Back in his office at Sweet Potato Films, Li Hong still felt as if he were in a dream.
Had someone really kissed him?
“Ugh, I can’t think about that now.”
Shaking his head to cast aside those chaotic thoughts, Li Hong began to manage a series of tasks related to Sweet Potato Films' law firm.
A new drama was set to start filming, and the director remained the same—Lu Mao. Li Hong had already decided on the theme; now it was up to Lu Mao to bring it to life.
This project would essentially be the focus of Sweet Potato Films moving forward. If they succeeded, they could make a significant impact in the entertainment industry. But if they failed, it would be best to abandon any grand ambitions of becoming a powerhouse in the industry.
With the new drama confirmed, Li Hong found himself with nothing much to do.
Charlie, the marketing talent, was surprisingly doing well in the general manager position; at least he was handling his responsibilities. This left Li Hong feeling somewhat idle whenever he wanted to take action.
“Well, this is fine. I’ll check on how Who Can Compete? is doing,” Li Hong chuckled as he opened the browser on his desk and logged into a site he hadn’t visited in a while.
He had already received all the manuscripts for Who Can Compete?, made some edits, and scheduled them for automatic release. So even if Li Hong didn’t check on it, it would update on its own.
As soon as he logged in, something felt off.
Li Hong considered himself somewhat of a prominent figure; his new book might not be a massive hit, but it shouldn’t be completely unnoticed either.
However, after browsing through the site, he noticed that no one seemed to be talking about Who Can Compete?.
Confused, Li Hong quickly opened the author dashboard to check the data.
“This doesn’t make sense; why are the collections and recommendations so low?” Seeing only four digits in collections made him ponder deeply.
"Damn it, this is not scientific!"
Even though there hadn't been any updates recently, the story still managed to keep readers hanging on with every two chapters. Not to mention, with the name "Chalk White" shining above, it shouldn't be doing this poorly, right?
It wasn't until Li Hong arrived at the Review Section that he found the answer.
"Honestly, the concept of 'Who Can Compete?' by Chalk is a pretty good game narrative from any angle. However, I just can't get into it. Every time I see this Goddess Alliance game, I instantly lose interest!"
"I keep replacing Goddess Alliance with da!"
"Even replacing it with da doesn't help. The details of the game aren't explained by Chalk, and since we haven't played it, how can we understand?"
Aside from the complaints about the game itself, there were more critiques regarding some of the details within.
"I have to say, this is the roughest book I've ever seen. In the last chapter, the protagonist was playing Demacia's Power, and in this chapter, it suddenly turned into Garen? The teammates too; they were playing Crimson Reaper and then suddenly became vampires? In my opinion, this book has the most bugs."
"I feel the same way; Chalk White must have lost his mind..."
After reading these comments from readers, Li Hong was sweating profusely.
How could he explain this? He couldn't just tell them that he hadn't made any mistakes and that it was their generation of readers who were clueless!
Well, even though he knew it wasn't his fault, Li Hong decided to clarify things a bit. Otherwise, if this continued, Who Can Compete? would have no impact at all.
Li Hong opened the backend and wrote a single chapter to address the issue.
"I am aware of all the problems you’ve encountered while reading this book. Here’s a link; play this game and you’ll understand what I’m writing about."
Along with that, Li Hong also posted the Official Website of the Game.
The download channel for Goddess Alliance has opened, but players are surprisingly scarce. Li Hong's actions serve both to justify himself and to promote Goddess Alliance, which he finds quite enjoyable.
After posting, Li Hong became interested in Goddess Alliance. He had played League of Legends a few times in Shroud World, so he knew how to play. However, he was completely unaware of what changes Mark and the others had made to this twin sister game.
Out of curiosity, Li Hong clicked on the Official Website of the Game and began downloading the client for Goddess Alliance.
The internet speed at Sweet Potato Films was decent, and it didn't take long for the several gigabytes of the client to finish downloading.
After installing it, Li Hong launched the game.
The game's entry page had changed significantly; the original League of Legends felt more juvenile and intense. Now, the login and entry pages of Goddess Alliance appeared much cuter and more charming.
The hero character portraits looked quite impressive. To avoid any awkward taboos, all the hero images on the login page featured beautiful female characters.
As for the most important Cross-Dressing Hero and Ugly Monster heroes, none were revealed.
"Drawing enemies in, I truly admire this tactic of Mark and his team," Li Hong thought.
First, they lure players in with beautiful sisters, then shatter their expectations with ugly monsters and cross-dressing characters—it's simply perfect!
Due to Li Hong's presence, the possibility of one-click login with QQ accounts was eliminated. Therefore, players still needed to create their own accounts for Goddess Alliance.
Fortunately, in this Blue Star where real-name verification wasn't required, registering a game account was not a difficult task at all.
Li Hong randomly filled in an account name and password, registered, and then entered the game.
The game divisions hadn't changed much; they were still named after backgrounds like Ionia and Noxus.
However, since the game had just launched and server pressure was low, only Ionia and Noxus appeared in the list for now.
Li Hong clicked on Ionia without a second thought, entering the game.
The usual thickness of skin detection question popped up. In the original League of Legends, countless players who were not masters had inexplicably chosen the option "I am a master."
However, this time, Mark and the others opted for a different choice. Instead of the thickness of skin detection question, it transformed into a rather shameless Zombie question.
"If 'Goddess Alliance' becomes the most popular game in the world, blue boys who want to play must dress as girls. What is your choice?"
“[1] Don’t even think about it, I’m a Straight Man; I will quit gaming!
[2] It depends; if I really can’t give up on 'Goddess Alliance,' then… I guess I’ll dress as a girl.
[3] Gladly accept; for the game I love, what’s wrong with dressing as a girl?
[4] Don’t ask me; I’m a girl.”
Hmm? Looking at such a boring question, Li Hong quickly clicked on the third option.
After making the choice, a rainbow of colors filled Li Hong's entire screen.
“Congratulations, Summoner! You have received [Demacia's Shame - Garen], [Wandering Robe - Ryze], and [Great Bird Shooter - Ashe]!”
“…”
Li Hong felt something was off. These three characters were indeed beginner heroes, but why did they have such names? Was Mark's Chinese that bad that he messed it up?
So, Li Hong picked up the phone on the table and called Mark.
“Hey, Mark?”
"Boss? Is there something going on?"
Li Hong asked curiously, "What’s up with that option? Why do three heroes pop up right after you select it?"
"Oh, that's something we just implemented. We will gift different heroes based on each player's selection."
"Huh?"
Li Hong inquired further, "Different heroes? What are they?"
"For example, with the first option, we will give them Big Mouth, Giant Bug, and Excavator. These are all grotesque versions, guaranteed to make them feel the game's malice!"
"What about the other options?" Upon hearing this, Li Hong's interest was piqued, and he pressed for more information.
