Yama's Wedding
The two temporarily forgot about the matters of the void. Although there was some regret, life is often like that; just because something feels regrettable doesn't mean it can be perfected. As a spectator, Yao Guang's feelings could never compare to those of the person directly involved. No one understands the thoughts of those in the game better than the players themselves.
"You’re awake! I thought you... do you know you've been in there for three hours?" As soon as the door opened, Xiao Yao Hao's voice rang out.
It felt like it had been ages since Yao Guang last saw Xiao Yao Hao. Seeing him suddenly, Yao Guang thought he looked a bit thinner. Xiao Yao Hao, who usually wore neat clothes, now appeared slightly wrinkled, as if he hadn’t changed in a while. His eyes also showed signs of fatigue. It seemed that Xiao Yao Hao had been waiting outside their door for three hours; otherwise, how could he have appeared right when they came out, looking so worn out?
Seeing Xiao Yao Hao’s state warmed Yao Guang’s heart a little, even though he hadn’t liked him much before. Despite his usual unreliability, it was touching that he was worried about them at this moment. Yao Guang felt a bit more favorable toward Xiao Yao Hao.
“It’s nothing,” Xue said, holding Yao Guang’s hand.
Xiao Yao Hao was perceptive; noticing the change between the two, especially with Xue tightly holding Yao Guang's hand, he felt relieved. Young Master Xue truly was capable; after all, when he first saw Yao Guang, he had been barely breathing. In just three hours, he had brought a near-death person back to life before them. Clearly, his decision to seek help from Xue had been the right one. So, Xiao Yao Hao smiled and said, “It seems this incident hasn’t posed any difficulties for Young Master Xue; on the contrary, it has brought you and your wife closer together.”
Xiao Yao Hao's teasing made Yao Guang blush. Just as he was about to retort, Xue interjected, “Yes, this incident turned out quite well.” He even touched his lips.
Xue's comment left both of them wide-eyed. As Yao Guang recalled Xue’s gesture, he felt even more embarrassed and couldn’t bring himself to look up, his mind racing back to their two kisses in the illusion. Xiao Yao Hao clearly hadn’t expected that his teasing would backfire on him; instead of making fun of them, he found himself feeling awkward because of Xue’s obvious actions that hinted at what they had done inside. He had been outside all this time and hadn’t heard anything.
Xue felt differently from the other two; he experienced a sweet sensation. Seeing Yao Guang blushing because of his words filled him with joy. He wanted to express himself freely and do whatever he pleased; it had been so long since he felt this way. He had suppressed himself for too long while witnessing all those lovesick individuals along the way. He learned to cherish those around him; encountering someone like Yao Guang who cared for him was rare. Why should he continue to suppress himself? This feeling was unfamiliar yet not unwelcome; why not let things unfold naturally?
“Alright, alright! You two haven’t eaten anything and must be hungry by now. I’ve had the servants prepare food just in case you got hungry. Let’s go eat,” Xiao Yao Hao finally couldn’t stand watching them any longer. One was blushing and looking down like a shy bride while the other seemed lost in thought altogether. The only thing they shared was an expression that radiated enviable sweetness. Xiao Yao Hao could only remind them; otherwise, he feared he might choke on his own frustration since his own issues with Liu Qing remained unresolved.
Yao Guang and Xue finally remembered they had come out to fill their stomachs. Thanks to Xiao Yao Hao’s reminder, they snapped back to reality.
The three made their way to the dining hall. Xiao Yao Hao felt utterly exasperated; after waiting so long for them to emerge, they were now acting like this—Yao Guang and Xue held each other’s hands tightly and gazed deeply into each other’s eyes while ignoring everything around them—even the path beneath their feet went unnoticed, let alone paying any attention to Xiao Yao Hao behind them. Walking behind them made Xiao Yao Hao wish he could throw them both out of the villa. Of course, at that moment, Xue and Yao Guang completely ignored Xiao Yao Hao's disgruntled expression.
“Can you two at least look at me now? Can you tell me what happened?” Finally reaching their destination, Xiao Yao Hao quickly spoke up before they overlooked him again.
This time, Yao Guang and Xue heard Xiao Yao Hao's words and felt a bit embarrassed. In front of him, Yao Guang shyly withdrew his hand from Xue’s grasp and focused on the food laid out before them.
With the warmth of Yao Guang’s hand gone from his own, Xue shot an annoyed glance at Xiao Yao Hao. Underneath the pressure of Xue's gaze, Xiao Yao Hao bravely continued speaking despite knowing it might be unwise: “You two are so wrapped up in your own sweetness that you should think about me too.”
“What do we need to think about you for? Are you Master Xiaoyao or something? A beauty so stunning we can’t eat or drink?”
"Poof!" Yao Guang heard this and immediately sprayed the food she had just put in her mouth, unfortunately hitting Xiao Yao Hao, who was sitting in front of her, right in the face. At that moment, Xiao Yao Hao's expression turned completely dark.
