Yama's Wedding
Liu Qing witnessed everything, the sight of Xiao Yao Yu drenched in blood was clear before her eyes. No one saw the momentary pallor on Liu Qing's face, which mirrored Xiao Yao Yu's ashen visage from blood loss.
It wasn't fear or shock; in that instant, Liu Qing recalled all the memories she had lost!
She remembered who she truly was, her past life, and how she had died!
The pain from Roux's many betrayals had already made Liu Qing's heart ache, but now these memories truly made her understand what it meant to suffer to the depths of despair.
Xiao Yao Hao held Xiao Yao Yu's lifeless body right in front of Liu Qing. Yet, the distance felt like it spanned thousands of miles. Liu Qing stood there in a daze, grateful that Xiao Yao Hao couldn't see her. His sorrow at this moment was not for himself but for another's death. What had it been like when she died? Had he felt this same profound sadness for her as he did now for Xiao Yao Yu?
“Hao, have you ever thought of me?” Liu Qing's voice echoed behind Xiao Yao Hao, but he couldn't hear it. This question would go unanswered, dissipating into the wind.
Liu Qing stepped forward, slowly crouching down and reaching out to embrace Xiao Yao Hao. Let me deceive myself just a little longer, she thought. Hao, even now, I still can't forget you, despite how much pain you’ve caused me.
The night was chilly; Xiao Yao Yu's body was growing cold. It wasn't just his body that was freezing; Xiao Yao Hao's heart was too. He had finally lost everyone. Looking around, there was no one left who loved him or whom he loved waiting for him to come home. His home was truly gone.
The man's deep sobs echoed through the tranquil villa. Xiao Yao Hao's suppressed cries made Liu Qing hold him tighter. She looked at this grieving man and wished to warm him, but no matter how tightly she embraced him, she could never bring him warmth again.
Xiao Yao Hao cradled Xiao Yao Yu's corpse; slowly, his heart felt numb to the pain. Over the years, how many bodies had these hands held? Liu Qing had died in his arms as if it were just yesterday, yet it also felt like an eternity ago. He had forgotten how he had lived through those days; it seemed like only a year had passed since that fateful event. Liu Qing, I miss you so much; I truly miss you!
The two remained together as the night passed.
In the early morning, Liu Qing arrived at Yao Guang’s door just as Xue came to wake him up.
Xue looked at the awkwardly standing Liu Qing and asked, “What brings you here?”
"Yama, please allow me to meet with Xiao Yao Hao," Liu Qing said as she knelt before Xue, making her request.
Xue was somewhat surprised. Looking at Liu Qing kneeling in front of him, he noticed that she seemed a bit different from yesterday. He was taken aback by her request; Liu Qing had previously been unwilling to meet Xiao Yao Hao, yet now she was actively seeking him out. What could have changed?
"Since you wish to meet Xiao Yao Hao, I will naturally grant your request," Xue began, but his words were interrupted when Yao Guang's door suddenly swung open.
"Xue, what were you just saying?" Yao Guang had already woken up inside and overheard Xue speaking outside. Upon opening the door, she saw Liu Qing kneeling before Xue and instantly forgot what she had intended to ask.
"Liu Qing, what are you doing? Get up!" Yao Guang hurriedly helped Liu Qing to her feet. "You can just speak normally. Liu Qing, what is this all about?" After assisting Liu Qing, Yao Guang turned back to Xue and complained, "Why would you let Liu Qing kneel before you? Can't you just talk to her normally?" Xue could only listen helplessly as Yao Guang scolded him; it wasn't his fault that Liu Qing was kneeling.
Liu Qing interrupted Yao Guang's tirade with a smile. "Yama didn't force me; I have something to ask him."
Yao Guang's anger didn't dissipate with Liu Qing's words. "But you don't need to kneel before him! Xue, even if Liu Qing has a request, can't you see that she should be standing?"
Yao Guang's furious demeanor made Liu Qing chuckle. "Oh, Yao Guang, don't take it too seriously. I guess you're the only one brave enough to scold Yama like that."
"Liu Qing..." Yao Guang felt embarrassed as she realized she had been scolding Xue in front of Liu Qing. Suddenly aware of her blushing face, she glanced at Xue and noticed that he bore no signs of displeasure or anger; instead, he looked at her with a fond smile. This made Yao Guang feel even more shy. In that moment, seeing Liu Qing like that had made her impulsive; now she regretted not being able to help Liu Qing when she considered her a friend.
"Yao Guang."
"What is it?" Liu Qing hesitated, making Yao Guang anxious. Something seemed different about Liu Qing. Although she had lost her memory before, when Yao Guang saw her then, there was often a look of confusion in her eyes mixed with joy. Liu Qing was someone who knew how to find happiness for herself; even without communication, she would often play with the animals in the back mountains. But now, Yao Guang noticed that there was sadness in Liu Qing's eyes. What used to be bright was now shrouded in a thick veil that concealed all her previous joy.
"Yao Guang, I remember now. I remember everything." Liu Qing's words shocked both Yao Guang and Xue. Yao Guang's mind echoed with Liu Qing's statement as she excitedly grabbed her arm and asked, "You really remember? Everything?"
In contrast to Yao Guang's excitement, Xue was surprised but managed to remain calm. No wonder he had sensed something different about Liu Qing earlier; it turned out she had regained her memories. He could only imagine how painful this recovery must have been for her and understood why she had requested to meet Xiao Yao Hao.
At this moment, Yao Guang wasn't thinking as much as Xue had anticipated; she was still immersed in the joy of Liu Qing regaining her memories, hoping that Liu Qing would give her a clear answer.
"Yes, I remember now. I remember everything." Liu Qing hadn't expected Yao Guang to react so strongly upon learning that she had regained her memories. Initially, those heavy memories hadn't brought Liu Qing much joy, but seeing Yao Guang so happy for her warmed her heart. She realized that perhaps those memories weren't as painful as she had thought. Her life wasn't solely filled with bad memories; there were also joyful and beautiful moments.
"Liu Qing, have you made up your mind?" Although she didn't want to disrupt the current atmosphere, Liu Qing's time was running out, and Xue could only ask.
"What matter?" Yao Guang was still in a state of confusion.
"I just asked the King of Hell to let me meet Xiao Yao Hao," Liu Qing explained.
Now it made sense. Yao Guang recalled that when she had come out, the two of them were talking; it seemed this was the matter at hand. She looked at Liu Qing with some concern. "Have you thought it through?"
Liu Qing smiled at Yao Guang. She knew that Yao Guang was worried about her, but what Yao Guang didn't realize was that she would no longer experience any reincarnation. This lifetime's memories would be her last, and the person she loved in this life would be her final love. There would be no next life, no knowledge of past lives; for her, there was only this life.
"Yes," Liu Qing nodded affirmatively.
"Then let's go find Xiao Yao Hao," Yao Guang said. Since this was Liu Qing's own wish, she would comply.
The three of them walked toward Xiao Yao Hao's room. As Liu Qing gazed ahead on the path, she had never felt such peace before. Finally, they would meet!
