Jufeng noted down the phone number of Red Gang Brother. After giving some instructions to Tong Bailong and Xue, he left the hospital alone and dialed the number he had just learned.
"Hello, this is Jufeng, the boy who killed your boss. From now on, I am your new leader."
...
Half an hour later, across the street from Red Wolf Bar, a dim streetlight stood lonely in its duty. However, in the shadows where the yellow light could not reach, two figures were hiding.
"Brother Jufeng, I've investigated everything you asked me to. The leader of the Red Wolf Gang is Lu Chun. He used to take care of us quite a bit; I've met him a few times. He's currently inside the bar. What do you want to do? Should I call the Brothers? Although we may not have as many people as them, we can still make a decent showing in this bar."
One of the figures was the imposing Jufeng, while the other was a younger brother calmly detailing the situation at the bar.
After hearing the younger brother's report, Jufeng had a clearer idea in his mind, planning how to achieve victory in this first battle that would truly mark his entry into the Underworld.
"How many reliable people can you gather?"
"Well, twenty. Some of my old crew have joined other gangs, so that's all I have for now."
"Good, twenty is enough. In a bit, I'll go in to assassinate Lu Chun. You prepare your men and lead them to storm in from outside half an hour later. I have no other demands; since our numbers are similar and you have the advantage in momentum, I need you to strike quickly. If you can't take him down, don't bother coming to see me. If you succeed, I'll hand over this place for you to manage."
Jufeng's combination of kindness and authority was very effective. The Red Gang Brother perked up at once; Red Wolf Bar was a juicy piece of meat. If he could manage this place, it would mean a bright future ahead. After all, getting involved in the Underworld was mostly about survival—how many were like Jufeng who sought thrills?
But then he hesitated and asked, "Brother Jufeng, why would they be weaker than us?"
Jufeng's gaze swept across the wide dark street, focusing on the flickering neon signs like an arrow aiming at its target. With sharp intensity, he replied, "Because their boss is already dead."
...
Red Wolf Bar truly lived up to its reputation as one of the top drinking establishments in the university town. As Jufeng stepped inside, he was enveloped by a completely different kind of noise that filled his ears and made him gradually forget himself.
Jufeng casually found a seat and ordered a glass of red wine from the bartender. In this dangerous situation, he needed to stay alert at all times; however, a little alcohol could help him perform at his best.
Observation is the first principle of a killer. Although Jufeng is not a killer, he has undergone training in this area while learning his skills. Seemingly casually drinking, he is actually observing the "military arrangement" within the bar. A rough glance reveals about thirteen or fourteen people scattered in various corners of the hall, indicating that this fellow named Lu Chun is quite cautious.
After finishing a drink, ten minutes have passed. Jufeng orders another drink, slowly stands up, and walks toward the private room.
It is a long corridor with dim yellow lighting. Around the corner, he can vaguely see Fair Skin and Skin entangled in an ambiguous embrace. Occasionally, waiters weave through the corridor, but the most noticeable sight is at the entrance of one of the private rooms, where two burly men stand guard.
Jufeng lowers his head and shifts his gaze, pretending to be a drunkard as he sways forward. As he passes by a waiter, he suddenly slips and falls onto the waiter, his drink tilting and spilling all over his own clothes.
"What’s going on? How do you walk? There’s plenty of room for you to walk without bumping into me! You spilled my drink all over me—can you pay for my clothes?" Jufeng feigns drunkenness and immediately starts to make a scene, scaring the waiter into a flustered state, unsure of how to respond. In this place, customers are mixed with all sorts of people; waiters dare not provoke anyone easily and quickly apologize. However, Jufeng ignores him and insists, "What a buzzkill! Come on, accompany me to the restroom to change clothes. Did I forget to check the calendar before coming out today?"
Jufeng heads toward the restroom, and the waiter dares not delay and hurriedly follows him. Such incidents happen often in bars; passersby hardly bat an eye at them. The corridor is already sparsely populated, and everything happens in a flash without anyone noticing. The bar remains vibrant and lively as if nothing had occurred.
After a while, a waiter appears at the entrance of the private room guarded by two large men but is stopped by them.
"What do you want?"
"I’m here to deliver drinks. Brother Chun has been inside for quite some time, and he’s almost finished with his drinks. I’m just trying to show off in front of Brother Chun. Can you let me through? I’ll buy you guys drinks next time."
The two large men exchange glances, both wearing expressions that say they understand each other; they know it’s not easy for someone trying to make a living out here. They then allow the waiter to enter.
By this time, twenty minutes have passed. Outside Red Wolf Bar, twenty-one members of Red Gang's former faction have all arrived and are hiding in the shadows. One of them, feeling somewhat anxious, turns to Zheng Ge, who is temporarily in charge of contacting Jufeng, and asks, "Zheng Ge, are you sure Jufeng can be trusted? Brothers have no way back this time; if it fails, there will be no place for Brothers in Washing City."
Zheng Ge also feels some trepidation inside because Red Wolf Gang is an old faction with much higher quality subordinates than their own group. Just relying on having an equal number of people might not guarantee victory.
However, now that they are committed to action and cannot let morale falter, Zheng Ge gathers his spirit and confidently states, "Brothers, when we were working in Red Gang before, we knew what kind of person Dead Man is; we would never have a chance to rise under him. Those who come out to mix must have a spirit of adventure. I believe in Jufeng. If we fail this time, I Lezheng will definitely die in front of Brothers; I won’t let down everyone’s trust in me."
Lezheng does not make empty promises but speaks sincerely; his words touch everyone present deeply and earn their respect. However, what Lezheng did not expect was that this decision would indeed change his fate.
