A one-sided massacre.
When the Licker burst through the window, the team that had seemed somewhat capable crumbled almost instantly, offering little to no resistance.
The power of a Licker is typically three times that of a Corpse. Although that is already quite terrifying, the makeshift defense composed of over twenty people could have rushed in to restrain it.
As soon as it broke through the window and was momentarily confined, sacrificing a few people would have allowed them to swarm it and completely overpower it.
Unfortunately, the temporary team was just that—temporary. They failed to seize the fleeting opportunity.
With its agility far surpassing that of humans, once it reached the more spacious area ahead, it only had to face a few attackers at a time. Usually, before those armed with clubs could strike, its sharp claws would already have claimed a life.
Coupled with occasional strikes from its tongue, the resistance of the crowd shattered instantly. Driven by fear, they scattered.
Once someone began to flee, the space left behind grew larger, and the Licker became increasingly reckless in its massacre.
Yet Yang Xiaoyou merely stood coldly at the staircase, watching without any impulse to intervene.
When this creature crashed through the window, he noticed another red figure flash by behind it. If this had been an ordinary Licker, he would have unleashed his full power to eliminate it before the other one could react.
However, based on Dream Butterfly's unique sensing abilities, he was certain this was a product controlled by the Queen Bee System. The other Licker not entering at this moment was likely a precaution taken by the enemy; revealing himself first could easily attract the other one and lead to being surrounded.
Now he had to wait for the arrival of the second one while this one continued its slaughter. He needed to create an illusion of no resistance here before launching a surprise attack on the one that came in next.
According to Dream Butterfly, a Licker is still just a Licker. Even with external control present, while this one was caught up in its killing spree, even if the controller outside sensed something amiss, they wouldn't be able to pull back in time.
This was the most feasible method to minimize risk—waiting until this Licker had either attacked Chen Wuyou and his group or cleaned up all other Survivors before Yang Xiaoyou would wait for the appearance of the second one.
Clearly, while his companion was having such a good time killing, the second Licker did not keep Yang Xiaoyou waiting long. Another window was directly smashed open from the side.
The first Licker crashed through the window with almost no resistance, and the ensuing slaughter was a one-sided massacre.
However, when the second Licker burst through the window, it had barely touched the ground before the shards of glass scattered around it and its own form rapidly slowed down.
Usually, Yang Xiaoyou's Cognitive Acceleration could reach a maximum of ten times under his control.
Yet this time, after an inexplicable flash of the Dream Butterfly's image crossed his mind, it doubled again, reaching an astonishing twenty times!
At this speed of thought, the glass fragments falling through the air seemed to be floating, and the Licker that had just pounced into the room appeared almost motionless in his eyes.
Droplets of saliva mixed with blood floated in the air, revealing a ferocious expression. Its broad forehead was covered with dense particles, and its subtle front claws were raised to protect its head from the impact with the glass. Everything was laid bare before him.
The few exposed vulnerabilities on its body were completely analyzed.
With a single strike!
Just one strike!
After unleashing Limit Release and breaking through the cloud of glass shards, Yang Xiaoyou's palm, close to the Blade, traced a mysterious yet natural trajectory as it glided past the Licker's arm that showed no reaction, directly slicing through its neck and spinal cord.
There was not a hint of preparation,
Not a trace of evasion,
Not a shred of interception.
The second Licker, which had suddenly intruded with the intent to learn from its companion and revel in the thrill of slaughter, fell heavily to the ground, completely losing its vitality except for occasional spasms.
Meanwhile, as this second Licker lost all combat capability, the first Licker continued its work without noticing its companion's demise.
By the time it sensed something was amiss, a shadow like black mist suddenly appeared beside it.
"Ah! Ugh!" Outside the police station, beneath the surrounding wall, a sickly-looking man crouched on the ground, clutching his head and howling in agony. It seemed he was suffering from some immense pain.
After completely severing his senses, he collapsed onto the ground, drenched in sweat. With a grim expression, he stared at the tablet in his hands that displayed no input from the signal basket.
What had just happened? In an instant, before he could even react, his hard-earned two tools had been utterly crushed.
He had only intended to test the images transmitted through the mini cameras mounted on their foreheads, practicing his ability for mid-range control.
Everything had been going well until the first one charged in and was crushed with overwhelming force; a group of rabble didn’t even understand how to defend themselves.
At that moment, he thought it prudent to leave one behind to observe, believing that not rushing in was overly cautious. With a Licker's speed, even an ordinary person with a gun posed little threat.
However, just as he decided to send in the second one without hesitation, this completely unexpected scene unfolded before him!
In an instant, there was no time to react; the second Licker he had just deployed was completely crushed by a shadow!
He hadn’t even had time to see what that thing looked like before the mini camera was shattered!
Now trying to regain control of the first one became significantly more difficult due to its instinct for slaughter. It didn’t take long before it followed its companion into demise. The only trace left behind was a cartoon sticker of Hellkiy on a torn sleeve, proving it was either not human or some kind of life form.
This scene was entirely unexpected and struck a heavy blow to his heart.
After spending some time understanding the attack and destructive power of Lickers, he knew well what they were capable of. Yet this killing machine had wiped out everything without even revealing its appearance; it was truly shocking.
Suppressing his astonishment, he took out a reagent and plunged it into his arm. His complexion improved slightly as he shakily stood up, preparing to leave this terrifying place.
However, just as he leaned against the wall and managed to stand up, something fell onto his head. When he touched it with his hand, he discovered it was a shard of glass that cut his finger.
Looking up, he saw a slightly delicate-looking young man squatting on the wall, smiling at him.
"Hey, where are you off to?"
Noticing the shards of glass stuck to the young man's clothes and the fleeting glimpse of a patch on his sleeve, the man's pupils involuntarily constricted. "It's you!"
Seeing the slender figure and refined features, he couldn't connect this person to the incident of killing the Licker at all!
However, the familiar sleeve and the glass remnants clearly indicated that this boy was indeed the one who had swiftly eliminated those two killing machines.
With a swift kick, he smashed the tablet computer. Yang Xiaoyou crouched down and pressed his hand against the neck of the corpse in front of him.
"So stiff already. Tsk, it's neither a Corpse nor a Licker, and aside from being a bit stiffer than usual, it’s no different from an ordinary person. Hmm, is it this kind of reagent?" He looked at a mini safe that was open in front of him, revealing a Reagent inside, scratching his chin.
The interior of the safe had specialized grooves for holding Reagent bottles. It was clear that one larger Reagent bottle was missing from its designated spot, and four bottles were absent from his collection. One of the bottle tubes lay next to the slain fellow.
These must be related to the Queen Bee System.
Unfortunately, due to the environment here, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't afford to take his time for interrogation; otherwise, he might attract more Lickers and face tragedy.
