Feeling the vibrations behind him and hearing the loud noises in his ears, Bear Head felt as if his entire being had collapsed when wood splinters struck the back of his head.
With food readily available and an injured companion serving as bait, it was astonishing that a beast would choose to gather its targets together like such a formidable prey!
However, at this moment, he had no time to think further. The chilling killing intent from behind him and the screams of his last companion served as a reminder that if he wanted to survive, he had to fight with all his might!
Based on his understanding of wild beasts, he knew that if a predatory animal turned its back and fled, it would easily become the first target.
The opponent's speed was not something he could simply outrun; the most direct approach was to take advantage of their numbers. He needed to use the time when his companion was distracted by being hunted to shoot it down!
Without hesitation, he rolled over and raised his gun, aiming at the creature that had just bitten through his companion's neck.
At that moment, he truly saw the full form of the Crimson Monster for the first time!
He also realized that his position was exceptionally well-placed; with just a turn, he had brought the creature into the optimal shooting range. Both the power and aiming difficulty were nearly perfect. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that not only him but also several other frightened companions had come to similar realizations!
In an instant, the monster fortuitously exposed itself within the best shooting range of five other Survivors!
Bang! Bang!
Five gunshots rang out in quick succession. The creature immediately suffered significant damage and let out an enraged roar.
It seemed almost bewildered, unable to comprehend why it had entered what felt like a trap after stealthily approaching its target.
The positions of the group were separated by walls but were 'coincidentally' just outside each other's optimal perception range, preventing them from detecting this subtle encirclement in advance.
At this distance, being caught in the crossfire of five guns meant that even with its remarkable speed and agility, it took nearly half of the Lead Bullets head-on, leaving its body bloodied and mangled.
Yet this only fueled its ferocity. Before they could reload their weapons, it struck with lightning speed—using its claws, biting, or striking with its tongue—to kill three of the hunters.
Bear Head and one other companion looked on in horror. They could hardly believe that after enduring such a terrifying attack, the prey could still maintain such speed and lethality!
It was important to note that these bullets were designed for taking down massive creatures like Polar Bears!
At such a distance, even a creature as massive as the Bear King would be severely injured by five consecutive shots.
But at that moment, the two of them had no time to think about anything else. After swiftly taking down three opponents, the creature had already lunged at one of their companions, its claws poised to pierce through his chest.
Meanwhile, Bear Head disregarded any thoughts of allies or enemies. Seizing the opportunity while Hunt distracted the others, he quickly swapped out his ammunition without hesitation, raising his gun to include both targets in his sights before pulling the trigger.
As he created several lead bullet holes in his companion, the injured creature was also caught in the crossfire.
After firing, Bear Head's ferocity surged. A cornered rabbit bites; how much more so for a hunter drenched in the blood of beasts?
He swung his gun like a club with all his might, the muscles in his arm tensed and the sound of air being sliced through signaled the power behind his strike.
Bear Head was confident in this life-saving counterattack. He was known for his strength, earning the nickname Bear Head after an encounter where a Polar Bear ambushed him. He had missed a vital spot but managed to swing his rifle's stock and hit the bear on the head at a critical moment.
That brutal blow delivered a final strike to the already wounded Polar Bear. Although bears are resilient creatures that can withstand gunfire, that desperate shot from him proved just how powerful his attack could be!
He believed that if he struck this similarly injured but smaller beast, it might not die, but it would surely give him a chance to escape!
If he could just turn and dive into that group of people, he was convinced he still had a chance to save his life!
In this life-or-death crisis, he unleashed a state akin to potential activation. The muscles in his arms were so strained that they began to tear under the excessive burden.
But just as the stock of his rifle was about to connect with the creature, a cold yet incomprehensible command echoed in his mind.
"Stop!"
Though he couldn't understand the words, the irresistible command carried an authority that compelled obedience. To his astonishment, his body came to an abrupt halt against his will.
The sudden forceful stop caused unbearable pain throughout his waist and arms; he could hear the sound of muscles tearing and bones groaning in a terrifying symphony.
Yet most bizarrely, the Crimson Monster before him—who seemed capable of dispatching him with just a flick of its hand—paused momentarily as well, its body appearing to stiffen for an instant.
