The cicada's song grew increasingly urgent, signaling that summer was reaching its peak. More importantly, the final assessments at the First Military Academy were approaching. Today marked the last holiday of the semester, allowing students to adjust their states of mind in preparation for the upcoming evaluations.
Ye Yu had not made significant progress in his studies lately; his Mental Power seemed on the verge of a breakthrough, yet it remained unfulfilled. However, his physical skills had reached the pinnacle of the first stage, and Ye Yu believed he would soon break through. Ideally, he hoped to achieve this during the final assessments, as it would be most beneficial for him.
In truth, Ye Yu harbored a desire to secure the top rank in his grade, just like Zhou Ze. Since their last parting, they had not crossed paths again. Of course, Ye Yu had no intention of accepting Zhou Ze's bank card; on one hand, the Zhou family owed him nothing, and on the other hand, he did not need that money and did not wish to incur any debts of gratitude.
Regarding the relic he had received, Ye Yu found the Black Gold Token particularly perplexing. He had used his Mental Power to probe it but found nothing special. However, he noticed that the patterns on the Black Gold Token were extremely intricate and complex, seemingly conveying some meaning. Yet the lines were too abstract for him to decipher at that moment. After carefully researching the Federation's records, he discovered that such patterns resembled ancient totems. Unfortunately, due to their age, he could not uncover any particularly important information.
At present, what mattered most to Ye Yu was improving his strength. However, today was especially significant for him because of his date with Long Ling'er.
Ye Yu arrived at the inter-district train station in Derlin District to board a bullet train. This time, he decided to take Long Ling'er to Galaxy Avenue, the most bustling commercial street in Central District. It was renowned as the most luxurious place in the Federation and had even become a tourist attraction; many visitors to Federation Homeworld often sought to experience its grandeur.
Derlin District was somewhat distant from Central District. Fortunately, there was a time difference of several hours between Federation Homeworld and Silver Dragon Star; it was currently around three or four in the morning for Silver Dragon Star. Although the bullet train traveled quickly, crossing districts still took several hours. Thankfully, air traffic control in the Federation was highly organized, allowing trains to reach speeds of up to a thousand miles per hour.
The journey was indeed lengthy, but the scenery along the way was breathtaking. As they traveled northward, the temperature dropped until they even encountered snow. However, it wasn't long before they were greeted by spring's vibrant blossoms again; by the time they reached Northern District, summer had returned.
As soon as Ye Yu stepped out of the train station, a message from Long Ling'er came through. He informed her of his arrival time.
"Brother Yu, good morning from my side!" Long Ling'er greeted him cheerfully. Today she wore a casual outfit—a creamy white tracksuit—and her ponytail bounced with each step she took as if keeping time with a joyful rhythm.
"Good morning, Ling'er," Ye Yu replied as he extended his arms for an embrace. However, this embrace lacked any tangible sensation; that hollow feeling inside him remained unsettling.
"Brother Yu, is this Central District?" Long Ling'er asked as she gazed at the towering skyscrapers through Ye Yu's shared perspective, her eyes reflecting curiosity.
"Well, this is the most prosperous place in the Federation, as well as its economic, political, and cultural center!" Ye Yu was visiting the Central District for the first time, and he couldn't help but feel a stir in his heart when he saw the towering all-metal skyscraper. As the iconic building of the Central District, Ye Yu had always hoped his parents would bring him here to see it, but clearly, that opportunity would never come again.
"Is that the tallest building Nebula Tower?" Long Ling'er followed Ye Yu's gaze and spotted the high-rise. However, anyone visiting the Federal Central District for the first time would be captivated by that building because it was so tall that it seemed impossible to ever reach the top.
For some, Nebula Tower was so high it felt like it could pierce the sky; for others, it stood as the backbone of the Federation. Yet everyone wanted to visit that building because it was the wealthiest area in the Federation and home to its core financial institutions. Almost all mainstream banks of the Federation were gathered there, and being able to work in that building signified a certain level of prestige.
"Nebula Tower really is in the clouds," Ye Yu remarked after taking a glance. "Let's go; Galaxy Avenue is where Nebula Tower is located. We can take the sightseeing elevator to the top floor and overlook the entire Central District."
"Okay—" Long Ling'er nodded obediently and linked her arm with Ye Yu's as they walked toward Galaxy Avenue.
As the core area of the Federation, Central District was bustling with people coming and going. It felt like a miniature version of the entire Federation, with people from all five districts either busy or leisurely enjoying their time, speaking their unique languages and wearing distinctive clothing. The scene was vibrant and lively.
Being newcomers to this place, Ye Yu and Long Ling'er were naturally curious about everything around them, glancing around frequently. Just as they passed a shop selling specialty clothing from the Western District, Long Ling'er suggested they go inside to take a look.
However, just as they reached the entrance, several young men who looked to be under twenty suddenly surrounded them. Ye Yu narrowed his eyes slightly; he noticed something off about how those young men were looking at Long Ling'er.
"Excuse me, could you step aside? We want to go in!" Ye Yu said calmly. This was Central District, and he didn't want to escalate any conflict.
"You can leave, but this Beauty is staying," one of the skinny young men with deep-set eyes and prominent cheekbones suddenly extended his arm to block Long Linger's way. Clearly, this gaunt young man hadn't realized that Long Ling'er was merely a holographic projection.
"Step aside!" Ye Yu's voice turned cold. Driven by a man's instinct to protect, anger began to rise within him. After all, he was still young; being low-key was acceptable, but not at this moment.
"My friend has quite a temper; why don't we take them to the back to cool off?" The skinny young man said with a lewd grin on his face, reminiscent of countless rogues throughout history. He was preparing to make his move.
"Brother Yu, let's go..." Long Ling'er didn't want to start a conflict right away and signaled Ye Yu to leave.
"Beauty, don't be in such a hurry to leave..." The Skinny Young Man felt that the source of Long Ling'er's voice seemed a bit strange, but at that moment, he couldn't care less about it.
