Yao Guang collapsed to the ground, her heart-wrenching cries having drained all her strength.
Watching Yao Guang, who sat on the ground crying, Xue looked at her with concern.
Yao Guang had not regained her true form as the Star Lord for long, and during her time in the lower realm, her soul had already suffered significant damage. Now, after such a heavy blow, it seemed her soul was showing signs of fracturing again.
This was not good. Although Yao Guang had now returned to her true form, the flickering star soul was still quite important for them as Star Lords.
"Have you two finished chatting?" The Dragon Lord, who had already healed from his earlier injuries, addressed Yao Guang and Xue.
He had been quietly listening for quite a while; it turned out to be just a tale of love and enmity between these two.
It was clear that this fellow cared quite a bit for the girl. But so what? The Dragon Lord felt no stirring in his heart. Rather than listening to their sentimental exchanges, he would prefer they stand up and fight him; that would be much more entertaining.
"If you’re done, step aside," the Dragon Lord said bluntly to Xue.
His current goal was simply to deal with those in the courtyard. This person before him seemed to bear the mark of Buddha, so he decided to let him off for now. After all, Buddha was not someone to be trifled with; in certain situations, he could be even more troublesome than the Jade Emperor. Buddha's greatest flaw was his fierce protectiveness.
Since this person bore Buddha's mark, it was clear that Buddha held him in high regard. Thus, he preferred not to stir up trouble. However, the remaining Star Lord before him was someone he had to eliminate without fail; there was no way he could leave any roots behind.
Since these Star Lords were leading the charge against him, it meant that the Jade Emperor must have high expectations of them. Therefore, he needed to make an example of one of them.
Seeing the Dragon Lord's demeanor, Xue realized he seemed ready to strike at Yao Guang. Without hesitation, he turned and stood in front of Yao Guang, blocking the Dragon Lord's gaze.
Yao Guang had lost all sense of self after such a series of devastating blows; she sat blankly on the ground without even glancing at Xue.
Yao Guang had never imagined that someone she had loved for so many years would turn out to be an accomplice in causing her loss. Now she didn’t know how to face Xue. But how could she take revenge for her grievances?
"What’s wrong? You should consider it an honor that I’m letting you off the hook. Now hurry up and get out of my way!" The Dragon Lord glared at Xue, his irritation evident. If it weren't for the Western Buddha's influence, he wouldn't have wasted so many words on Xue.
Xue stood stubbornly in front of Yao Guang, unmoving despite the Dragon Lord's words. He had already left Yao Guang behind, but he could never abandon her at this moment. Even if his companions hadn’t instructed him to stay, he would still stand before Yao Guang to shield her from all storms.
Seeing Xue's defiance only fueled the Dragon Lord's anger. The younger generation was becoming increasingly reckless.
He had intended to let Xue go, but now it seemed he was determined to walk down a path of destruction. He couldn't be blamed for being rude anymore.
"Listen, I’ll warn you one last time. Are you going to step aside or not?" The Dragon Lord huffed, his breath hot with fury directed at Xue.
Xue remained firmly in front of Yao Guang, though he turned his head to face her.
"Yao Guang, I was wrong!" He shouldn’t have deceived her or agreed to his companions' demands. The current situation was indeed his fault. He had promised Yao Guang that he wouldn’t lie to her, yet here he was, deceiving her about something so significant.
Yao Guang remained lost in her thoughts, not even lifting her head.
For a long time afterward, she regretted not having looked up at Xue. How could she have let herself be so blinded by anger? None of this was truly his fault. Yet in that moment, she had foolishly placed all the blame on him. No matter how much he pleaded with her, she seemed to forget the bond they once shared. She must have lost all reason to treat the person she once loved so dearly in such a way.
Xue felt a deep pain as he watched Yao Guang ignore him. When had she begun treating him like this? He was used to seeing her smile at him warmly. Now, her coldness was unbearable! Who could he blame for this? Only himself.
Turning away from Yao Guang, he tried to ease the ache in his heart.
"If you seek death, then don’t blame me!"
The Dragon Lord opened his mouth and unleashed a torrent of flames aimed at Xue and Yao Guang.
Yao Guang stared blankly at the flames before her. She didn’t even feel the urge to dodge; she would let the fire take her away. Perhaps turning to ash in this blaze would allow her to reunite with her family in the dust of this earth. In that case, they would finally be together again.