Although this stiffness lasted only a brief moment, the subsequent two loud sounds pierced through the monster's body with the lead bullets.
The impact sent it staggering back, and then five more shots rang out in quick succession. The rotating projectiles drilled into the monster's head one after another, spraying a burst of blood.
Even with its formidable vitality, after sustaining such severe injuries, especially from the five critical shots that struck true, life was stripped away from its body.
After being knocked down and sliding for a while, only some reflexive twitches remained, along with its fading breath.
Not far from it, due to the forced halt that had already inflicted significant damage, Bear Head was also on the verge of collapse after being affected by a few stray lead bullets.
The penetration power of the lead bullets, although not strong, posed a great threat to the human body due to their softness.
In such an environment, the successive heavy injuries had effectively sentenced this strong hunter leader to death.
Now lying on the ground, he began to convulse and groan continuously, blood spilling from his mouth and nose due to the violent contortions.
The level of misery was even more tragic than that of Yang Xiaoyou.
Moreover, compared to Yang Xiaoyou's freakish resilience, stability, and self-healing abilities, it was clear that Bear Head could only continue to deteriorate and wait helplessly for death.
"I refuse to accept this! Why is this happening? Why did it target us? It's so unfair!" At this point, fully aware of his fate, Bear Head began to roar in anger despite his injuries, coughing up blood as if venting his heart's gloom and dissatisfaction.
"Oh dear, I seem to have miscalculated. Well, it seems that it must think like us humans; it's even possible it can understand our words. This led to your tragedy. I deeply apologize for that, and I also thank you for your selfless efforts at the last moment." Yang Xiaoyou said in an apologetic tone while slowly gathering up the spent bullets.
Bear Head struggled to lift his head and caught sight of Yang Xiaoyou's indifferent gaze as if looking at a corpse. A look of despair crossed his face as he seemed to understand something.
All along, he had assumed that monster was merely a beast—at most a cunning one—but clearly it was not so simple. It seemed that the creature had known this long ago and had set up a trap specifically designed for beasts that any human could easily recognize.
If it could understand their conversation and discern the problem, then their position as bait was ironically the safest place they could be!
For the group that posed the greatest threat and danger, they became the Primary Target. Soon enough, they had ample opportunity to proceed with the Hunt.
Especially that voice lingering in his ears, forcing him to stop, instilled a sense of unknown fear. The Peerless Beauty he had begun to target was equally beyond his reach.
Understanding the characteristics, if given time, it wasn't difficult to conceive and see through such a design. However, what was truly terrifying was that the young man managed to untangle everything in this oppressive environment, calculating all those who wanted to hide behind and take advantage of the situation. He arranged their positions with extreme precision, seemingly predicting where the monster would appear and even who the first target would be.
All of this combined deeply reflected the terrifying control he wielded.
In the end, it turned out that their group had become the most dangerous Bait, while simultaneously resolving their own troublesome issues. By monopolizing the food and taking it away first, it seemed he feared contamination during the fight.
At the same time, that deadly Continuous Five Shots, with its cunning angles and timing, showcased the extraordinary prowess of the Shooter!
He had actually set his sights on someone like this. Ha ha.
"Ha ha, I've traversed the icy plains and seen all sorts of high-end traps, but I never expected to fall for such a simple trick this time. The blind spots in my thinking, hidden in the shadows beneath the light, huh? Ha ha! Those who excel in water drown in it. Is it my fate to die in such a trap? Not unjust! Not unjust at all!" After hearing Yang Xiaoyou's words and seeing his reaction, Bear Head seemed to have an epiphany just before his death, as if he finally understood the cause and effect.
Then, perhaps due to overwhelming emotions, he widened his eyes and half-raised his head before collapsing, losing his voice like that lifeless body.
"Pierce through their heads and see how many **** can still be used. Pack up and let's leave here; we’ll go to another room." After organizing some food and awkwardly cradling a large bundle in his arms, Yang Xiaoyou, relying on his status as an injured person, began directing everyone to clean up.
However, his miserly demeanor left no one feeling relieved; instead, those who had narrowly escaped death felt a deep sense of helplessness.
