As we grow, we will hear some news that is beneficial to us, such as Siddhartha Gautama.
We met two such ascetic monks on the way. They told us that they were going to a place where a great sage resides, and many people worship him, believing him to be a descendant of Shakyamuni. There are even rumors that this wise monk is the reincarnation of Shakyamuni.
Julie and I were equally excited and decided to follow them to find out more!
According to the news that has come, it is said that pilgrims must bring gifts when visiting this high monk! People worship him faithfully, which has piqued my interest.
"Hello, madam. We are monks from afar, here to listen to your master's teachings. Please allow us to meet him, this perfect being, and this is the gift we bring to him!"
"You've come to the right place. Do you see it? Ahead is where our Elder resides, right in this peaceful courtyard. You can also choose to stay here overnight. You will have plenty of time, like countless others, to hear the teachings of our Elder!" the female disciple said.
"Oh, don't forget about us. We've also come here out of admiration. We've heard that only Elder can lead us to higher and farther places, give us a goal, and help us find the ultimate destination. We really want to meet him. Can we see him in person today?" Julie said.
"Yes, this benefactor can see him very soon. In the many days before, I have seen him more than once. He is so dignified, so silent, so calm, and so serious when preaching to everyone. You will be moved by him," the female benefactor said.
But in my heart, I have many questions flashing in my mind. I am very happy and fortunate to meet such a wise man for communication. I am looking forward to it.
When we stepped into the courtyard together, we were very surprised. We didn't expect to see so many monks sitting here, row after row, all sitting neatly, waiting to meet with this Elder.
I don't know if I will have time to talk to her alone, but I'm sure she will appear soon and talk to everyone together!
Julie and I also joined in, waiting for the appearance of this wise man!
"Julie, do you see that? That's him."
"Who you yearn for day and night!" I said.
"Oh, where is he? Show me quickly!" Julie couldn't wait!
"Did you see that person in the yellow robe, slowly walking towards us? On your left! He is no different from anyone else. If you don't observe carefully, you won't notice him. Can you see any difference between him and the other monks?" I said.
"There's not much difference. If I have to say, I think he is much thinner than the others!" Julie replied.
This Elder walked humbly, with a furrowed brow as if contemplating something. His face showed no expression, yet he always wore a smile, which was quite rare. His yellow mandarin jacket was slightly different from others, making me feel that it was intentionally creating a sense of hierarchy. Because only an Elder, only the supreme leader, would dress in such a way. His steady and balanced steps made me feel that the world was full of peace, free from war. His breath was so delicate, so prolonged, giving the impression of being desireless, symbolizing purity.
"We will be able to hear his enlightened words today!" Julie said!
I did not make a sound, just silently observing all this. It's not that I don't believe in his existence; his existence must have its reasons. I just feel that nothing new and interesting will come out of his mouth! Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. Since this Elder is a follower of Siddhartha Gautama and has so many followers, his profoundness must be beyond the reach of ordinary monks. However, his existence is not a passing fad. I have heard about it a long time ago, and the important thing is that I have studied their teachings. Today's opportunity to exchange views is also a divine intention.
But the aura emanating from this person is still revered by people, and I also sincerely feel a sense of admiration. Because every part of his body seems to be telling a story, narrating a truth, which is the result of his many years of practice.
We sat quietly like this, observing everything and pondering everything.
He was like a beam of light, and suddenly disappeared from our sight. When we came to our senses, it was already time for lunch.
These monks who have come from all directions are all bringing their own food and starting to eat! They don't eat meat, only vegetables. Indeed, in this day and age, very few people eat meat. The key is that they eat so little. Are they fasting? They don't eat enough to feed a chicken. Julie and I also started on our dry rations.
After lunch, people took a short rest, and then the Elder began to preach, imparting the so-called Buddhist experience.
Despite the scorching sun, people showed no signs of impatience, allowing the sun to shine on their bald heads, and the nearby crickets and birds in the trees to make their sounds. It did not disturb the people's patience in sitting quietly and meditating.
He came, he walked towards the crowd, still with the same kind eyes, the same friendliness, the same tranquility, as if peace forever shines in people's hearts, as if he desires nothing, as if he has already become immortal.
Everyone listened attentively to his words, as he confidently began his sermon! In their Buddhist terminology, this is called "teaching." The World-Honored One taught about human suffering, the root of suffering, and how we can be free from suffering.
He patiently explained, his voice resonant and his speech gradually slowing, gradually revealing the mysteries within. Life is difficult, all sentient beings suffer, only by following me and entering Buddhism can one find liberation. He not only spoke of the wisdom of Buddhism, but also used the sayings and quotes of Taoism, Confucianism, and other sages. These words, like smoke, lingered and circled in the thoughts of each listener, until they became deeply ingrained.
After what seemed like a long time, the master's teaching finally came to an end. As soon as her voice fell, many who had already become monks, as well as some worldly sufferers who had come out of admiration, all rose and expressed their intention to take refuge in Buddhism.
"Don't worry, everyone has the opportunity. Since you have already heard the teachings of my family's Buddhism and still agree with my words, you will eventually take refuge in my family's Buddhism. Suffering will eventually leave you," said the revered Elder.
Julie also stepped forward, shyly saying, "I also want to take refuge in the World-Honored One, take refuge in Buddhism, please accept me, World-Honored One!" At the same time, she looked at me. I knew what she meant, before I could speak, she had already spoken.
"Liu Ying, what are you still waiting for? We all listened to the teachings of this sage, heard his profound insights, and found so much truth in them. What are you hesitating for? Don't you want to embark on this transcendent path? Haven't you always been pursuing the highest, unparalleled path? Now it's right in front of you, yet you hesitate. Tell me, what are you hesitating for? How much longer do you want to wait? Dear friend, this is the only true path to save us!" I looked at Julie calmly for a long time.
I knew that Julie was about to leave me. She was going to pave the way for her own choice.
"Julie, my dear friend, you have now decided on your future path, and you must take responsibility for your choice. I have always thought that you were following in my footsteps, and I have often wondered when you would follow your own heart to do something. I am also happy for you, that you have found a path that can set you free. Perhaps your choice is the right one!"
"Don't be like this, my dear Liu Ying, my best friend! Do we have to have this kind of conversation? Tell me your true thoughts, why not turn to Buddhism? Aren't we all looking for the same thing, the path that lies right in front of us?"
"I bless you, I sincerely bless you from the bottom of my heart! You must persist in your original intention and reach the end!"
I felt Julie's eyes moisten, I knew she was reluctant to part with me, and perhaps there was another layer of meaning. The two of us who were once bound together are now going to separate. My heart is crying, she ultimately chose not me, but followed someone else...
After a moment of contemplation, we adjusted our emotions because we are all adults now, not children! Although there is much reluctance in our hearts, we must take responsibility for ourselves. The road ahead is long and difficult. Even Julie, who is younger than me, has such a strong belief. As someone who has endured hardships, what reason do I have not to continue moving forward? There shouldn't be any!
"We will still be good friends, won't we? It's just that we can't be together day and night anymore! We will still see each other, we definitely will! I promise!"
"Why are you so firm? Why are you unwilling to embrace Buddhism? Or have you found some flaws in the Buddhist teachings?" Julie said.
"No! Each follows their own master, each is loyal to their own path. The World-Honored One's thoughts and actions are good, how could I nitpick?" I said.
