"Ah? Wasn't I supposed to be at the Ecological Park? How did I end up at school?" Qi Menglu knocked on her head, staring at the unfamiliar dormitory environment, utterly confused.
"The Military Training ended early. A wild wolf from the nearby Wildlife Park came over and injured several students. When they came to find you, you were sleeping so soundly that they just brought you here," a calm male voice explained, one that shouldn't have been in the girls' dormitory.
Yang Xiaoyou was sitting at their common table peeling an apple, while Feng Lin quietly sat across from her.
Although she didn't know why, Qi Menglu felt that the atmosphere between the two of them seemed a bit strange.
However, Yang Xiaoyou's words caught her attention, pulling her back to reality.
"How could this happen? Who got hurt? And why don't I remember anything?"
"You were sleeping like a lazy pig; you wouldn't have noticed even if they sold you off. You were drooling while sleeping," Yang Xiaoyou teased, handing her the peeled apple and playfully tugging at her cheek.
Being caught drooling in her sleep made Qi Menglu go wild with embarrassment, and she immediately retaliated by pulling Yang Xiaoyou into a playful tussle.
"Feng Lin, I'll borrow her for a bit; I'll return her soon." After spending half the morning in their dormitory, Yang Xiaoyou finally got up to leave when their other two roommates arrived.
She then grabbed Feng Lin and dashed out of the dormitory like a gust of wind, waving goodbye to the still-dazed Qi Menglu with her free hand.
By the time Qi Menglu came to her senses, she realized that Feng Lin had already been whisked away by that fellow. Annoyance bubbled up inside her; there was definitely something they were hiding from her.
Her cheeks puffed out in frustration, resembling an angry cat whose tail had been stepped on.
This display drew teasing remarks from her two roommates nearby.
"Hehe, I didn't expect that boy to be anything special. He just has nice skin and looks a bit delicate. Do you girls have a thing for that? Sounds like you have a lace preference!"
Hearing her familiar roommates tease her made Qi Menglu turn around in embarrassment, joining in on their playful banter. With her personality and looks, she easily won over people of all ages and genders.
Inside an Ice Cream Shop, Yang Xiaoyou kept scooping spoonfuls of ice cream nearly as tall as herself into her mouth while tossing bits of fruit onto the table to feed a certain tragic hamster. She chewed thoughtfully before asking Feng Lin across from her, "Did some strange memories get added? What exactly happened?"
Although Feng Lin appeared to be 'normal' at the moment, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't shake off her concern about what that incomprehensible fellow, Dream Butterfly, might do.
Feng Lin stared blankly at Yang Xiaoyou as she ate. After hearing her thoughts, a simple expression of distress crossed his face, as if he struggled to find the right words to express himself.
However, it seemed he soon came to a realization. Clenching his fist, he lightly tapped his palm and then began rummaging through his pocket for something.
As Yang Xiaoyou pondered what he was looking for, she suddenly spotted a crumpled familiar form. A wave of realization washed over her.
This was just from the Ecological Park!
Where on earth did he get this motivation?
Looking at the Marriage Registration Form with their names hastily scribbled over the original entries, Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but laugh and rub her forehead. It seemed she had unwittingly taken someone else's registration form.
Her feelings for Feng Lin were complex. Of course, it was important; how could a girl like her not be liked? For someone who had already experienced great loss, getting married could easily be done with any girl. In her heart, it didn't feel sacred enough; filling out such forms seemed trivial. Yet, in this situation, she found herself struggling to adapt.
Why did Feng Lin want her to fill this out? In her previous life, it was due to Meng Lu's last request before she passed away that had created a twisted obsession within her!
In that past life, she barely remembered their first meeting; they hardly exchanged words. It was vastly different from this life.
The changes brought about by Dream Butterfly had caused an intertwining phenomenon that led to an obsession that shouldn't have existed in the first place. This left Yang Xiaoyou unsure of how to proceed.
For this innocent girl, she didn't want the erroneous Memory Fragments to influence her in ways that should never have occurred.
Gazing at the Marriage Registration Form and then into Feng Lin's clear and ethereal eyes, Yang Xiaoyou felt an inexplicable sense of guilt wash over her.
"Are you unwilling?" Seeing Yang Xiaoyou's attitude, Feng Lin seemed puzzled and asked in a tone that was matter-of-fact, as if discussing family matters.
"Of course not, but I still think we're too young," Yang Xiaoyou replied cautiously. She couldn't directly answer this innocent girl in front of her and decided to buy some time, hoping that later she could sort out the tangled memories.
Without a doubt, Feng Lin usually had a reasonable side to her. After hearing such an explanation, she nodded in agreement. However, what followed nearly made Yang Xiaoyou dive headfirst into the ice cream.
"Then it’s clear."
It wasn’t just about President being so significant.
"Eh? Is it only this scattered Fragment? I guess I've been passively influenced by your obsession from being around you for so long. Now it’s taking the opportunity to latch onto her body. Tsk, you really know how to cause me trouble." After finally calming Feng Lin down, Yang Xiaoyou successfully obtained the information she wanted from her.
Aside from some Fragment related to herself, it seemed that Feng Lin hadn’t gathered much else. From her demeanor, it was evident that if she had received any Fragment regarding Meng Lu's death, she would not be acting this way.
The additional information might just be some intensified hostility towards Dream Butterfly, as if the enmity from both lives had intertwined.
After this exchange, the half-person-high ice cream in front of Yang Xiaoyou was nearly finished. Although they were in a private booth where ordinary people couldn’t see, the server responsible for cleaning up was astonished by the completely devoured ‘satisfaction’ and kept glancing between the two, seemingly trying to figure out where it had all gone.
Just as Yang Xiaoyou was settling the bill, her satellite phone, which had already been powered on, rang.
"My integrity is compromised again; I’m heading out into the countryside once more. Next week will be a full week of it—what a pain! Everything is piling up together. After a week in the countryside, I’ll attend a classmate's wedding and then have to go on a business trip for training. Tragedy is accelerating."
