"Hey, I thought you had kicked the bucket since we haven't been in touch for so long. Did you take the wrong medicine today? You actually called me first." Just as Yang Xiaoyou was about to ponder how to procure supplies from the Daoist Association, he received a call from Chen Hao, someone he hadn't heard from in ages.
The number was unfamiliar to him.
Due to being selected early for the Mecha Tester program, Chen Hao's daily life had become shrouded in confidentiality. He rarely contacted anyone, and phone calls were even less frequent.
Now that he was in the Chinese Empire and had acquired the Anti-Lock System, the restrictions had become even stricter. However, influenced by his family's legacy, Chen Hao's dream remained unchanged, and both his family and Yang Xiaoyou supported him.
So when Yang Xiaoyou received a call from him out of the blue, he was genuinely surprised.
"Just assume I've taken the wrong medicine. Did you get yourself into trouble? An investigator came to talk to me today, asking for my opinion about you."
On the other end of the line, Chen Hao didn't engage in any debate with Yang Xiaoyou but quickly got straight to the point.
"Uh, they asked about me? Well, that's normal. It's fine; you didn't sneak out to meet me behind their backs, did you? Just tell them what they want to know. You know our company's relationship with the military; they might just be curious about my position."
After a moment of surprise, Yang Xiaoyou quickly reacted and chuckled lightly.
After ending the call with Chen Hao, a warm feeling flashed through Yang Xiaoyou's heart. Chen Hao was still the same as ever—an exemplary soldier in everyday matters, but when it came to situations like this, all military regulations seemed to be tossed aside. He couldn't help but appreciate that side of him.
As for the military starting a real investigation into him, that was expected. After all, during the recent operation, he had played a leading role, which was a stark contrast to his previous position as an outer member. Even though Hive Security Company had close ties with the military now, the Chinese Empire was accustomed to keeping everything under control and would certainly conduct necessary investigations. It wouldn't be surprising if they aimed to place a soft nail within Hive Security Company for easier management.
This matter wasn't trivial; however, there were more pressing issues at hand that Yang Xiaoyou couldn't address immediately.
After all, they were allies, and he couldn't afford to go too far.
Currently, multiple projects of the Chinese Empire couldn't function without Hive Security Company. On the other hand, Hive Security Company had many backup options. This unequal relationship ensured that the Chinese Empire wouldn't dare use any harsh measures; it was more likely they'd adopt a softer approach to win him over—perhaps not such a bad thing after all.
After weighing his options, Yang Xiaoyou returned to normalcy and began scanning around on the subway. The temperature was gradually dropping, but various stockings still caught his eye. Besides stockings, some snacks from friends were also quite appealing.
The China Taoist Association was quite a well-known civil organization within the Chinese Empire. Whether it was Taoist beliefs or feng shui practices, they were extremely popular among the public and enjoyed similar popularity as martial arts and combat techniques.
However, despite this, the headquarters of the Daoist Association appeared to be an unremarkable leisure club at first glance. Only the signboard below indicated its true nature.
To someone unaware, it might easily be mistaken for a shabby establishment run by charlatans who thrived on deception.
Yet, upon closer observation, one could notice that the crowd frequently entering and exiting included many well-dressed, successful individuals who exuded wealth and status.
The parking lot outside was also filled with various luxury cars.
As Yang Xiaoyou stepped into this unassuming leisure club, he discovered that the interior was surprisingly different. The decor, while not ostentatious, radiated a serene and natural atmosphere. It was clear that the design was crafted by a master hand, with layouts seemingly designed to gather the auspicious aura of the entire City Center.
There was an undeniable sense of presence within, which was completely hidden from view outside. Only upon entering could one truly appreciate this difference.
Even an ordinary person stepping inside would feel their mood calm and uplifted.
Just after entering through the main door, Yang Xiaoyou noticed several auspicious artifacts placed in key positions. It seemed that the Daoist Association had invested significantly in this headquarters.
The benefits were evident; from the well-dressed yet sincerely devoted successful individuals around him, it was clear that the headquarters possessed a "magical function" that attracted more highly loyal members.
Of course, compared to his interest in those members, Yang Xiaoyou's attention was entirely focused on the artifacts, nearly drooling with excitement.
“Tsk tsk,” he murmured as he stood before a decorative vase. “Both porcelain and iron auspicious artifacts are present here in abundance. This truly shows how deep their foundation is and how wealthy they are.”
Compared to jade artifacts, those made from other materials undoubtedly had more stringent requirements for formation. Perhaps to appear more natural, there were not many jade artifacts among the core items displayed here.
This also reflected the Daoist Association's confidence.
“Excuse me, sir. What kind of service do you require?”
Perhaps noticing that Yang Xiaoyou had been standing in front of the precious vase for some time, a security guard approached politely from a distance.
Of course, his courteous words could easily be translated to mean: "What are you doing here?"
After reluctantly withdrawing her gaze, Yang Xiaoyou looked at the security guard in front of her and straightened her expression.
"Excuse me, is the current President available?"
Her straightforwardness was almost naive, causing the security guard to pause for a moment. Well, usually those who sought an audience with the President had to deal with many people, including numerous wealthy nobles with status and influence.
However, whether they were bureaucrats or tycoons, their tone was always respectful, fearful of being disrespectful in their words.
But this fellow...
Looking at his youthful and innocent appearance, the security guard couldn't bring himself to be harsh. He simply smiled wryly and shook his head.
"The President is very busy; he has many matters to attend to. If you want to see him, you must make an appointment in advance, and even then, it's not guaranteed."
"Um, I was referred by Senior Yuan Fangzi. Could you make an exception?"
Yang Xiaoyou's next words caused the security guard to momentarily freeze in surprise.
Mother's Day... and I still have to work. What a pain.
