The next morning, Xue hurriedly finished breakfast and rushed to the Rising Dragon Club. After all, the Association was reopening, and unexpected events could happen at any moment. The area under Now Hurricane's management had expanded, reflecting half of Huan City University. If all the Senior Management were at Canglang's Floating Life, it would be difficult to manage everything.
The second group leaving Canglang One Floating Life consisted of none other than Tong Bailong and the long-absent Jufeng. The two strolled leisurely, carrying a few books.
A group of younger members watched the two big shots leave and suddenly realized that the entire gang seemed to have forgotten one thing: their leader was still a freshman. The pride on their faces grew even more pronounced.
After about ten minutes of walking, Jufeng and Tong Bailong entered the gates of Huan City University. It was peak time for breakfast as students hurried to class, with crowds bustling everywhere. Not many people noticed Jufeng and Tong Bailong, despite Tong Bailong's imposing stature; everyone was too focused on whether they would be late.
Jufeng and Tong Bailong first returned to their dormitory. Inside, Cai Fanshuang was nowhere to be seen; the beds were neatly made, and the desks were spotless. It seemed that last night had been quite lively, though it was unclear whether it was due to gaming or something else entirely.
Jufeng glanced at his own bed, which was relatively clean. Although he hadn't slept there in a long time, the imprint of his bedding remained, clearly indicating that no one had disturbed it.
He took out his key and opened the wardrobe, carefully retrieving a small gift box from inside. The box wasn't large or exquisite, but judging by Jufeng's demeanor, it held significant value.
At least for Jufeng, it was worth quite a bit.
He tucked the gift box into his pocket and murmured, "Buddy, I’m counting on you today!"
...
Huan City University had numerous teaching buildings that soared into the sky. Jufeng and Tong Bailong entered one of them and made their way to the twentieth floor. The classroom bell rang; it was a large lecture hall capable of accommodating around two hundred students, and about half of them were already seated. The course was a foundational class called Mechanical Processes and Development. Jufeng scanned the room and suddenly spotted something that caught his eye; he quickly pulled Tong Bailong over to sit down.
They squeezed into a middle seat in the front row where a beautiful girl was already seated gracefully.
"Wow? You actually decided to come to class?"
A voice mixed with teasing curiosity rang in Jufeng's ears. He chuckled in response, quickly adopting a shameless demeanor as he prepared to remain unfazed by any rain or wind that might come his way.
The girl was none other than Jiang Xue, one of the Five Golden Flowers from Azure Waterside, a rising star in the mechanical engineering department alongside Jufeng.
Since returning from the capital, the Five Sisters Group had temporarily halted some of their promotional activities. To outsiders, the press conference incident in the capital seemed trivial, but the sisters did not dare to take it lightly. Thus, all five sisters returned to school to focus on their studies and nurture their talents.
Sister Five, Sister Dai, and Sister Four were at Huan City University. Second Sister had originally been at Beijing University of International Business and Economics but later transferred to Huan Cheng University of Finance. Eldest Sister had previously been an auditing student at Huan City Music Academy, majoring in pop singing. As for Mei, she was the most burdened among the sisters, currently in her senior year at a high school in Washing City. Now she was secluded in a corner of Washing City, deeply immersed in her studies, temporarily leaving Azure Waterside behind.
Mei came from a family with a rich academic background. If it weren't for her insistence on debuting as a singer and having her cousin looking out for her with promises not to neglect her studies, she would have stayed home. With various incidents occurring now and all activities canceled for the time being, she naturally had to confine herself to her studies.
The college entrance examination system was detrimental; yet after hundreds of years of The Passage of Time, there had been no improvements to this system. What could we expect? Returning to the present, Jufeng maintained an innocent smile while Jiang Xue could only snort coldly and turn away, ignoring him.
However, how could Jufeng give up? He had his subordinates stationed at Azure Waterside for security, so safety was assured. But he hadn’t stayed there for several days now—especially not with Lu Da Mei around.
"Sister Xue, do you have time for lunch today? I’d like to treat you," he said.
Clearly, Jufeng had no special tricks up his sleeve when it came to charming girls; he resorted to his usual method of seeking favors.
Sister Xue remained silent and indifferent, pretending to pay attention in class while it was unclear if she was genuinely focused on the lesson.
"Sister Xue, I missed class a few days ago; could you help me review what we've learned?" he continued.
Sister Xue still did not respond.
"Sister Xue, I heard a new movie just came out; how about…"
After enduring this for a minute, Sister Xue finally couldn't hold back any longer and snapped, "What do you want?"
