In the Central District of the Federation Homeworld, there stood a gray building hidden within Ginkgo Grove. This building was not tall, and compared to the towering All-Metal Nebula Building in the Central District, it was only remembered on certain occasions.
Of course, this building only appeared ordinary at first glance. In the Central District, where every inch of land was precious, having such a large area of Ginkgo Grove was not something just anyone could manage. However, this building did not belong to any individual; it belonged to the Federation.
As for what this building was called, most people would only know its name through research. However, the inhabitants of the Federation Homeworld had grown accustomed to referring to it as Summer Garden, for it would be the most prominent place during summer. Summer Garden was the power center of the Federation, representing the location of the Presidential Office for billions of people.
Summer Garden had precisely ninety-nine floors. As for why it wasn't a hundred, perhaps only the original designer could provide an explanation. At this moment, on the highest floor of Summer Garden, a silver-haired man stood with his hands clasped behind him in front of a floor-to-ceiling window. It seemed he was the only one in this spacious room, which gave off a somewhat desolate feeling.
The Silver-Haired Man gazed out at the scenery outside Summer Garden, a glimmer of brilliance flashing in his eyes. Although he was over seventy years old, in terms of lifespan for Federation citizens, he had yet to truly enter middle age. The fact that someone not yet middle-aged could stand here represented a certain level of power.
Suddenly, it seemed that the Silver-Haired Man heard something. He furrowed his brow and turned around, his narrow eyes exuding an inexplicable sense of pressure. These eyes had once been referred to as the Eyes of Victory by the voters of the Federation, which is why most people still held them in high regard.
“Sir, everything has been handled!” A man dressed similarly in a long robe with a mustache respectfully addressed the Silver-Haired Man.
“Is Peak alright?” The Silver-Haired Man rubbed his brow wearily; he had been feeling more fatigued lately than at any time in nearly twenty years.
“Peak has entered the special care unit at Federal General Hospital and will undergo physical recovery surgery…” The mustached man briefly recounted Peak's situation, aware that the Silver-Haired Man had many important matters to attend to.
“Pass down orders: neither descendants of the Gao Family nor members of the Ye Family are allowed to cause me any trouble!” The Silver-Haired Man's tone suddenly grew heavier, completely different from his usual gentle demeanor.
“Understood, Mr. President!” The mustached man nodded and continued, “Your campaign meeting this afternoon is scheduled for the seventy-sixth floor…”
The Silver-Haired Man was none other than Gao Li, the five hundred twelfth President of the Federation. Twenty years ago, he had been promoted to five-star general as the youngest senior officer due to his military achievements. However, he later abandoned his military career to run for president and ultimately succeeded!
Gao Li slowly returned to his office chair and sat down, his right hand stroking the armrest as a hint of reluctance crossed his face. It would soon be twenty years; would there be another term?
Ye Yu had been staying in the hospital of the First Military Academy for a few days, and his health was nearly restored. Considering that he had just recovered, the First Military Academy had granted him a short leave.
In March on the Federation Homeworld, spring was in full bloom. Ye Yu strolled along the tree-lined path of the school, enjoying the sounds of chirping birds and fragrant flowers, while a mix of emotions brewed within him.
For the past few days, Ye Yu had not contacted Long Ling'er. She had previously informed him that she would be busy with an important exam and needed to focus entirely on it. Just as Ye Yu was about to tell Long Ling'er about his discharge from the hospital, she quickly replied that she was about to take her final exam and would contact him immediately afterward.
At that moment, Ye Yu stared at the Quantum Communicator in his hand, feeling a bit anxious. However, it wasn't long before Long Ling'er's signature smile appeared in his view.
"Brother Yu, Ling'er congratulates you on successfully recovering your first-level physical skills!" Long Ling'er's voice was as melodious as a lark, clear and enchanting.
"Yeah, it seems like being on Home Planet really provided more opportunities," Ye Yu thought about how this experience turned out to be a blessing in disguise, a smile unconsciously forming on his lips. "How did your exam go?"
Long Ling'er was about to turn eighteen and would soon enter university. Last year, she had failed to gain early admission to a school on the Federation Homeworld. Now that she was on Silver Dragon Star, there was no need for any special applications; she could simply enroll through the normal examination process.
"I should be fine for National First Academy, but I won't be able to study with Brother Yu, which makes me unhappy," Long Ling'er's voice carried a hint of grievance. A girl not yet eighteen, just beginning her first love, felt disheartened being four light-years apart from her boyfriend.
"Then... let's go on a date!" Ye Yu felt a pang in his heart. He wasn't very old either; even if he couldn't make drastic changes, he wanted to take some action.
"But we're four light-years apart; how can we date?" Long Ling'er asked with a hint of hope in her voice. They hadn't been together for over two months.
"First, we can use holographic projection to project our three-dimensional images next to each other. Then through visual sharing, I will sync my visual content to your receiver. This way, even if we're far apart, we can still feel like we're on a date." Men in love often come up with unexpected solutions for their partners.
Although quantum communication technology had matured, no one typically used it for dating someone four light-years away. Yet for Ye Yu, who wanted to alleviate his longing, what wouldn't he do?
When Long Ling'er's solidified image appeared beside Ye Yu, he longed to embrace this girl; however, she was merely a Virtual Image now, though it felt almost real.
Long Ling'er instinctively linked her arm with Ye Yu's. In reality, she only made a gesture without any physical contact. Nevertheless, Long Ling'er was very understanding; even though she wasn't truly beside her boyfriend, her face radiated joy.
"Brother Yu, now we can go on a date," Ling'er said, her face flushed with excitement as she looked at Ye Yu.
"This is the Federal First Military Academy, right? Take me to see it!" At this moment, Long Ling'er could finally see Ye Yu's gaze, and what met her eyes was a path lined with lush trees.
...
"Look, there are weeping willows!" Long Ling'er exclaimed excitedly as she followed Ye Yu's gaze, feeling the spring atmosphere of the First Military Academy.
"I'll make you a Willow Wreath!" Upon hearing Long Ling'er's words, Ye Yu had an idea. He used his Psychic Power to snap off a few willow branches and began weaving them into a circular shape. Meanwhile, several yellow and white wildflowers bloomed along the roadside. With a flick of his Psychic Power, a dozen wildflowers instantly appeared in his hands.
Ye Yu inserted the wildflowers into the willow branches, creating a delicate flower crown that came into view for both of them.
"It's so beautiful... too bad Ling'er can't wear it right now." Long Ling'er sighed in admiration, her face filled with disappointment. As a Virtual Image, she naturally couldn't wear a flower crown.
Ye Yu smiled slightly and said, "I have a way!"
As soon as Ye Yu finished speaking, the flower crown floated up and gently settled on Long Linger's head. Of course, this was Ye Yu using his Mental Power to position the crown perfectly atop Long Linger's Virtual Image.
"Brother Yu, you're so clever..." Long Ling'er blushed as she noticed Ye Yu's gaze upon her and softly planted a kiss on his cheek.
Love might be like this; even if it feels distant, it can still feel incredibly close...
