Yama's Wedding
Jun Ruo pondered in the village, feeling a bit uneasy. Taking advantage of the early hour, she decided to visit the place where the steward was held.
As soon as she entered, she saw the steward grimacing as he cleaned his wounds.
“How are you?” Jun Ruo asked, observing the steward's condition.
“You, you, what are you doing here?” The steward turned around and, upon seeing Jun Ruo, was so startled that he could barely speak. The memory of what she had done to him still haunted him, and the pain from his facial wounds lingered.
“Don’t be nervous. I just have a few things I want to confirm with you. As long as you answer me honestly, I won’t cause you any trouble,” Jun Ruo said casually as she sat down in the room. There were some matters she needed to clarify.
“I-I will tell you everything honestly,” the steward stammered.
Seeing the steward’s submissive demeanor, Jun Ruo felt a sense of satisfaction. It seemed her earlier punishment had instilled fear in him. Fear would lead to mistakes, and with mistakes, many things would be revealed. She could obtain some of the information she sought.
“When will Hu Qing arrive?” Jun Ruo fixed her gaze on the steward.
“In a few days,” he replied, unable to meet her eyes and lowering his head as he spoke.
“I need a specific time; I want accurate information,” Jun Ruo insisted, looking intently at him.
“In just a few days…” The steward’s voice grew quieter under Jun Ruo’s piercing gaze until he could barely finish his sentence.
"Take your time, I'm not in a hurry," Jun Ruo said slowly to the butler, not believing a word he had just said.
Although Jun Ruo's tone was casual, the butler felt a shiver run down his spine; he clearly understood the threat in her voice.
"At ten past noon, the master will disguise himself as a passerby and come through here," the butler quickly finished his sentence, feeling guilty towards his master.
"That's more like it. Since you've provided such useful information, I'll let you off the hook this time," Jun Ruo said, satisfied with the news she had received. She walked out of the butler's room and instructed the guards outside, "Make sure to keep a close watch on him; he must not escape."
As Jun Ruo's figure disappeared from sight, the butler collapsed onto the ground. Even if he managed to survive and return, he would have no face left to see his master. The head of the family, a young girl, was far more ruthless than some of those in the criminal justice system.
Jun Ruo was pleased with the information she had obtained and stepped out happily.
In recent days, Jun Ruo's dreams continued, no longer repeating the same scenes. Instead, they were filled with experiences shared with a man. Each time she reached this part of her dream, she felt both happy and bittersweet. Although she still couldn't clearly see the man's face, she was gradually able to make out some details. When she woke up, she remembered that there was a mole in the center of his palm.
Looking at the mole in her own left palm, she realized that his was on his right hand.
Was this a coincidence? It seemed that she might truly be experiencing youthful feelings lately. Although she sensed something strange about these dreams, Jun Ruo did not wish to uncover their secrets.
Her grandmother used to say that in life, it was essential not to be overly curious about everything if one wanted to live long. Jun Ruo had always taken this saying as her guiding principle.
Regarding this matter, Jun Ruo thought it best not to be too curious. Whatever was meant to happen in the future would come in due time; it was better not to dwell on it too much.
With that thought in mind, Jun Ruo quickly pushed this matter out of her mind. (To be continued.)
