A group of people in the Federation believed that life was all about living in the moment, indulging in pleasures without concern for the future. They felt that everyone’s fate in the Federation was already predetermined, rendering any struggle meaningless.
Ye Yu and his companions were not like that. However, as the enticing aroma of meat wafted through the air, everyone seemed to let loose, drinking and singing.
Strangely enough, this group of carefree individuals sang the most popular tunes, yet they all joined together to softly sing the school anthem of the First Military Academy: "If I should depart, please do not grieve; you must continue onward, onward, until victory." Perhaps this was their goal—to keep moving forward. This might also explain why past presidents had persistently supported the war against the Blue Seal Empire, despite its high costs; there were always those willing to back such efforts. Not everyone is born to love comfort; if given a glimmer of hope, many would choose to change.
As Ye Yu felt the warmth of those around him, he was momentarily overwhelmed with happiness, sensing a closeness that was almost intoxicating. Instinctively, he offered a small piece of meat he had cut from a Star Beast to Long Ling'er. Her delicate cherry lips parted slightly as she took a bite with an expression of enjoyment. At that moment, with a few drinks in her system, Long Ling'er looked at Ye Yu with flushed cheeks and eyes brimming with affection. It felt as if they were the only two people in the world, evoking envy from those around them.
Just then, a cough broke through the atmosphere. Ye Yu turned to see Gale approaching. "Although there isn't much danger in the Lost Secret Realm," Gale said, "we still need someone on watch while everyone rests at night."
Ye Yu nodded and addressed his slightly tipsy companions. "Senior is right; we have nine hours until dawn. Let's select three people to take turns on watch." He glanced at his team and continued, "Of course, I'll go first; others can volunteer."
"I'll join Brother Yu for three hours on watch," Long Ling'er said, tugging at Ye Yu's sleeve with determination on her face, leaving him no chance to refuse. Ye Yu nodded; being twenty years old, he preferred to spend this sweet time with someone he cared about.
"I'll take the middle shift," Shao Susu chimed in, brushing off crumbs from her hands.
"I'll take the last shift since I wake up early anyway; it’ll just be like getting up two hours earlier," Jin Shan said. He had eaten less than usual—perhaps due to dissatisfaction with Ye Yu's cooking—and now stood up as if preparing to rest.
Ye Yu had no objections and promptly replied, "Everyone tidy up and get some rest; we have another day of tasks ahead. Let's strive to earn more credits." The credits at the First Military Academy had both minimum and maximum limits; the more credits one earned, the greater the benefits upon graduation. Naturally, no one wanted to miss such a good opportunity.
The others had nothing more to say; they quickly packed up and left. However, Wang Jiu, who had initially intended to get Nasha drunk, was now the most intoxicated among them and stumbled as he walked. He had planned to say a few words to Nasha but was met with a sharp look from her that sent him retreating amidst laughter from everyone else.
"You all don’t understand anything! I just wanted to—" Wang Jiu swayed as he tried to continue speaking but was pulled away by Chen Tang toward the resting tent. He mumbled under his breath, likely unaware of what he was saying himself.
In just a few moments, it seemed that everyone had settled down for the night. The atmosphere became extremely quiet, with only the sound of firewood crackling and the occasional lapping of lake water against the shore.
Time passed quickly yet slowly. Three hours had nearly gone by, and Long Ling'er quietly leaned against Ye Yu's embrace, speaking softly. Ye Yu gazed at Long Ling'er’s delicate face, her long eyelashes framing her eyes, and felt a wave of emotions stir within him. After all, he was still a young man, and he certainly couldn’t remain indifferent as described in novels. Yet at this moment, despite his thoughts wandering, he could only suppress them.
However, with no one around, Ye Yu felt a surge of courage. He looked at Long Ling'er’s gently rising chest and lowered his head to softly kiss her tender lips. At that moment, Long Ling'er was naturally asleep; a slight smile graced her lips as she responded lightly to her lover's affection.
Just as Ye Yu contemplated taking further action, an unexpected jolt ran through him—a sudden sense of danger washed over him. In that instant, his body tensed up, and all his Psychic Power surged forth, enveloping the area within hundreds of meters.
Even so, he managed to pinpoint the source of the danger. The next moment, Long Ling'er sensed something unusual and immediately stood up.
“You stay here; I’ll go take a look!” Ye Yu’s extensive experience in special operations told him that this situation could not be taken lightly. He blurred into motion and headed toward the depths of the forest near the lake. Just as he began to move, two faster figures arrived beside him—Shao Susu and Qin Guan.
“You noticed it too?” Ye Yu had no doubt about Shao Susu’s abilities but was somewhat curious about Qin Guan's presence.
“Do you think I’ve wandered through the universe all this time just because of my good looks?” Qin Guan replied somewhat irritably but then his expression turned serious.
“There should be Star Beasts nearby, but they don’t seem to be here to attack us!” Shao Susu’s Mental Power was naturally stronger than Ye Yu’s, yet she still sounded uncertain.
Ye Yu nodded and said, “Let’s go take a look!”
Then the three figures transformed into shadows as they rushed toward the forest. There was no room for hesitation; after all, danger was imminent.
In less than five minutes, they stopped as they sensed the source of danger. It was indeed Star Beasts without a doubt, but they were not there to attack Ye Yu and his companions.
Although it was already late at night, the three of them, along with their Mental Power, could sense countless Star Beasts passing through their perception. Despite Qin Guan's Mental Power, his experience wandering through dangerous areas of the universe gave him a keen awareness of danger.
"Beast Tide?" Shao Susu said uncertainly, as if waiting for someone to respond or perhaps trying to confirm it for herself.
"What does that mean?" Qin Guan asked instinctively, as he didn't know much about the Lost Secret Realm.
"According to the records from the First Military Academy, the Star Beasts in the secret realm gather together during certain time periods. This process lasts for several days, and when their numbers reach a certain minimum threshold, they will surge toward the human borders!" Ye Yu, who was accustomed to conducting thorough research before taking action, naturally had some understanding of matters like the Beast Tide.
