Dinner was prepared by Lin Ruxian's mother, with Lin Zhengfeng lending a hand.
The table was filled with a variety of dishes, clearly showing that the couple had put a lot of thought into hosting their son-in-law and granddaughter.
Li Hong wasn't particularly interested in the food; he had grown up and no longer pursued delicious dishes as he once did. However, compared to Li Hong's calm demeanor, Yuchen was much more lively.
Before all the dishes were served, Yuchen had already started to sneak bites of food under Lin Ruxian's watchful eye.
If it weren't for Li Hong scolding the unruly girl, making her tone it down a bit, she would have likely finished off a plate before the meal even began.
However, Lin Zhengfeng and his wife had no objections to Yuchen's sneaking. On the contrary, they were pleased that Yuchen enjoyed their cooking. This indulgence only encouraged Yuchen to eat more freely.
Lin Ruxian was no saint either; knowing full well that Li Hong disapproved, she continued to encourage Yuchen. If it weren't for the inappropriate setting, Li Hong would have dragged Yuchen away.
Throughout the meal, Lin Zhengfeng and his wife smiled as they served Yuchen food, treating her like their own granddaughter.
Li Hong sat quietly on the side, only daring to eat in silence without saying a word. He knew Yuchen's true identity; it was just that Lin Zhengfeng and his wife were unaware. If they knew that Yuchen wasn't their granddaughter, their warm hospitality might not have been so enthusiastic.
After serving Yuchen a piece of meat, Lin Ruxian's mother suddenly asked Li Hong, "Hey, Li Hong, are you planning to have a second child?"
"Ah?" Li Hong looked bewildered while holding his bowl.
Lin Ruxian wasn't much better off; her face flushed with embarrassment as she scolded her mother, "Mom, what are you thinking? Isn't having Yuchen enough? Or do you not like this granddaughter?"
"You silly girl, I was just asking."
Lin Ruxian's Mother said with a hint of annoyance, "Who wouldn't like Yuchen? She's my granddaughter; how could I not like her? I just think that since the two-child policy is now in place, if you want to have another child, you should do it soon. While you're still young, otherwise, it will be too late later on."
Lin Ruxian glanced at Li Hong and shyly replied, "Let's talk about this later..."
Lin Zhengfeng shot a glance at Li Hong and asked Lin Ruxian, "What’s the matter? Is he against it?"
Li Hong nearly choked on his drink; how did this suddenly become about him?
Lin Ruxian shyly said, "I want to have a baby, but I'm afraid Li Hong won't agree."
"Hmm?" Lin Zhengfeng and his wife immediately turned their attention to Li Hong.
Li Hong's expression stiffened as he awkwardly explained, "I don't disagree; it's just... it depends on fate."
Lin Zhengfeng pointed at Li Hong, exasperated. "What kind of nonsense is that? What do you mean it depends on fate? If it were up to me, you two are just too busy and don’t even live together. If you want to have a second child, you need to live together. How about this: Lin Ruxian should move back in with you. After all, you're a couple; what does living apart even mean? If the media finds out about this, they’ll write all sorts of nonsense."
"Right, your dad is right. Lin Ruxian, you should pack your things and go back with Li Hong. You're married now; what does it mean to still live at your parents' house?" Lin Ruxian's Mother chimed in.
The couple quickly set the tone for the situation. Lin Ruxian listened with delight, feeling like she could hug her parents for their support. She never expected them to be so helpful!
In contrast to Lin Ruxian's excitement, Li Hong felt quite awkward. With the situation having escalated this far, how could he refuse Lin Ruxian moving into his home?
However, Li Hong truly did not want Lin Ruxian moving in and disrupting his life. His marriage to Lin Ruxian was merely a transaction of interests. Yet now, he found himself entangled with her in ways he hadn’t anticipated.
"What’s wrong with you? Do you disagree with this?" Lin Zhengfeng asked angrily when he saw Li Hong at a loss for words.
Li Hong explained with a bitter smile, "Dad, given the situation, how could I possibly disagree? It's just that with Lin Ruxian moving in with me, I wonder if it will have any negative impact on her."
"That's not a problem. Outsiders already know about our marriage. Besides, I’ll be stepping back from the entertainment industry soon, so it won’t affect things much," Lin Ruxian replied confidently.
Li Hong paused for a moment before nodding. He clearly understood that with Lin Ruxian determined, there was no way to stop her.
Now, Li Hong could only hope that his future life wouldn’t deviate too much because of this.
After dinner, Li Hong prepared to leave with Yuchen. Lin Ruxian had also packed her belongings, clearly intending to stay at Li Hong's place overnight.
Although Lin Zhengfeng and his wife wanted to keep Yuchen around for a little longer, they had no choice but to let the father and daughter head home since Yuchen still had school the next day.
After placing Lin Ruxian's luggage in the trunk, Li Hong drove off with Yuchen and Lin Ruxian toward their nearby home.
Perhaps having eaten too much earlier, Yuchen fell asleep in Lin Ruxian's arms shortly after getting into the car.
In the dimly lit vehicle, the atmosphere became quite awkward.
"Why do you have to do this?" Li Hong sighed softly.
"I'm not handsome, and I'm not particularly wealthy either. With your qualities, finding someone better shouldn't be too difficult..."
Lin Ruxian stroked Yuchen's hair while gazing out at the vibrant night scene filled with lights and colors, choosing not to respond to Li Hong's words.
She really didn't know what kind of poison she had been infected with by Li Hong.
At first, she just found this man interesting. As time went on, she realized that he was someone she could rely on. Now, she had fallen deeply in love with Li Hong.
This kind of affection was similar to her own; she had no idea why.
Lin Ruxian had encountered countless outstanding men throughout her life. Whether they were successful phoenix men or strikingly handsome pretty boys, there were also the more pragmatic rich second-generation heirs with powerful family backgrounds. By all accounts, Li Hong seemed to have no chance compared to them.
Yet, strangely enough, Lin Ruxian found herself uninterested in those men. Instead, it was Li Hong, this ordinary man, who captured her attention.
Every time she saw the way Li Hong looked at Yuchen with such tenderness, her heart would warm. The qualities of a doting father deeply attracted Lin Ruxian.
Not receiving a response from Lin Ruxian, Li Hong couldn't be bothered anymore. He didn't feel any aversion towards her; after all, a beauty like her coming to him was not something he would refuse.
At worst, he could just give her a five-star review after they were done. He never imagined during his single years that he would be pursued by a beautiful woman.