Xue watched as the flames erupted from the Dragon Lord’s mouth, feeling an intense heat wash over him. It was the Three Flavors True Fire. He hadn’t expected the Dragon Lord to have mastered it already. This fire could incinerate everything in existence, leaving nothing behind.
Xue hurriedly unleashed the ghostly energy surrounding him to counter the Three Flavors True Fire.
Fortunately, the Three Flavors True Fire was a manifestation of pure Yang, while the ghostly energy he wielded was pure Yin, making them opposites. For now, neither Xue nor Yao Guang was in any immediate danger.
The Dragon Lord observed Xue's ghostly energy and was surprised to find that someone he initially thought to be from the West had connections to the Underworld as well. This development posed a bit of a problem.
However, since his emergence into the world, he had never feared anyone. After all, this was just a child with ties to both the West and the Underworld. Could he really be afraid of him?
Moreover, this ghostly energy was indeed an effective counter to his Three Flavors True Fire. It seemed that Xue was a talent worth nurturing, not unworthy of the mark left on him by West and the Underworld.
The Dragon Lord grew curious about how someone from West and the Underworld could be associated with Star Lord. Looking at Xue's appearance, it was evident that he held deep feelings for Star Lord Yao Guang, which seemed genuine.
Xue's forehead began to bead with sweat; after all, facing the Dragon Lord alone with his current power was quite a strain. However, he could not afford to retreat, especially with Yao Guang behind him.
"Child, I wonder how much longer you can hold out?" The Dragon Lord remarked leisurely as he watched Xue struggle. His own power had yet to be fully unleashed.
Xue gritted his teeth and fought desperately against the searing heat of the Three Flavors True Fire.
The Dragon Lord opened his mouth and intensified the flames. The fire surged toward Xue.
As cracks appeared in Xue's defenses, in that fleeting moment, flames rushed through those gaps and struck him directly.
Realizing the danger, Xue quickly withdrew his ghostly energy and opened up his space. In an instant, all of the Dragon Lord's flames were absorbed into Xue's space. It was as if the previous scene had never occurred; the flames vanished without a trace.
"You do have some skill!" The Dragon Lord praised Xue upon seeing his flames extinguished.
It seemed this child truly possessed potential recognized by both West and the Underworld.
However, what the Dragon Lord did not know was that at this moment, Xue's internal organs were being scorched by the Three Flavors True Fire. Although he had just managed to contain it within his space, that space was originally created by Xue himself.
Everything within the space was felt by Xue. The Three Flavors True Fire was raging within his realm, not only burning the space filled with blood but also igniting the very essence of Xue's body.
Clenching his teeth, Xue showed no signs of discomfort on his face. He merely smiled and said to the Dragon Lord, "Xue is deeply honored to receive such praise from you, Dragon Lord!"
"Hahaha! Then I want to see how many of my moves you can withstand!"
The Dragon Lord arrogantly directed his attention towards Xue, unleashing a torrent of lightning that surged towards Xue and Yao Guang.
Xue noticed that this bolt of lightning was even more blinding than the light within it. He immediately extended his hand, guiding the lightning to his fingertips before pressing them against the ground. A sizzling sound echoed as the earth beneath him cracked and splintered from the force of the lightning.
The Dragon Lord watched in astonishment as Xue executed this maneuver. He had not expected anyone to be able to control lightning as he did. What was even more remarkable was that this individual did not directly confront the lightning; instead, he redirected it elsewhere, proving to be an ingenious strategy.
This approach not only avoided harm but also rendered the opponent's attack ineffective. The Dragon Lord couldn't help but admire him inwardly.
Xue was equally surprised to discover that the Dragon Lord had also mastered multiple disciplines. No wonder his companions had to burn their Starlight just to contend with this formidable foe. The Dragon Lord was indeed a challenging opponent.
The Dragon Lord gazed at Xue with a look of intrigue, realizing that in such a short time since his emergence, he had encountered two fascinating adversaries. It was unfortunate that Shu Xing Jun had exhausted all his energy so quickly; however, he believed that this person before him would not disappoint.
"How interesting! No wonder you are valued by both the West and the Underworld. Now let’s see how well you can entertain me!" The Dragon Lord exclaimed excitedly at Xue. (To be continued.)
