“She’s definitely here!” With the forced disconnection still fresh in her mind, combined with what Feng Lin had said, Yang Xiaoyou was now completely certain. Adding to that was the photo taken by Washboard last time; it was clear that Dream Butterfly had found some unique way to operate.
Seeing the tiny red dot on Feng Lin's shoulder, Yang Xiaoyou's expression shifted between uncertainty and concern. What exactly did Dream Butterfly intend to do?
“Do you feel any discomfort or anything unusual?” Unable to grasp the other party's intentions and unable to discern any changes, Yang Xiaoyou could only ask Feng Lin to understand what this pinprick might have caused.
If it were just a wound, Feng Lin clearly wouldn’t be exhibiting such changes.
After hearing Yang Xiaoyou's question, Feng Lin simply nodded calmly. After a moment of contemplation, she organized her thoughts and replied, “Hot, dizzy, but it’s not anything bad.”
As she spoke, Yang Xiaoyou reached out her palm and placed it against Feng Lin's smooth forehead, sensing carefully. Her expression seemed to fluctuate.
It appeared that Dream Butterfly had also transferred that special reagent to Feng Lin. However, compared to the girl on the ground who was still breathing heavily, the initial changes in Feng Lin were somewhat different. It was unclear whether this was due to Feng Lin's own formidable strength or if Dream Butterfly had used a different concoction.
Given their extremely contrasting personalities, Yang Xiaoyou didn’t believe that Dream Butterfly would genuinely want to ‘help’ Feng Lin achieve ‘evolution.’ What was her true intention?!
The giant wolf that had just appeared showed no hesitation in slaughtering lives that were unsuitable for it. Yet, it seemed rather ‘gentle’ towards the girl lying unconscious beneath them; with its massive size, it merely took a light bite without leaving any other marks.
The disparity in treatment between both sides seemed stark.
This left Yang Xiaoyou with an unsettling feeling inside; it increasingly aligned with her worst initial assumptions.
Between a stream and two massive boulders lay the campsite chosen by Yang Xiaoyou and her group.
At that moment, the originally assigned night watchman, Cao Youcai, was nowhere to be found. Judging by the still flickering fire, it seemed he had just added more firewood.
However, from a short distance away, the faint sounds of a conversation between a man and a woman could still be heard.
"Oh, come on, don't be so impatient. You haven't even agreed yet," came a somewhat flirtatious female voice. It emerged from the nearby bushes, belonging to Han Yan, the art school girl who had nearly jumped off a building due to Yang Xiaoyou's earlier antics.
At that moment, she was in a disheveled state, being held in the arms of a strong figure—Cao Youcai himself. He was breathing heavily, his hands roaming under her clothing as he eagerly moved against her.
Her hesitant demeanor only fueled his desire. After hearing Han Yan's words, he immediately replied with urgency, "You still don't trust me? Don't worry; that brat is part of our group. Since he has the talent for finding food, of course, I’ll have him do it all. A team must share hardships; how could we let him eat alone? If he refuses, I'll teach him what teamwork really means!"
As he spoke, he tried to tear at Han Yan's clothes with increasing force. However, the camouflage uniform used for military training was quite sturdy and wouldn’t rip easily.
"What if he just refuses to go? Besides, I can't stand looking at him," Han Yan said, her eyes flashing with disdain at his eagerness. How vulgar! But if she could manage to get this group's strongest member on her side, it would be a clever way to secure some good food for herself later.
Cao Youcai was quite strong; a little wildness wouldn’t hurt. She had initially thought about getting close to that perverted guy who didn’t appreciate her at all—what a mistake that was!
After getting what she wanted from Cao Youcai’s mouth, Han Yan stopped resisting his increasingly aggressive advances and began to comply half-heartedly.
This made Cao Youcai ecstatic when he felt her resistance fade away. With a sudden lunge, he pinned her down in the bushes, his blood racing with excitement.
At the same time, he thought about that guy who had no idea how to use his specialty for personal gain. His heart swelled with pride; so what if survival skills were impressive? Here he was enjoying the company of an art school beauty while that guy had run off into the jungle alone looking for food.
Ha! It was laughable. If that guy really found something later on, it would only serve to replenish his own strength for the upcoming battle!
Just as he was about to unbuckle his belt and draw his weapon, he suddenly felt a warm, soft thing lick him from the side, along with some slimy substance that nearly soaked his hair and face.
A strong, fishy odor assaulted his senses.
Turning his head with some difficulty, he saw beside him a terrifying giant wolf bathed in moonlight, its silver fur gleaming and nearly the size of an adult water buffalo!
It had just licked him with its tongue, and its gaping maw seemed to be smeared with blood! The foul smell was overwhelming.
The visual shock instantly shattered all of his courage to resist!
"Ah!"
A scream broke the tranquility of the entire camp, awakening Han Yan, who sensed something was wrong and opened her eyes.
Even Cao Youcai was momentarily paralyzed by the terrifying giant wolf. The girl who had been preoccupied with how to use her resources to improve her life completely collapsed in that instant.
Without a second thought, she screamed out loud.
The giant wolf, which had been quietly staring at Cao Youcai, seemed to be enraged by the scream. A fierce, savage expression appeared on its face as it turned and lunged at Han Yan, who was pinned to the ground.
In an instant, there was a spray of blood and flesh, splattering all over Cao Youcai's face. The hot blood jolted her awake, igniting all her courage and stopping her body from trembling. In a moment of instinct, she leaped away from the bushes.
Then, while the giant wolf was tearing into Han Yan, she scrambled and rolled toward the camp, shouting for help at the top of her lungs.
At the very beginning, Han Yan's piercing scream had already awakened most of the crew members who were light sleepers. Just as Cao Youcai stumbled into the camp in a panic, Wu Yue, the quickest to react, burst out of the tent wielding a machete.
"What happened? Are you hurt? Why is there so much blood?" Wu Yue exclaimed as he saw Cao Youcai covered in blood, his heart racing in shock.
"Wolves! There are wolves! Over there, over there!" Cao Youcai, covered in dust and blood, was practically screaming in terror, his face a picture of psychological collapse as he pointed towards some bushes obscured by trees not far away.
At that moment, the bushes were shaking violently.
Hearing Cao Youcai's words, Wu Yue dashed towards the bushes without hesitation. Meanwhile, Cao Youcai rushed back into the tent to grab a half-full pack of emergency rations and another machete before sprinting out of the camp again.
However, he headed in a completely different direction from Wu Yue, leaving the others who had just emerged from their tents confused and bewildered.
Wu Yue, having pushed through the bushes and come to an abrupt stop, found himself staring at a body that had been torn apart. Slowly turning its head towards him was a Silver Giant Wolf, blood dripping from its mouth, its pupils nearly reduced to pinpoints.
"h, **"
This became the last sound in his consciousness.
