Yang Xiaoyou scooped a generous spoonful of ice cream and stuffed it into his mouth, completely forgetting about the two slaps he had given himself earlier.
The sweet, cold treat slid over his taste buds and down his throat, filling him with a refreshing sensation. Indeed, summer was meant for ice cream; it was a good thing.
As he savored the moment, he dug in for another big spoonful.
Across from him, Laiwei watched as Yang Xiaoyou finished one bowl of noodles and then reached for her ice cream. She couldn't help but roll her eyes.
He had initially ordered two large cups at his request, which was already more than one person should eat. Yet here he was, having polished off one serving and still going strong on his own. She couldn't fathom what kind of stomach he had.
“Hey, are you even listening to me?” Seeing Yang Xiaoyou blissfully enjoying his ice cream, Laiwei finally reached her limit, feeling like she was performing a one-person show.
“I am listening. You just want me to take off my pants when we meet, right? It’s probably to check for a birthmark or something,” Yang Xiaoyou mumbled through a mouthful of ice cream.
“How do you know that? Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Upon hearing Yang Xiaoyou's words, Laiwei felt an overwhelming urge to scream. There was no way she could share such things with him.
“Of course you told me! You revealed too much in your words. You should know that Brother Luo cares about you; he just doesn’t know how to express his feelings. He probably wants to make up for the hardships you've faced before. Otherwise, why would he arrange for someone to protect you? That big guy wouldn’t dare come near you,” Yang Xiaoyou said with a comforting smile as he noticed the hint of embarrassment and anger on Laiwei's face.
“Ugh, don’t mention that stiff wooden block! He always has that poker face as if everyone owes him money. And as for the protection—do I really need someone to protect me? I’m not some delicate princess! It’s just making things uncomfortable for me,” Laiwei seemed to have bottled up her frustration for too long. After realizing that even this matter was known to him, she decided to vent her grievances.
Looking at Yang Xiaoyou’s appearance, he wasn’t the type who would strike one as ‘stunning’ at first glance, but he easily gave off a sense of safety and trustworthiness.
Meanwhile, as Laiwei continued her rant, Yang Xiaoyou listened quietly. His previously calm expression gradually darkened.
There hadn’t been anyone following them before; this was a new development.
“Hey, Laiwei, do you know what mission Brother Luo is on?” Suddenly interrupting her mid-sentence, Yang Xiaoyou asked.
Luo Guohui's identity was quite sensitive, and the topic itself felt somewhat presumptuous, yet Yang Xiaoyou still asked directly.
Laiwei, who heard the question, was momentarily taken aback.
Then she pouted and complained, "That's why he's such a rigid fellow. He doesn't treat me like a sister at all. He didn't tell me anything; he just went out on a mission. What about the confidentiality principle? Hmph, it makes me so mad."
Hearing this, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but feel a bit lost in thought. There was no doubt that Luo Guohui prioritized national interests above all else, with mission completion as his top priority.
However, due to his position as a White House Correspondent, even though he had no one under him, he still had significant autonomy. He could temporarily summon assistants and had the authority to handle certain mission intelligence himself, such as informing others of simple target locations.
In general missions, he might not tell Laiwei where he was going, but he likely wouldn't use the confidentiality principle as an excuse.
Given his status, if he was assigned a mission without any autonomy to handle it himself, it probably meant that the mission was not routine.
And if there were additional personnel assigned to follow him starting today...
Just as this thought crossed Yang Xiaoyou's mind, his phone rang. Upon answering, he heard Duh's urgent voice. "The tails outside have been taken out by a group of unknown individuals! They're professionals; they eliminated them in the crowd without raising suspicion! Someone is already heading your way!"
From the tone of Duh's voice, it seemed he was also moving quickly and wanted to do something.
Just as Duh finished speaking and before hanging up, the door of the Ice Cream Shop swung open again. Two men in plain clothes walked in, seemingly chatting and laughing.
However, Yang Xiaoyou felt their attention lock onto her as soon as they entered, accompanied by a faint sense of murderous intent directed at her.
"Want to kill me? The Red Dragon's people? No, it seems their attention is more focused on this girl. They don't want to kill her; they want to deal with the trouble beside her first."
In just an instant, Yang Xiaoyou deciphered their intentions through their subtle movements, projecting everything around her into her mind.
