Living is hope, and that is why one strives to live. Witerson II's eyes were wide open, staring into the distance, though no one could tell where he was looking. Yet, from his expression, everyone could see his unwillingness. The Zombie was still outside, their home had not yet been reclaimed; how could Witerson II just die like this?
"I'm in, but I faint at the sight of blood. So when the time comes, just give me a shot to put me to sleep!" Augustus suddenly raised his arm, his face slightly pale.
The cabin fell silent for a second, but the next moment, joy spread across everyone's faces. Lin Yi grabbed Augustus's arm and pulled him over, while Lulu began searching for anesthetics. However, after turning the box upside down, she couldn't find any and had to ask Lin Yi for help.
"What are you trying to do?" Augustus looked at Lin Yi, who was staring at him with an odd expression, and instinctively took a step back.
"Nothing much, just making you a bit more comfortable!" As soon as Lin Yi finished speaking, Augustus felt a heavy blow to his head and lost consciousness.
"Quick, start the blood transfusion!" Lin Yi saw Augustus beginning to tremble and realized the situation was dire.
Lulu was a bit nervous but quickly extracted three hundred milliliters of blood from Augustus and then hung the IV bag for Witerson II. However, the speed of the transfusion seemed almost useless for Witerson II; he looked increasingly terrifying, his originally dark face now pale as if covered in white powder.
At that moment, Hai suddenly stood up and said softly, "Brother Lin, I think I can help him heal."
"What?" Hai's voice was low; Lin Yi didn't catch it at first. But as soon as he realized what she meant, he was filled with overwhelming joy!
"You can heal Witerson II's wounds?" Lin Yi placed both hands on Hai's delicate shoulders, nearly shaking her apart.
Hai furrowed her brows tightly and finally managed to squeeze out one word: "Yes..."
Lin Yi became aware of his own overreaction and apologized before urging Hai to act quickly. Hai stepped lightly to Witerson II's side and squatted down obediently.
In the next moment, something miraculous happened. Hai opened her palm, and a soft orb of light appeared above it. The light felt warm and comforting, reminiscent of the sun in winter or an old fireplace in a castle.
Everyone remained silent during this magical moment, watching intently. A minute later, Lin Yi noticed that Witerson II had clearly improved; his previously faint breaths were becoming stronger. The paper-white color of his face seemed to regain some vitality, although his eyes were still half-open and he hadn't fully awakened.
Three minutes later, Witerson II opened his eyes; his mouth moved as if trying to say something. Lin Yi leaned down to listen closely and realized that Witerson II was mumbling incoherently.
Since he could speak at all, it meant he was at least getting better. However, Hai's condition was not so stable; beads of sweat had soaked her bangs, adding an unexpected allure to her appearance.
"Boss, we can't hold on any longer!" A loud shout suddenly came from outside the submarine, and it sounded like Woods.
Lin Yi cursed under his breath for the oversight and transformed into a blur as he dashed out. Outside the submarine, zombies were swarming everywhere, clawing and trying to leap onto the vessel.
Everyone was fighting desperately, each person firing their laser beams at an incredible rate! Even Woods was using his shadow to hide in a corner, continuously ambushing the approaching zombies, and it seemed to be working quite well!
With a sharp whoosh, Lin Yi's two Silver Souls were drawn from their sheaths. The zombies that had gotten too close were instantly decapitated; for Lin Yi, slashing ordinary zombies was like child's play, requiring almost no effort.
"Lin Yi, most of us are down to our last energy cell. We don't know when help will arrive," Pachy reminded him during a brief moment when Lin Yi repelled the zombie attack.
Lin Yi knew all too well that the energy cells were rapidly depleting. However, since Ying Sa hadn't spoken up, it meant that the rescue aircraft was still on its way.
"Hang in there a little longer. If it comes to worst, we can dive; those zombies can't do anything to us underwater!" Lin Yi focused most of his attention on wielding Silver Soul to harvest zombie heads. As long as they weren't large Abominations, they posed little threat to him.
Pachy chuckled bitterly. "These zombies seem determined to kill us. If we really have to dive, I fear they might bury us with their bodies even if we go underwater. We might end up suffocating inside the submarine!"
Lin Yi imagined that feeling and couldn't help but feel a wave of oppression wash over him, as if he were trapped in a transparent glass cage thrown into the deep sea, suffering until death.
