Yama's Wedding
Xue transformed back into his original form, and a warm, gentle aura radiated from him, alleviating the intense heat that enveloped everyone present.
Xue's body gradually reverted to the Golden Wheels. All around, people were immersed in this peaceful and serene atmosphere. The pain from the flames that had once scorched them began to fade away.
At that moment, Yao Guang was also wrapped in this familiar sensation. Within this warm aura, she seemed to hear Xue softly bidding her farewell right next to her ear.
"Yao Guang, I should be very happy, right? In this lifetime, I have lived for so long, but it was only when I met you that I truly felt joy. Although our time together in the mortal realm was brief—just a year—it was the happiest year of my life. Deceiving you was something I had to do. I thought it was for your own good, but in the end, I only hurt you. Thank you for holding on so steadfastly, allowing me to meet you and experience such beauty. Thank you for always being so forgiving. Yao Guang, you must live well; I will always be by your side!"
Yao Guang lifted her dazed eyes and witnessed a scene that tore at her heart.
Xue had already transformed into the Golden Wheels and charged into the boundless flames with tremendous force.
The Dragon Lord looked at Xue with disdainful laughter.
"Just another Wheel of Reincarnation. Let’s see how I can destroy it completely."
The Golden Wheels that Xue had become were even more powerful than the Wheels of Reincarnation he had released moments ago.
The Dragon Lord expanded his flames exponentially, and even Yao Guang, who was within the protective barrier, could feel the searing heat.
"Don't!!!!"
With Yao Guang's anguished cry, Xue had already fully charged into the flames.
Before losing consciousness completely, Xue ard Yao Guang's voice.
This might be the last sound belonging to Yao Guang that he would ever hear! Please don’t be so sad; it would break my heart! Xue thought amidst a sea of golden light. Then he lost all awareness. Yao Guang would forgive him, wouldn’t she?
The Golden Wheels surged through the flames, striking directly at the heart of the Dragon Lord.
The Dragon Lord looked down in shock at his heart, which had once been lively and vibrant. Now, embedded within it were two Golden Wheels. The Wheel of Reincarnation spun rapidly, churning his heart to nothingness. The gaping wound, large enough to fit a bowl, served as a grim reminder that the Dragon Lord's heart was completely gone.
Then, an immense pain surged through him.
He had never experienced such agony before; since the day he was born, he had never known suffering. This excruciating pain felt like his heart was being ripped out, and the Dragon Lord could hardly bear it. His massive body thrashed about in the mist, struggling and writhing, while cries of torment escaped his lips.
Yet the Golden Wheel continued to spin within him, inflicting a different kind of pain than what Shu Xing Jun had caused earlier.
The Dragon Lord attempted to use his magic to heal his wounds. However, the speed at which he could mend himself was far outpaced by the destruction wrought by the Wheel of Reincarnation. Spectators watched in disbelief as the wound in the heart of the Dragon Army healed and tore apart repeatedly, healing and tearing again. The agony was unimaginable.
Eventually, the pain became unbearable for the Dragon Lord, and his magic could no longer keep up with the devastation caused by the Golden Wheels.
As blood flowed from his heart and covered his massive body, this golden dragon finally succumbed to exhaustion. With a thunderous crash, he fell to the ground.
The golden dragon hit the ground with a resounding thud. The earth beneath him had already been scorched by his flames, barren and cracked. Under such pressure, it shattered into pieces.
The once beautiful golden scales were now broken and battered, resembling shattered tiles. It was known that dragon scales were among the hardest materials; now, however, it seemed that beneath those scales, the flesh had also been grievously wounded by the Golden Wheels. What lay beneath was anyone's guess.
Yao Guang finally snapped back to reality upon witnessing this mutual destruction. The sight of Xue reminded her of how her companions had sacrificed themselves to protect her. Everything around her faded into darkness as she gathered her strength and stumbled forward. Moments ago, Yao Guang had tried to break through the protective barrier set by the Dragon Lord but found herself unable to escape. Now that barrier seemed ineffective as she passed through it effortlessly; clearly, its master had lost all power.
Yao Guang approached the fallen Dragon Lord and saw him lying on the ground with closed eyes and barely a breath left—he appeared lifeless.
From where his heart once was rolled out a pair of Golden Wheels. The once brilliant Wheel of Reincarnation had absorbed all of the Dragon Lord's flames during their struggle and had dulled from its golden glow to a muted gray. That grayish hue seemed devoid of any life force.
Ignoring the heat emanating from the Wheel of Reincarnation, Yao Guang grasped it tightly in her arms.
"Xue, Xue!"
Why treat oneself this way? Did she do something wrong? Why must she endure this? She had already witnessed her Brothers disappear before her eyes, and now was it Xue's turn?
The temperature of the Wheel of Reincarnation in her hands was terrifyingly high, yet Yao Guang held on tightly without fear. Soon, the skin that touched the Wheel of Reincarnation was blistered, leaving marks on her hands and body.
"Ahhhhh!"
Yao Guang cried out in pain.
She truly was a harbinger of doom! Those deities were right to despise her. All she brought was misfortune; nothing else. But why was she destined to be Star Lord Yao Guang? Everyone else was a Greedy Wolf, while Yao Guang was meant to live! Yet what had she really done? Aside from worrying her loved ones and family, she had done nothing. She only knew how to hide behind them and enjoy their protection.
And now, not only had her Brothers died because of her, but even Xue had suffered because of her actions. If it weren't for her, Xue would have been fine in the Underworld as one of the Ten Kings of Hell. He wouldn't have fallen to this state, losing all his cultivation.
All just to protect herself, this useless being!
Yao Guang felt a sharp pain in her eyes.
Later texts would record that during the Dragon War, the Big Dipper Seventh Star sacrificed itself, leaving only Star Lord Yao Guang behind. Moreover, the Wheel King of the Underworld sacrificed himself to help others. Star Lord was heartbroken, shedding blood and tears, transforming into a Fallen Immortal and becoming a demon. From then on, there would be no more Big Dipper Seventh Star! (To be continued.)
