Yama's Wedding
"Two, settle the bill." Yao Guang had never disagreed with Xue's decisions, especially when it came to the possibility of a Soul Gathering Lantern. Although she didn't know what the Soul Gathering Lantern was for, since Xue was so formidable, especially when it benefited her, she naturally wouldn't give up on this hope. She didn't want to disappear from this world before even enjoying a few good days with Xue. Moreover, even if there was something unusual in the forest, it was just a bunch of ghosts; what kind of trouble could they cause in front of the King of Hell? With Xue by her side, she felt fearless.
"Alright, esteemed guest." The attendant rushed over and collected the silver from Yao Guang. Looking at the two of them, he asked, "Esteemed guests, you’re not planning to go into that forest, are you?"
"Yes, why not? Why don't you come in with us?" Yao Guang teased the attendant.
"No, no! I don't want to go! Esteemed guests, I can't! It's not clean in there! Why would you two go in and seek death?" The attendant waved his hands repeatedly and took a few steps back in fear.
The attendant's reaction was simply too funny. Yao Guang was about to say more when she noticed that Xue had already stood up and started walking away. Seeing this, Yao Guang hurriedly followed after Xue.
From a distance, they could still hear the attendant shouting behind them, "Esteemed guests, don’t go! Hurry back!"
"Hahaha! Did you see that attendant's face just now? It was hilarious!" Yao Guang laughed so hard she could barely stand upright as she turned to Xue.
Xue glanced at Yao Guang with an expressionless face and then continued striding ahead.
What was wrong with Xue? Was she angry? Yao Guang scratched her head in confusion; what had suddenly happened?
"Xue, wait for me! Wait for me!" Yao Guang could only run to catch up with Xue.
"Why are you walking so fast? You're exhausting me!" After finally catching up with Xue and grabbing hold of her arm, Yao Guang was panting heavily. What was going on? Just a moment ago everything seemed fine!
Xue stopped in her tracks, turned around, and leaned down to kiss Yao Guang directly.
Unlike before, this time Xue wasn't gentle; she bit down slightly on Yao Guang's lips. Yao Guang even felt pain from it. Instinctively wanting to push Xue away, she didn't expect that her resistance would only provoke Xue to bite harder. Xue ld onto Yao Guang tightly, making it impossible for her to break free. Unable to escape, Yao Guang had no choice but to accept Xue's roughness. Sensing Yao Guang's submission, Xue softened her movements a little but still retained a hint of dominance.
What on earth was happening with Xue? Yao Guang felt dazed from the kiss but still managed to think clearly; this was clearly punishment from Xue.
It wasn't until both of them were breathless that Xue finally ended the kiss and released Yao Guang. At that moment, Yao Guang could barely stand and had to lean against Xue's embrace while gasping for air. Seeing Yao Guang's lips reddened from the kiss made Xue feel a twinge of pain inside; she had acted impulsively but was indeed quite angry.
"Does it hurt?" Xue's slender fingers gently caressed Yao Guang's luscious lips.
"Why didn't you lighten your steps just now? Now you're asking yourself how to answer," Yao Guang thought bitterly to herself. However, on the surface, Yao Guang was no fool; she could clearly see that Xue was angry, and she had no intention of confronting him at this moment. "Just a little, and you don't even know to be gentle," she thought, playing the part of the obedient one.
This Yao Guang truly had no way to deal with him. Even though she had been somewhat angry before, that anger had dissipated. Still, she felt the need to teach him a lesson and see if he would dare act like this again in the future.
"Were you very happy just now?" Xue asked as he lifted Yao Guang's chin.
"What?" Yao Guang looked confused, which only fueled Xue's impulse. He reminded himself to hold back; the matter wasn't resolved yet. Steadying his emotions, he continued, "I saw you chatting quite happily with that guy."
That guy? Yao Guang's mind took a moment to catch up. She noticed the growing fire in Xue's eyes and felt a shiver run down her spine.
Could it be that Xue was...
"Xue, are you jealous?" Yao Guang blurted out what she was thinking.
Xue's face immediately turned unnatural as he released Yao Guang and turned his back to her. "Ahem, I just think you seem to enjoy teasing that guy. You two were having such a good time chatting."
Now Yao Guang fully understood; Xue was clearly jealous.
"Xue, you really are jealous! Just admit it," she said as she stepped in front of him, now able to see clearly that there was a faint blush on his face.
Xue looked so adorable like this. She had only teased that guy a little, yet Xue was actually getting jealous. This awkward side of him was something Yao Guang had never seen before; it was simply too cute.
"Hahaha, Xue, you look so... hilarious! Hahaha, it's just too adorable!" Yao Guang laughed until tears nearly streamed down her face.
Seeing Yao Guang rolling on the ground with laughter made it hard for Xue to maintain his composure. "Hmph." He waved his sleeve dismissively and walked away without looking back at her.
He was embarrassed. Xue was just too cute! How had she never noticed this side of him before? It seemed she still didn't know him well enough. For some reason, she found herself liking this version of Xue even more than the cold one; it added a touch of warmth to his demeanor. In truth, she liked every side of him.
As Xue walked further away, he could still hear Yao Guang's laughter. Noticing she hadn't caught up yet, he gradually slowed his pace.
"Xue, wait for me!"
Hearing Yao Guang's voice catching up to him made Xue quicken his steps again.
"Slow down. I can barely keep up." Yao Guang had just laughed too excitedly, exhausting all her energy, and now she was struggling to catch up with Xue.
Xue glanced back and gradually adjusted his pace.
After a few back-and-forth exchanges, Yao Guang realized that Xue was just being stubborn, neither letting her catch up nor allowing her to fall too far behind. Understanding his intentions, Yao Guang decided not to chase him anymore and walked leisurely behind him. Sure enough, Xue also slowed down, but he still maintained a certain distance from her.
Walking behind him, Yao Guang felt sweet inside despite not being able to catch up. She hadn't expected Xue to care about her so much; even a few words exchanged with someone else could make him jealous. Although his behavior was quite adorable, she reminded herself to be cautious in the future. Occasionally teasing like this could add some spice to their relationship, but overdoing it might lead to misunderstandings. She silently warned herself.
Xue walked ahead, keeping an eye on Yao Guang. He knew she wasn't really trying hard to catch up with him, but whenever he sensed her slowing down, he couldn't help but want to stop and wait for her. The anger he had felt earlier was long forgotten. He was fully aware of how Yao Guang treated him; while others might not see it clearly, he understood perfectly. This girl likely cared for him more than anyone else did. He had spoiled her so much that now she followed him leisurely, knowing he would never abandon her.
What was there to be angry about? It turned out that Yao Guang occupied a significant place in his heart—perhaps more than he realized. He had been too angry earlier and didn't consider whether his fast pace might have harmed her. He decided to slow down a bit more, hoping she would catch up.
Meanwhile, Yao Guang had no idea what he was thinking. When she saw him slow down, she matched his pace as well. Now both of them were walking at a speed comparable to that of a turtle.
Yao Guang quietly wondered if Xue had walked too fast earlier and needed a break. So she decided to slow down even more, keeping her distance to allow him some time to rest.
If Xue knew what Yao Guang was thinking, it would probably infuriate him. Normally quite clever, how could she be so foolish at such a crucial moment?
Thus, the two of them continued on their way—one in front and one behind—maintaining their turtle-like speed as they ventured deeper into the forest.