"Ying Sa, how much longer?" Lin Yi saw Ying Sa shooting fiercely with her back turned to him and felt a tremor in his heart.
"Just a moment!" Ying Sa adjusted her wireless communicator; she needed to connect to the submarine's mainframe before she could contact the aircraft.
After a moment, Ying Sa turned around with a somewhat grim expression. "Ten minutes left!"
Lin Yi could tell that Ying Sa was also feeling uneasy and naturally didn't blame her. At this moment, uniting to resist the zombies was the most important thing; arguing would be the most foolish way to handle the situation.
Just as Lin Yi prepared to hold out through these last ten minutes, Big Ears Ero discovered another problem!
"What’s going on?" Lin Yi felt a sense of foreboding; after all, Ero was a composed person who rarely lost his cool.
“Captain, those Zombies are swimming up from the depths; it seems they want to make a move!” Ero swallowed hard, his face filled with worry.
Lin Yi let out a sigh, trying to shake off the suffocating feeling inside him. His mental energy had not yet recovered, so he was naturally less aware of the situation than Big Ears.
What to do at this moment was clearly urgent! Lin Yi focused his limited mental energy to take a look into the water, but aside from feeling slight ripples, he found nothing at all!
“Get the Submarine moving! Back it up!” Lin Yi suddenly thought of having the Submarine maneuver back and forth; at least that could buy them some time!
Among everyone, only Pachy could operate the Submarine, so he took the helm. Now, with Pachy and Witerson II severely injured, and Hein exhausted from treating Witerson II, Lulu had to care for both of them. They had lost four combatants in an instant.
Lin Yi felt somewhat helpless but knew he had to face it! He regretted not bringing Fire Dragon along; perhaps it could have burned all those Zombies to ashes. Even if Douglas were here, Lin Yi wouldn't be so overwhelmed!
Suddenly, a splash echoed as a Zombie emerged from the edge of the Submarine, its claws reaching out to grab hold of it.
The sound of its fingers scraping against metal rang out. Lin Yi raised his fist and smashed the Zombie back into the water.
“Splash!”
“Splash! Splash!” A series of splashes followed as more Zombies' heads broke the surface, eagerly climbing toward the Submarine!
“Use knives!” Lin Yi quickly summoned a Silver Soul and began hacking at the exposed heads of the Zombies without hesitation!
Influenced by Lin Yi, everyone else also equipped themselves with blades, which came in handy at that moment!
In no time, squelching sounds filled the air as if they were holding a watermelon-cutting contest. Although more Zombies kept surfacing, they couldn’t withstand everyone’s fury. In just a short while, over twenty were slain, with more than half of them taken down by Lin Yi alone!
As the Submarine moved swiftly, those Zombies that had swum over couldn't keep up with its speed and were mostly swept aside by the current.
Lin Yi felt a surge of pride in his idea; however, before he could fully express it, the entire Submarine suddenly jolted violently, causing many people to tumble off!
“What’s going on?” Lin Yi asked, firmly stabilizing his stance.
“It seems like the engine has gotten tangled with something!” came Pachy’s voice through the headset, clearly just as confused.
“Wait! This is bad; those Zombies are rushing towards the engine!” Pachy quickly checked the camera near the engine and shouted in alarm.
“Hang in there! I’m going to check underwater!” Lin Yi gritted his teeth and jumped into the water, without even carrying basic diving gear.
The water was murky, and Lin Yi could barely see anything. Fortunately, his mental strength had recovered to half. The next moment, he nearly cried out; in his perception, the water was teeming with Zombies.
Suddenly, a Zombie grabbed Lin Yi’s leg. He twisted his waist and arched his body, slicing the Zombie in half with a single blow! However, in an instant, more Zombies surrounded him. Lin Yi couldn’t hold his breath for long; facing so many Zombies, he managed to kill a few before he had to swim back to the Water Surface!
Lin Yi stepped on a Zombie’s head and leaped out of the Water Surface onto the Submarine! But just as he steadied himself, the Submarine suddenly shook violently!
“They’re constantly pushing against the bottom of the Submarine; they must be trying to throw us into the water!” Ero said, leaning against a metal pipe, completely drenched.
“I’m going back down!” Lin Yi declared and dove back into the water. This time, he aimed for the Zombies trying to overturn the Submarine and swung his knife wildly at them.
After just a minute of intense fighting, most of the Zombies surrounding the bottom of the Submarine were dispatched, but Lin Yi was reaching his limit on holding his breath!
