Unfortunately, amidst the chaos online, Li Hong was completely unaware.
At that moment, he sat there, looking bewildered as he faced interrogation.
Seated in a single VIP chair, adorned with limited edition accessories and dressed in fashionable prison attire, he remained silent in front of two trembling Tailored Men.
Li felt like he was on the verge of a promotion!
On his first day at work, his superior had assigned him to interrogate the Epic-Level Criminal Li Hong. Yes, this guy who shared his surname.
What did this signify? Li was well aware that his superior must have recognized his exceptional abilities and decided to promote him.
The fact that he was chosen to interrogate this individual indicated the importance placed on him by his superior.
"What is your name? Age, gender, hobbies, zodiac sign, blood type!" Li began the questioning according to protocol.
"Ahem... there's no need to ask about blood type or zodiac signs," his colleague quickly interjected.
Li frowned; how could that be acceptable? Without knowing the zodiac sign or blood type, how could he analyze the criminal's psychological state?
"Li Hong, male, 1 year old. Hobbies: female. Zodiac: Leo. Blood type: B."
"Do you know what crime you've committed?" Li asked, satisfied with Li Hong's cooperation as he continued his questioning.
Li Hong looked utterly confused and replied blankly, "I don't know? I just wrote some royal texts online and sent a couple of seeds to readers; I didn't do anything else!"
"Disseminating YHS... well, considering your good attitude towards admitting guilt, I'll recommend a sentence of three to five years," Li said sternly.
Li Hong blinked, his face filled with confusion.
Has it really been three to five years?
"However, I see you still haven't recognized your mistake. Why did you kidnap Mr. Carmillon?"
Li Hong's face flushed red as he explained, "I didn't kidnap him; he came to my house on his own."
"Oh! The specifics!" Li's eyes lit up; he had stumbled upon a significant secret.
"Yesterday morning, I was washing up when he arrived at my doorstep. At first, I didn't recognize him; it was only later that I realized who he was. He didn't have a penny on him, so I took him in," Li Hong explained.
His explanation was quite flimsy; not only did Li not believe it, but even he found it absurd. But there was no way around it; this was the truth!
He couldn't possibly reveal what the Supreme God and that Shiny Bald Head had done, could he?
Li furrowed his brow and said in a low voice, "Can you stand by your words? You should know that falsifying evidence is..."
Before Li could finish his threatening statement, the interrogation room door swung open. The Square-Faced Man walked in, followed by several others, including Carmillon.
Upon seeing Li Hong, the Square-Faced Man's expression darkened, and he instructed Li, "Go on, uncuff him."
Li was taken aback. What was going on? This guy in front of him was a notorious kidnapper!
But since it was an order from a superior, despite his confusion, Li stepped forward and unlocked Li Hong's handcuffs.
He unlocked the handcuffs and moved his sore wrists. Glancing at the Square-Faced Man and the others, Li Hong explained, "Big Brother, I'm truly innocent. You can ask Carmillon if you don't believe me."
"I know, that's why I'm letting you out now," the Square-Faced Man replied with a grimace.
Initially, he thought they had cracked a major case, only to realize it was just a misunderstanding.
If it weren't for Carmillon vouching for him, the Square-Faced Man would have believed that Li Hong had brainwashed Carmillon.
"You guys too, with all this secrecy over copyright transactions. Look at the trouble you've caused us now," the Square-Faced Man scolded, pointing an accusatory finger at the two.
Carmillon and Li Hong quickly apologized; after all, they hadn't considered the situation thoroughly.
"The blame lies with 404 and Supreme God!" Li Hong thought to himself.
"Alright."
Seeing that their attitude was decent, the Square-Faced Man relaxed his expression and frowned. "This has blown up quite a bit. Later, you both will accompany me to a press conference to clarify the situation."
Carmillon and Li Hong nodded in agreement; they had no objections to that.
Thus, the Square-Faced Man led them into a conference room.
The room had been temporarily converted into a press hall, with several seats prepared on the podium. Below the podium was a group of dissatisfied reporters.
As soon as they entered, especially with Li Hong's appearance, the reporters began to murmur among themselves.
"Why is this guy out here? Still wearing prison clothes, should we put a Mosaic over him?"
"Go ahead, better not to lead our friends astray."
"Hey, he's not even wearing handcuffs!"
A reporter's reminder made everyone turn to look at Li Hong's hands. Sure enough, they were completely bare—no handcuffs at all.
"What’s going on! This is a vicious kidnapper; is it really okay to just let him out like this?"
"I think it's fine!"
"Alright, alright, let's see what they do."
"They're not planning to clear his name, are they?"
"I think that's unfair!"
"Enough talk, let's just watch them!"
The Square-Faced Man led Li Hong and Carmillon onto the stage, where they sat down in their respective places.
The murmurs from the audience were loud, and the three could clearly hear them. The Square-Faced Man glanced at the two beside him and quietly tapped the table three times.
Carmillon and Li Hong exchanged a glance, instantly understanding that it was time to put on a show.
The two of them immediately stood up and bowed three times toward the reporters below.
“……”
The reporters were taken aback by their actions. What was going on?
The microphone was handed to Carmillon, who took it and said, “I apologize, everyone. This is purely a misunderstanding. I, Carmillon, have never been kidnapped. This incident was entirely the doing of my foolish assistant and not my intention at all.”
“Wow, he really is trying to clear his name! Who is this guy? Isn’t he just a loser? How can he even attempt to redeem himself?”
“This plot is too bland; let’s hurry up and cut it.”
“Ahem…”
The Square-Faced Man took the microphone and said in a deep voice, “Everyone, please refrain from making baseless assumptions. As Mr. Carmillon stated, this matter is purely a misunderstanding. Mr. Carmillon discreetly visited Mr. Li Hong’s home to discuss the film rights for Breaking Through the Sky. Out of a desire for confidentiality, Mr. Carmillon did not inform his assistant of his whereabouts. Thus, the subsequent events unfolded.”
As soon as these words were spoken, the audience became even more uproarious.
Who is Carmillon? He is one of the top directors in the world; he may not have made many films, but each one has secured its place in cinematic history.
A director of such stature actually wants to purchase the film rights from a loser writer? Did we hear that wrong?
Even the reporters who had previously been shouting about a conspiracy and trying to clear Li Hong’s name had forgotten all about that now.
Carmillon nodded and shouted, “Yes, just like Tailored Man said. I greatly admire Mr. Li Hong’s exceptional talent, especially his work on Breaking Through the Sky. Lower Emperor—it's simply the most perfect script I have ever seen, so I have decided to bring it to life.”
The acknowledgment from Carmillon undoubtedly sent the reporters into a frenzy.
Are they really going to purchase the film rights for Breaking Through the Sky?
What the book Breaking Through the Sky is about didn't concern these reporters at all; they only knew that Li Hong, this previously unnoticed loser of a writer, was about to rise to fame.
Look at that guy named Li Hong, the dead loser who has now hooked up with Carmillon and is on fire.
"Mr. Li Hong, may I ask about your sexual orientation?"
"Li Hong, did Mr. Carmillon infringe upon you?"
"Do you have any under-the-table dealings?"
"Your pen name Chalk White is so cool!"