"Hahaha, I really didn't mean to!" Yao Guang laughed so hard that tears streamed down her face, rolling around in Xue's embrace.
"You... you all, hmph." Xiao Yao Hao wanted to be angry but couldn't help but feel unlucky for encountering such a couple. He sighed, accepting the handkerchief offered by the maid with a dark expression, noticing the maid's twitching lips out of the corner of his eye.
"You all can leave now," Xiao Yao Hao said after wiping his face clean.
Xue helped Yao Guang rub her belly.
Once the servants had left in an orderly manner, Xiao Yao Hao's expression turned serious. "Young Master Xue, are you ready now?"
Xue helped Yao Guang up and began to recount what had happened to him and Yao Guang in the illusion. Of course, he omitted any mention of the Void and their experiences together within it.
"So that's how it is. I never expected that a single pill could pull someone into another space," Xiao Yao Hao remarked after listening to Xue. He had no doubts about Xue's words; this world was vast and full of wonders. From his readings in Xiaoyao Pavilion, he knew that this land was not limited to what they currently understood; many mysterious forces were beyond their knowledge.
Yao Guang was unaware that Xiao Yao Hao had read these books. She admired his calmness in the face of such bizarre events; he truly deserved to be called the Master of Xiao Yao Villa.
Xiao Yao Hao felt an inexplicable sense of respect from Yao Guang's gaze. Although he didn't understand why her attitude towards him had suddenly become friendly, he still returned her a smile.
"Xiao Yao Hao, do you think Xiao Yao Yu has any connections with some mysterious organizations in the martial world?" Xue asked.
After hearing Xue's question, Xiao Yao Hao replied, "Before you all came out, I had someone investigate Xiao Yao Yu. However, the results were inconclusive. My brother has been weak since childhood; our father forbade him from practicing martial arts while he was alive. Although practicing martial arts can strengthen one's body, my brother's frail condition made it too burdensome for him. Yet during our last encounter with him, his skills were not something someone could achieve without over ten years of training. He has lived in the villa all these years; if he practiced secretly, someone would surely know about it. Moreover, his martial arts style is not from Xiao Yao Villa at all. Not to mention how he could contact people outside while living here."
Xiao Yao Hao's words left both Xue and Yao Guang deep in thought. According to what Xiao Yao Hao said, if that were true, how did Xiao Yao Yu manage to cultivate such profound martial arts? While they might not understand worldly martial arts fully, both Xue and Yao Guang knew that mastering such skills wasn't something one could achieve overnight; profound martial arts required decades of relentless practice to attain success. So how did Xiao Yao Yu secretly develop skills comparable to those of the trained Xiao Yao Hao?
"Have you found Xiao Yao Yu yet?" Yao Guang asked.
"Although we lost track of him that day, someone later saw him in a town at the foot of the mountain. This means he hasn't left here; I believe his goals haven't been achieved yet and he will definitely reappear," Xiao Yao Hao stated confidently.
Xue agreed with this point; after plotting such a grand scheme, Xiao Yao Yu wouldn't leave so easily. However, they still had no idea what exactly Xiao Yao Yu intended to do.
"We'll wait here at the villa; Xiao Yao Yu will surely return to gather information. We'll wait for him here," Xue said slowly as he discussed plans with Xiao Yao Hao.
By the time the two had finished their discussion, Xiao Yao Hao came to his senses and realized that Yao Guang had unknowingly fallen asleep at the table.
"Xue, are you there...?" Xiao Yao Hao asked, astonished that this woman could sleep so soundly. Looking at the peacefully slumbering Yao Guang, he couldn't believe that someone with such extraordinary abilities—like seeing ghosts—could waste her talents in such a way.
"Shh." Xue made a gesture for silence.
Seeing this, Xiao Yao Hao wisely stepped outside. He quietly closed the door behind him, deciding it was best to focus on getting things done here so he could meet Liu Qing sooner. In truth, he envied the two inside; with a sigh, he turned and left.
Yao Guang was sleeping soundly. Did she really let her guard down around him? It seemed she never worried as long as he was nearby. It was as if she believed that wherever he was, everything would be fine. This girl truly relied on him too much.
"I really like you, Xue," Yao Guang suddenly murmured in her sleep, startling Xue who thought he had woken her up. But after saying those words, she merely smacked her lips and continued sleeping soundly.
Perhaps he had been mistaken earlier. Xue chuckled softly; this girl wasn't just overly dependent on him—she must be deeply in love with him!
Watching Yao Guang's serene expression, Xue couldn't bring himself to disturb her. She must have been exhausted from their recent ordeal in the illusion; she hadn't slept well at all. He leaned against the table opposite her, admiring her peaceful slumber.
Eventually, when Xiao Yao Hao finished his tasks and pushed open the door, he was met with the sight of the two of them sleeping sweetly together. Internally, he cursed himself for working so hard while they enjoyed their rest.
Despite his thoughts, Xiao Yao Hao quietly closed the door again, allowing them to sleep peacefully.
