Xue looked at Yao Guang, blaming himself for not thinking of it sooner. He had already known that those men in black were clearly suspicious; why had he tangled with them for so long? Now that he thought about it, those people were there to hinder them, simply to buy time.
"What happened?" Xiao Yao Hao entered from outside. When they had arrived, they had just seen Xiao Yao Yu doing something to Yao Guang. As soon as he noticed them, he jumped out the window and fled. Xue immediately checked on Yao Guang while chasing after Xiao Yao Yu.
Xue shook his head. "Did you catch up with Xiao Yao Yu?" He had just examined Yao Guang's body; there were no injuries or signs of poisoning. It was just that Yao Guang seemed to be in another world. Although her breathing was faint, he couldn't wake her up no matter what he tried. He attempted to enter Yao Guang's mind, but it was a blank, nothing but a white expanse.
"I didn't catch up. The moment I went outside, he vanished," Xiao Yao Hao replied, astonished. It seemed he still didn't know enough about his brother. When had Xiao Yao Yu become so skilled? However, there was an interesting incident he had overheard from one of his subordinates, a Ghost Messenger. It involved a strange occurrence in a place inhabited by a minority group where a physician developed a drug capable of trapping a person's soul deep within their subconscious thoughts. This drug could cause individuals to lose themselves in their dreams within the most terrifying corners of their hearts, preventing their souls from escaping and leading to death through fear and panic due to the disconnection from their bodies.
Later on, because too many people died, the Underworld conducted some investigations. At that time, Xue hadn't paid much attention when he heard that the pharmacist was a Fallen Immortal who had sneaked into the human realm due to dissatisfaction with his punishment and practiced dark magic to enhance his powers using the souls of those who died in agony. He remembered that this Fallen Immortal had caused great trouble and was wanted by the court; it seemed he was struck down by the Thunder Lord and Thunder Mother’s numerous bolts of lightning.
Since so much time had passed, Xue had completely forgotten about it.
Looking at Yao Guang now, she resembled those affected by that drug back then. He no longer felt inclined to investigate how this drug ended up in Xiao Yao Yu's hands or how it was used on Yao Guang.
At that moment, Yao Guang, who had been lying quietly on the bed, suddenly displayed a look of sheer terror. Her hands gripped the edge of the bed tightly, revealing her immense pain.
"This is bad!" Xue exclaimed. It was clear that Yao Guang had plunged into the depths of her most fearful memories, and it was evident that she was terrified of something. If she couldn't overcome this fear, her soul might remain trapped in that place, endlessly reliving that terror until she slowly faded away.
Xue attempted to delve into Yao Guang's soul, but each time he tried, he was forcefully repelled by her own essence.
Watching Yao Guang grow increasingly distressed, Xue, who had always remained calm, began to feel anxious. If he didn't act soon, it seemed unlikely that Yao Guang could hold on much longer.
After a moment of contemplation, Xue made up his mind.
