"Indeed, it's no surprise that they are family; is this kind of smile hereditary?" Looking at the half-smile on Liang Jianguo's face, Yang Xiaoyou felt somewhat speechless.
However, what left him even more at a loss was what the other party had just said.
Liang Wuxuan was the most valued member of their family's younger generation, and she was also Liang Jianguo's grandfather's favorite among his descendants.
But now, Liang Wuxuan's great-grandfather had reached an advanced age. Even though he was still quite vigorous, the centenarian's health had recently begun to decline.
This elderly man, who had seemingly come to terms with almost everything, still had significant concerns for his precious great-granddaughter. He hoped that when he passed away, she would bring her partner to meet him so he could give his final approval.
Hearing such a sentiment made Yang Xiaoyou's mouth twitch uncontrollably, and he couldn't help but picture the Demoness's dark smile.
Clearly, it would be difficult to catch the Demoness's eye. Among the nearby males, he indeed considered himself to be the closest to her. It seemed that this fellow was also somewhat troubled by the words of that doting elder, as he had directly used Yang Xiaoyou's request for help to manipulate him.
"Oh dear, you’re smiling. How could the President possibly be interested in me? Our statuses are just too different," Yang Xiaoyou said with a forced smile after hearing Liang Jianguo's words, scratching his head with one hand while waving the other dismissively.
"Yes, I think so too." However, Liang Jianguo's next statement left Yang Xiaoyou feeling as if he had turned to stone.
"Damn it, how polite can you get? The Divine Horse says 'I think so too,' and while he's being courteous, I didn’t expect him to say it so directly. Even if that's true, couldn't he phrase it more tactfully?"
"Cut it out; go find an opportunity to practice with her," Yang Xiaoyou thought irritably to himself.
By now, he roughly understood why this big shot had called him over. Perhaps initially there was no bias against him.
But after meeting and learning a bit about his family background, it seemed that Liang Jianguo occasionally tried to subtly remind him of his situation, as if wanting him to recognize reality and not indulge in unrealistic fantasies.
Faced with these occasional tests, Yang Xiaoyou maintained a composed demeanor. However, in the end, he remained vague and unyielding about any intentions or thoughts regarding Liang Wuxuan. He insisted that she would never look at him that way and deftly avoided any deeper implications.
"Well, it's getting late; I won't keep you for dinner," Liang Jianguo said after about half an hour of conversation as he glanced at the time and decided to see him off.
"Thank you; I probably wouldn't be able to get used to the food here anyway. That'll be all; no need to see me off." After casually waving his hand, Yang Xiaoyou strolled out, completely different from the polite demeanor he had when entering.
It was as if this Mayor was sending guests away. Yet Yang Xiaoyou took it upon himself to leave without needing any further pleasantries.
Hearing such words brought a hint of bemused amusement to Liang Jianguo’s face, though he didn't appear particularly angry.
After Yang Xiaoyou left, he turned to Zou Xueliang who had entered afterward and asked, "Xueliang, what do you think?"
If Yang Xiaoyou were present now, she would notice that Liang Jianguo's refined neighborly demeanor had completely vanished. Instead, he exuded an imposing aura, and his expression seemed to show a hint of interest.
"Capable, yet youthful and reckless," Zou Xueliang remarked after a moment of contemplation, offering a simple but direct assessment.
"Youthful recklessness isn't necessarily a flaw. It's you who seems far too mature for your age. Besides, before I made my point clear, his behavior was hardly reckless. He possesses pride, but it's the kind that's deeply restrained. He must usually come off as quite casual. Now I understand why that Precious Niece reached out to me; it's quite interesting," Liang Jianguo said with a playful smile while casually adjusting his posture.
However interesting it may be, he had passed this test, but how things would unfold in the future would depend on the young man's performance and abilities. He believed that the Precious Niece's judgment would not be lacking.
"Gurgle." Hearing her stomach protest, Yang Xiaoyou displayed a deadpan expression, frustrated with her stingy circumstances.
No wonder she was related to the Demoness.
Reflecting on the seemingly simple conversation between the two men, Yang Xiaoyou realized that this old fox was no pushover. At first glance, their dialogue appeared to be nothing more than pressure tactics directed at her, but within it lay subtle methods that served as a form of probing.
She then took out her phone and switched to another SIM card to initiate some contacts.
"The efficiency is quite good. However, finding such a distinctive fellow isn't too difficult," Yang Xiaoyou thought after quickly filling her stomach at a night market stall. She had already received the information she sought.
The fellow rescued from the gates of hell needed to be personally investigated. This time, there was no intention to harm him, but it was essential to understand who was behind him and whether they suspected Chen Hao.
With this thought in mind, Yang Xiaoyou navigated through the bustling night market and slipped into a dark alleyway. Using the protrusions on the wall for leverage, she leaped several times before vanishing into the night.
Balancing herself on the edge of a thirty-story building, Yang Xiaoyou propelled herself into the air. The rushing wind and rapid descent invigorated her heart.
After falling several meters, she shot out a silver thread that carried her across to the rooftop of an adjacent building. Once there, she pulled out her phone to double-check the information and glanced at the Luxury Hotel across the street.
"This is the place; they seem to be living quite comfortably."
After pausing for a moment of hesitation, Yang Xiaoyou donned her portable retractable helmet—better safe than sorry.
Although that method had been left behind months ago, her current strength had undergone a qualitative leap due to the process of adjusting and absorbing Memory Fragments.
However, the ability to detect potential threats remained elusive.
What if it were someone like Luo Guohui? Although the chances of encountering such non-human entities were frighteningly low, one could never be too cautious.
Still, her purpose for coming here was merely to gather information about this 'American'; she shouldn't run into that fellow right here.
"Alright, this should suffice for now. However, destruction is easy while restoration is difficult. Next time I encounter such a situation, I can't guarantee I'll be able to pull you back. Your personality definitely needs some adjustment. I take pride in being a citizen of the United States of America, but at the same time, I'm grateful to be Chinese."
In the past, our lives were not defined by our lineage. If it weren't for this identity, could you really engage in this herbal business now? What we need to change is the overall status of us as Americans of Chinese descent, not to abandon everything and become second-class citizens!
Sighing, Luo Guohui said, "I'll leave it at that. From now on, you’ll have to figure it out yourself; I can't always be right beside you." As he plucked the fine silver needles from the plump Herb Merchant, he felt a twinge of frustration.
No matter how hard he tried, he could only rely on his personal strength to fight for better welfare and more equal status for everyone. However, once those legal rights were obtained, the rest depended on each individual's mindset. Everyone had different thoughts, and that was something he couldn't change.
He could save them physically, but he couldn't save their hearts.
After hearing the words of this benefactor who had helped him several times, the middle-aged man with a bit of a belly looked somewhat timid. A hint of sorrow flickered in his eyes as if he was recalling something from the past. His lips moved slightly, but in the end, he said nothing more, leaving Luo Guohui uncertain if his words had even registered.
Just as Luo Guohui finished organizing his silver needles, his expression suddenly shifted. The amiable demeanor vanished, replaced by an intense sharpness.
A terrifying pressure erupted from him! It surged upward, piercing through the entire floor and shooting into the sky! All the guests in the hotel felt an inexplicable chill run down their spines!
At that moment, he vanished from the lobby.
"Damn it, that jinx! This monster is really something!" Feeling the overwhelming force rising up, Yang Xiaoyou, who was falling toward the roof of the hotel, twisted mid-air and swiftly shot out a strand of silver thread behind him, abruptly halting his descent.