Jufeng remains unaware that outside there has been a crisis shaking their morale because he is currently too preoccupied as he delves deeper into the Tiger's Den.
It was none other than Jufeng. After entering the private room, Romain naturally walked over to the table in the center, placing two bottles of red wine from his tray down before casually moving toward the corner of the room, where he stood.
Having completed this without raising any suspicion, Romain dared to discreetly survey the situation inside the room.
There were five people in the room. Among them, the one surrounded by others, resembling a photo that Lezheng had shown himself, was undoubtedly Lu Chun. On the sofa sat two others, one person stood in front of the karaoke machine, and another was in the restroom, which was locked but had its light on. Of course, this did not include the various women who were elegantly dressed.
Lu Chun did not suspect anything with the addition of one more person in the room; his confidence in his Red Wolf Bar was too great. It wasn't until ten minutes later that an incident suddenly occurred.
A man burst through the door, panicked, and exclaimed, “Brother Chun, it’s bad! Those brats from the Red Gang are causing trouble—about twenty of them have come!”
Lu Chun, who had been in high spirits, plummeted into despair upon hearing this report.
“These bastards! My cousin has supported them for so many years, and now they dare to come and make trouble for me. Ah Wei, go take a look. Since they have the guts to come here, don’t let them leave standing. Get lost! All of you get lost!”
Lu Chun was furious and had lost all interest in entertainment; his last remark was naturally directed at those women and Jufeng.
The women were quick to read the atmosphere; sensing something was off, they hurriedly lowered their heads and rushed out. Romain deliberately slowed his pace to follow behind them.
By the time Ah Wei had gone out with the man who reported in, and the group of women had exited through the door, Romain strolled to the entrance and casually closed and locked the door behind him, leaving himself inside.
Hearing the sound of the door locking, Lu Chun looked up and saw that Romain was still in the private room. Instinctively, he cursed loudly.
“Are you looking for death? Didn’t you hear me tell you to get out?”
At this remark, Romain displayed an innocent smile on his seemingly harmless face but said nothing. Suddenly, his figure moved swiftly; before Lu Chun could react, he knocked down the standing man and then swiftly approached a bodyguard who was about to rise from the sofa. With a quick maneuver, he locked that man's throat, causing him to experience a brief moment of suffocation.
“Who are you?”
Lu Chun finally realized the severity of the situation. He hadn’t expected that his most trusted experts would fall unconscious after just a brief encounter.
Jufeng remained silent, clearly unwilling to let Lu Chun die in peace.
Just as Romain was about to make his move, a distinct sound of a gun being cocked echoed from behind him, abruptly halting his actions.
"Impressive skills, but I wonder if you can move faster than the bullet in my hand?"
Romain did not turn around, but his keen senses informed him that someone was standing five meters behind him, aiming a gun at him. He could even feel the chilling aura emanating from the cold muzzle.
"Hahaha, you think you can kill me? You're still too inexperienced. Who sent you? If you tell me honestly, I can grant you a quick death."
Lu Chun's words were pleasant to hear, yet they held no intention of letting Romain go alive.
"Heh," Romain finally spoke for the first time in the private room. "Brother Chun, it doesn't really matter who I am. What matters is that I seem quite eager to compare speed with your subordinate. I'm two meters away from you, and he's five meters away from me. It seems I have the advantage."
Upon hearing Romain's somewhat delusional words, Lu Chun's mouth opened even wider in disbelief.
"Hahaha! Did I hear that right? You want to race against a bullet? Fine, since you're seeking death, I'll grant your wish. A-Kang, do it!"
Romain had been closely observing Lu Chun and the gunman. As soon as Lu Chun finished speaking, Romain moved. He leaned slightly forward and dashed toward Lu Chun. At the same time, the poised gun behind him roared like a beast.
"Bang!"
In Lu Chun's mind, that gunshot sounded beautiful. He believed that this audacious assassin would surely vanish like a wisp of smoke after the shot rang out.
However, the reality was quite different.
Romain's leaning body did not appear where A-Kang had anticipated; instead, it left behind an afterimage and suddenly reappeared at his side. It turned out that Romain's forward lean was merely a feint; his true target was A-Kang behind him.
Five meters may seem far, but it was the perfect distance for Romain to take a life. After all, the death of the Red Gang Leader had already proven Romain's explosive power within that range.
Jufeng swiftly placed a finger on A-Kang's hand, just as A-Kang was about to pull the trigger for the second time. With a firm push, he helped A-Kang fire the gun. The sound of the shot echoed, and Lu Chun watched in disbelief as blood splattered from his chest. Gradually, his consciousness began to fade…
And then… there was nothing more.
Jufeng did not pause; he wrapped his left arm around A-Kang's throat and applied pressure. With a sharp crack, A-Kang's life shattered like a fragile vase, collapsing to the ground.
What seemed like a slow act of murder was, in reality, completed in less than a minute, ending with Jufeng's victory. He looked down at A-Kang's lifeless body in his arms and murmured, "That was close; it was truly a narrow escape. If your marksmanship had been better, I would have been the one lying down if it were my brothers here."
Despite this, a deep wound marred Jufeng's right arm, a result of the high-speed bullet that had burned against the air and his skin.
Killing was never easy for Jufeng; it took a significant toll on him. Staggering slightly, he opened the door and stepped into the chaotic hall. Inside, customers were frantically trying to escape while the members of two rival gangs fought without distinguishing friend from foe. It wasn't until Jufeng shouted loudly that silence fell over the bar.
"Everyone listen! The Red Wolf Gang Leader has been killed by his own men! The Red Wolf Gang is now leaderless! Anyone who dares to resist will be the next Lu Chun!"
