Yama's Wedding
“What else is there? Is it important?” Yao Guang asked Xue.
“Hmm, we’ll talk about it when we get back.”
Before long, Xue and Yao Guang returned to the room.
“Yao Guang, I’m going to summon the souls of Roux and his companion from the Underworld to find out how they died,” Xue said as he began to cast a spell.
Oh right, how could I forget? Xue is the King of the Ten Halls. Yao Guang felt a twinge of dissatisfaction at his own carelessness.
Soon, the two souls were brought forth by the Ghost Messenger.
The two of them followed the Ghost Messenger with pitiful expressions, awaiting their impending fate.
“Master, they have been brought here,” one of the Ghost Messengers reported to Xue before stepping back.
The two souls stared at Xue in astonishment. “You are Young Master Xue. Aren’t we dead? Could it be that you are also dead?”
“Puh puh puh, what nonsense! You two are the ones who are dead—wait, you were already dead.” It was absurd that these two sisters couldn’t see him, a living person sitting right beside them. At this moment, Yao Guang’s sympathy for them had completely vanished.
“Oh, you’re here too! Sorry, I didn’t see you!”
"Tch, how could you not see? It's just as annoying as when I was alive."
"Alright, enough reminiscing. The reason I called you here is to ask how you died," Xue interrupted the two, directing his question at them.
The two exchanged glances, their expressions revealing their discomfort. Roux stepped forward, tightly gripping the sleeve of her clothing. "We... we don't know."
"You don't even know how you died? What a waste of life," Yao Guang scoffed.
It was clear that the two were hiding something, but Xue pressed on. "You two better come clean. Otherwise, in Yama's Hall, I will make you speak."
Yao Guang's expression turned serious as she realized Xue was not joking. Indeed, after he finished speaking, the two sisters could no longer withstand his ghostly aura and knelt down to plead for mercy.
"Young Master Xue, please spare us. We are already dead."
"That doesn't change anything," Xue insisted, wanting their answers.
"We... we..." Xiao Yao Jia hesitated, still wanting to conceal the truth. She tugged at Roux's sleeve, but Roux patted her hand and bowed to Xue. When she raised her head again, Yao Guang felt that she seemed somewhat different.
"I don't know who you are, but we are already dead. Yet you were able to bring us out from the Underworld, and that Ghost Messenger just referred to you as 'Sir.' You must either be a deity or someone from the Underworld," Roux said.
Xue nodded noncommittally. "I am one of the Ten Kings of Hell—Revolving King Xue."
"I see. It seems we misjudged you. We pay our respects to the King of Hell." Roux performed another deep bow. "My sister and I truly do not know how we died."
"Ha, who doesn't know how they died?" Yao Guang looked at the two in disbelief. How could that be possible?
Xiao Yao Jia, hearing Yao Guang's scoff, shot her a resentful glare.
Yao Guang unceremoniously rolled her eyes in response.
Xue ignored the antics between them and gestured for Roux to continue.
"Your Honor, we truly do not know how we died. I remember last night, my sister and I were chatting in our room when suddenly a white shadow floated by. We went to check it out, and then, then we saw an old acquaintance."
Roux sighed lightly.
"What acquaintance?" Xue took a sip of tea, listening intently to Roux's words.
"An old acquaintance who has passed away," Roux fixed his gaze on Xue.
"A person who died long ago, someone forbidden to mention in the Mansion."
"Oh? Why is that forbidden?"