She hadn't expected that after her brother had just captured Revy, there would be others here wanting to capture her alive.
If nothing unexpected happened, it was likely that this group was related to the mission her brother had completed, and it hadn't been long since then. They had already made arrangements within the Chinese Empire!
They probably had a solid foundation in the country or a powerful ally.
"I wonder what kind of significant mission they undertook. Since they've chased all the way to this land, they must be quite determined." Undoubtedly, the cost of launching such an operation in the Chinese Empire was among the highest of any country.
It was clear that they were intent on capturing Laiwei!
However,
After sensing the movements of those two, Yang Xiaoyou felt something strange. Although they were indeed two capable warriors or agents, there was no doubt that with their strength against Laiwei, who had already gained the upper hand, they wouldn't stand a chance. Even if there were companions outside, if they were all at the same level as these two, capturing her alive would be nearly impossible, let alone attempting an assassination.
"Indeed, intelligence is a key factor in determining victory. Although they managed to quickly learn about Luo Guohui's relatives and swiftly made arrangements, unfortunately, the information is still lacking. It seems that under her brother's strict policies, this girl rarely has opportunities to showcase her abilities." With her body in a relaxed stance ready to explode at any moment, Yang Xiaoyou kept using her peripheral vision to observe the reflections of shadows on the window and confirm the situation around her.
If nothing unexpected happened, it was likely that some colleagues who disliked Luo Guohui had sold his sister's location to some 'victims.' Soon after, these 'victims' came knocking on their door.
It seemed that they wanted to use Laiwei as a hostage to coerce Luo Guohui into doing something, perhaps returning mission items or the like.
Just thinking about this made Yang Xiaoyou shake his head. There was no doubt that Luo Guohui valued his long-lost sister immensely, possibly even more than his own life!
However, if it meant betraying the interests of Homeland for Laiwei, he would undoubtedly refuse without hesitation!
Unfortunately, although he knew this from the start and had no intention of undermining Luo Guohui, others did not share the same perspective.
"Hey, kid, are you blind?" The two men who had just walked in with laughter approached Yang Xiaoyou and the others while seemingly engaged in friendly conversation. One of them stumbled over Yang Xiaoyou's chair.
Once he regained his balance, he wore an expression of anger mixed with embarrassment. His words and demeanor were those of a street thug.
The kind of person that most would avoid at all costs.
"Hey? I didn't expect to find such a beauty here. Kid, consider yourself lucky. On account of this lady, you can scram; I'm in a good mood today." The man pretending to be a thug spoke with an arrogant tone.
This elicited feelings of disgust from the surrounding patrons. However, most chose to settle their bills quickly and leave to avoid trouble. In an instant, half of the Ice Cream Shop was empty, with a few even discreetly calling the police.
While this situation wasn't common, it wasn't rare either; most people preferred to avoid unnecessary conflict.
The remaining patrons were mostly there for the spectacle, with one or two younger men cracking their knuckles as if ready to play the hero. They looked like they had some training, likely due to the strong martial arts culture in the area.
The thug who was observing the surroundings sneered coldly at those eager to play the hero. He didn't care at all; as long as he dealt with the chicken, these monkeys would quiet down and not cause any trouble.
It would turn into a case of temporary impulse and coercion against a woman, and if handled well, it could become an unsolved mystery.
Thinking of this, he didn't even consider giving Yang Xiaoyou a chance to respond. Just after he had said "Get lost," without giving her a moment, he continued, "It seems you won't shed tears until you see the coffin. You won't give up until you reach the Yellow River! What kind of look is that? I'll ruin you!"
While he seemed to be rambling incoherently, he grabbed a fork from the table and lunged it toward Yang Xiaoyou's eyes, as if intending to blind her. But deep down, he knew that if he hit her with that force and twisted it, this fellow would undoubtedly be dead.
The sharp fork sliced through the air with a piercing sound aimed at Yang Xiaoyou's eyes, yet she appeared completely unfazed, as if she were in shock.
However, just as the fork was about to reach its target, a pair of silver metal chopsticks shot out from beside her and clamped down on the fork with a 'clang.'
In an instant, the tremendous impact caused both the fork and the chopsticks to bend severely.
The collision between the fork held in his palm and the chopsticks controlled by her fingers resulted in a stalemate, clearly demonstrating the disparity in their strength.
"You've gone too far," Laiwei said coldly as he held onto the fork.
