Chapter 121: The Entrustment
"Damn, this guy is really despicable. I helped carry him all this way, and now he suddenly goes crazy and blinds me!" This unexpected turn of events caught the attention of most people present.
The fellow who had been carrying Wang Cheng's stretcher gasped in shock, realizing that the man had still been thinking about dragging others down with him even before he died.
With such a scene unfolding, the nearby students began to murmur among themselves.
"Ah, it's so noisy! Xiao You Yang, this fellow is calling for you. Come here for a moment." Fia was getting a bit frantic from the surrounding noise, completely unconcerned about the dead man.
"It's Yang Xiaoyou. Thanks, but what do you want? Who is it?" Rolling her eyes, Yang Xiaoyou replied somewhat exasperatedly.
She pushed through the crowd to reach the fellow who was surrounded. Looking down at William, whose complexion was worse than Wang Cheng's when he first collapsed, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but place a hand on her forehead.
"Big brother, sir, how did you get infected too? No way, you can't die! You're supposed to be the future Father of Mechas!"
At that moment, Yang Xiaoyou silently thought to herself.
But seeing the man's pallor, she realized that this future Father of Mechas seemed like he really couldn't hold on much longer.
Well, there have already been plenty of changes to the timeline; adding one more wouldn't hurt. After all, there's no need to worry about debts when there are more people involved.
"Dr. William, you called for me?" Although Heart had considered many things, Yang Xiaoyou merely paused for a moment before asking in confusion.
"Cough cough, Yang Xiaoyou, being able to see you here is my last chance. My assistant is already dead, but my work is still unfinished. I don't want to die; I'm not willing!" At that moment, William appeared somewhat agitated.
The frustration he usually kept suppressed burst forth without restraint.
Seeing his state made Yang Xiaoyou's heart race. Although this fellow had lower physical capabilities than an average person, would such obsession not lead to his demise?
With that thought in mind, Yang Xiaoyou's fingers twitched slightly as she fixed her gaze on him intently.
"However, you have been quite good to me. In the end, cough cough, I can still see you. I have gone through your machine completely; cough, it is completely in line with my thoughts and ideas. I hope you can inherit my legacy and help me perfect my research. Although this may seem abrupt, it is my final request, so please be sure to agree." At that moment, William's face twisted in pain, as if he were struggling with something.
He then trembled as he took out a portable hard drive from his pocket and handed it to Yang Xiaoyou.
Yang Xiaoyou, who had been ready to strike him down on the spot, was momentarily stunned.
"Ah?"
Staring blankly at the trembling hard drive being offered to him, Yang Xiaoyou felt a bit of a headache. It seemed he had misunderstood something.
"Uh, do you mean...?"
Pointing at himself, Yang Xiaoyou cautiously asked under Fia's burning gaze.
"This... this is the culmination of my life's work. I hope you can perfect it. I transfer all ownership to you; even if it's just a reward for fulfilling my wish," William said, trembling as he covered his chest with one hand.
As death approached, he could take none of his wealth or assets with him. The only thing he couldn't let go of was his long-overlooked theory. He was unwilling to leave this world without proving that his ideas were valid to those who had once mocked him.
But time was not on his side; his assistant was dead, and the only person he could rely on was this young student who, despite their age difference, shared the same vision and thought process as him.
Hearing this and seeing William's body fat visibly diminishing while muscle began to tighten, Yang Xiaoyou slowly nodded. "I promise you; I will ensure the world recognizes your views. I will perfect it."
William, whose body had begun to undergo strange changes and whose mind was almost lost, perked up at these words.
"Good, good, good. I entrust everything to you." After Yang Xiaoyou took the hard drive, a hint of relief appeared on William's twisted face. He then let his hand drop down as the changes in his body ceased entirely. His eyes lost their vitality as he collapsed heavily onto the ground.
Yet in death, his expression seemed peaceful, as if he had finally laid down a heavy burden.
Watching the madman who had devoted his life to research fall down before him, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but sigh. The hard drive he had taken for expediency now felt significantly heavier in his hands.
"Since I promised, it wouldn't be bad to help out when I have the time. Who knows, the theory we come up with might directly help Wasp break into the manufacturing industry," Yang Xiaoyou sighed.
However, just as Heart was lost in these thoughts, a sudden chill ran down her spine. She turned her head stiffly and found Fia's face almost pressed against hers, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Seeing Fia's drooling expression made Yang Xiaoyou's scalp tingle.
"Xiao You, William promised to join our HLI Research Team. Since you inherited his legacy, that means..." Fia wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth and looked at Yang Xiaoyou with the gaze of someone eyeing a precious item.
"I refuse. I only agreed to help him complete his research; I never promised to inherit his position. So you're thinking too much. Also, I'm Yang Xiaoyou, thank you," Yang Xiaoyou replied, feeling a bit uneasy under Fia's intense gaze, which seemed almost terrifying as if she wanted to snatch him away.
"Ah no way, absolutely not! Not yet!" Fia exclaimed, growing anxious upon hearing Yang Xiaoyou's firm rejection.
If this were an ordinary student, she could have had Weimar take him away directly. But unfortunately, he was from Hive Security Company, and now there were three fellows here. Even if Weimar came over, she could only handle two of them at most and would still be at a disadvantage.
The thought of a perfectly cooked duck flying away left Fia feeling quite frustrated.
Then she began to roll around on the abandoned table beside her while shouting, "Ah, I don't care! He's mine! He already promised; he can't freeload!"
Her antics caused everyone around to feel a headache coming on.
Yang Xiaoyou looked at the fellow with dead fish eyes, his mouth twitching. To be honest, he envied this fellow; it seemed like she could do whatever she wanted.
Watching her act like this was quite amusing. With that thought in mind, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but chuckle.
But just after laughing, he felt his ear being tugged by a certain flat-faced individual nearby.
"You've really become something now," Chen Wuyou said, a hashtag appearing on his forehead while maintaining his usual flat expression and tone.
"Let go, let go! You know I like to mess around with models and stuff. As for that fellow, I've only seen him a couple of times," Yang Xiaoyou explained to the increasingly frustrated Chen Wuyou.
"Tch," Chen Wuyou clicked his tongue, twisting a bit more before finally loosening his grip, though he still seemed somewhat dissatisfied.
At the same time, he muttered, "The feel isn't bad. If I really did something to let Menglu down, I still have those things saved."
Rubbing his sore ear, Yang Xiaoyou's expression changed slightly upon hearing this. "N-no way! You still have them?"
"I've been nice enough not to post these things on my favorite Forum. Don't give me excuses," Chen Wuyou replied nonchalantly as he moved over to Dream Butterfly.
Meanwhile, Fia was being held by Weimar but was still struggling in her grasp, as if she wanted to rush over and hug Yang Xiaoyou.
"Hey? Doesn't that look like 'Dream Butterfly'?" Some students noticed the changes happening in front of them. After William was taken down by Lucas, they relaxed a bit, and one sharp-eyed fellow followed Chen Wuyou's gaze to see Dream Butterfly, her face mostly hidden under a cap.
Indeed, her fame extended beyond just the AG scene.