"Ha ha, I just wanted to ask," Jufeng wiped the sweat from his forehead without leaving a trace. "Has Sister Dai come to class today? Which classroom is Sister Xue in?" Jufeng finally revealed his true intention, a rare smile appearing at the corner of his mouth, but he quickly feigned seriousness and said, "It's none of your business whether Sister Dai comes or not; I wouldn't know."
Jufeng chuckled to mask his embarrassment, thinking that dealing with women was indeed not simple. Seeing that Sister Xue showed no signs of relenting, he stammered, "Um, Sister Xue, that new movie that just came out, it reportedly uses cutting-edge technology for the first time. Have you seen it…"
Sister Xue nearly fainted.
After a ninety-minute lecture, Jufeng hurriedly bid farewell to Sister Xue and Tong Bailong, escaping to the next class and heading toward another teaching building.
After some persistent questioning during class, Jufeng finally learned where Sister Dai was. He found out that she only had one class in the morning, so he quickly sought an opportunity to catch up with her.
As soon as Jufeng went downstairs and had not yet reached another building, he unexpectedly ran into Lu Qijia on the way. It was quite a coincidence; the two were less than ten meters apart, surrounded by students who had become part of the scenery.
A sea breeze swept in, gently caressing the woman's dark hair; she held a book close to her chest, her grip tightening around it.
"Sister Dai, I..."
"Don't. Let's take a walk."
After the autumn rain, there was a hint of sharpness in the wind. Jufeng gently took off his coat and draped it over the woman's thin shoulders. The two sat in silence by the lake.
The wind rustled through the bamboo grove, creating a sound that seemed to praise someone for shedding their clothes.
Passing through the bamboo thicket, they sat on a wooden bench by the lake. Not far away, there were couples cuddling together, which made the two by the lake feel a slight bitterness in their hearts.
"Are you feeling better now?"
Lu Qijia opened her mouth to ask, turning her head to look at Jufeng, her hair cascading over her shoulders in a beautiful manner.
"Um, alright." Jufeng gazed at the cheek so close to him, seemingly less tense than before, replaced by an indescribable sense of happiness. "There have been some matters, which is why I haven't gone to Azure Waterside. Can I go tonight?"
Gathering his courage, Jufeng finally asked the question. It felt somewhat ambiguous, but both understood its meaning.
"I haven't dismissed you; you're still our bodyguard! I won't dock your pay for the time you've missed, but from now on, you must focus on your duties." As Lu Qijia spoke, her eyes sparkled brightly like two pools of water or two moons, stirring Jufeng's heart. After hearing Sister Dai's words, he felt exceptionally happy, and their gazes intertwined as they both burst into laughter.
The laughter echoed in the air, startling two fish in the lake and creating ripples that spread outwards.
Suddenly, Lu Qijia leaned against Jufeng's embrace, and the laughter abruptly ceased.
"Do you know? I'm really worried about you. Hearing about what you're doing from Dad is very dangerous. I've spent several nights unable to rest well. Promise me you'll be careful; I've gotten used to having you by my side."
Listening to the soft murmurs of the woman in his arms, Jufeng's heart skipped a beat. It was only then that he finally realized he was truly in love.
Is this what first love feels like? It's so warm.
"I promise you." Jufeng gently rested his chin on Lu Qijia's forehead and affectionately rubbed it a couple of times. "I will take good care of myself. I will protect you for a lifetime."
Jufeng repeated "I" three times—not to emphasize anything but because he genuinely cared. It was not just a man's promise to his beloved in Canglang One Floating Life.
He adjusted the beauty in his arms and pulled out a gift box from his pocket, handing it to her. Lu Qijia brushed her hair back and confirmed with a questioning gaze before opening the box.
Inside the box was no prank but simply a delicate ornament. The material was unknown but looked exquisite; it felt smooth and cool to the touch—exceptionally comfortable—with a moderately thick pink cord threaded through the center of the key.
"Is this for me?" Lu Qijia asked joyfully.
"This is from my mother to her future daughter-in-law."
Jufeng was not one to express himself well or to be overly sentimental, and Lu Qijia knew this. She understood that Jufeng could present this without a second thought. Leaning forward, Lu Qijia pressed her soft lips against Jufeng's, and before he could react, she pulled away.
Seeing Jufeng's stunned expression, Lu Qijia revealed a triumphant smile and then handed him the key, signaling for him to put it on her.
One morning by the lakeside, a boy placed a key around a girl's neck, and a girl entrusted her life to a boy.
A breeze swept by as Jufeng and Lu Qijia embraced each other, unaware that a pair of sinister eyes were watching them from a distance.
