Pirate Star Although they were all pirates, not all of them lived in luxury. The morning light was growing fainter, and in this unremarkable residential area, more and more people were getting out of bed, their voices gradually becoming louder, and the atmosphere thickening with vitality. A Squad's barracks were tightly packed together, arranged in a neat yet staggered manner. From time to time, those who had risen would greet each other, and some families had already begun to cook, with wisps of smoke rising straight into the sky.
Jufeng had been engrossed in conversation with a woman for quite a long time. They did not delve into heavy topics about life aspirations; after all, not everyone liked to hang such burdensome subjects on their lips. The woman's mood had fluctuated but remained bright afterward, often ringing with a series of bell-like laughter.
As their conversation neared its end, the woman suddenly recalled a serious question and asked urgently, "Why haven't you called me by my name? Not even a simple 'hey'? Is there some reason behind it?"
Jufeng flinched at her words, looking like someone caught sneaking a treat. He stammered for a moment under her almost threatening gaze before finally confessing.
"Because your name is very similar to my girlfriend's. I keep thinking of her, so I haven't dared to say it."
Lu Hongyu's sister, Lu Qijia, although spelled differently, sounded exactly the same, which made Jufeng feel somewhat hesitant.
"Oh?" The woman asked with an intriguing tone, her pitch slightly changing. "Why didn't she come with you?"
"She's waiting for me to return to her."
"…So how do you usually call her?"
"Jia'er."
"Ah, Wind."
The woman revealed a sly smile, her perfectly aligned white teeth as serene and charming as ever.
"Hehe—" Another round of bell-like laughter erupted, startling A Squad's Red Phoenix.
……
They exchanged silent glances—not tears streaming down but rather faint smiles before turning away. When Jufeng returned to the barracks, Bill, the king of daily chores, had already prepared a table of breakfast that wasn't exquisite but was quite tasty. Chuyang was already up, sitting at the table with her lips pursed and cheeks puffed out. Upon hearing the door open, she glanced up but quickly turned her face away when she met Jufeng's gaze. With one hand holding a chopstick, she clearly conveyed—this girl was very angry.
Jufeng naturally sensed the slight sourness in the air and couldn't help but chuckle inwardly, thinking that Sister Ni's personality was rather too lively. When they first met on the spaceship, she had been quite the obedient girl; however, as they became more familiar with each other, Sister Ni grew increasingly bold. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing; being quirky and spirited was more appealing. Yet some aspects of Sister Ni had matured significantly—like how they would jostle in the mecha or the glaring jealousy she displayed now.
Jufeng feigned confusion and walked over to sit beside Chuyang, casting a quick glance at Bill. His eyes squinted playfully before he spoke in an unusual tone.
"Who has been bullying our dear Chuyang? Is it you, Bill? Come on, confess and apologize to our princess."
"Yes, yes! Ah! I cooked last night, and I must have made the princess hungry. I hope she can forgive me!"
Bill and Jufeng played off each other, and Romain gave Bill an approving look. He then glanced at Chuyang's expression; the corners of her mouth finally showed a slight change, which eased Romain's worries.
Chuyang was not particularly amused by Romain and Bill's antics, but she felt it would be rude not to give them some face. Her expression softened slightly, but her tone remained firm.
"Daddy is such a lecher! He ignores me whenever he sees a pretty woman. Bad daddy!"
Jufeng affectionately scooped her up, his finger brushing against the tip of Chuyang's nose. "Silly girl, where did Daddy ignore you? I just saw you were still asleep, so I went out to stretch my legs. I promise that from now on, as soon as you open your eyes, you'll see Daddy right there. How about that?"
Upon hearing Romain's promise, Chuyang's expression completely relaxed, and she giggled again. Romain let out a long sigh of relief.
After they finished their meal, there was a knock at the door. It was Lu Hongyu from next door, calling for Romain to join him for hunting. To conceal his abilities, Romain decided not to take Chuyang along and left Bill to watch over her.
Most of the food on Pirate Star was self-produced; fruits and vegetables were grown by themselves, while meat came from raising livestock and hunting. Although they were pirates, actual robbery only happened once or twice a year. Azure Dragon Monk allowed them to settle here mainly because they could create a significant labor force for various businesses; they needed people to keep things running smoothly. People like Lu Hongyu had never participated in any robbery; life on Pirate Planet was not harsh, so they primarily focused on hunting for sustenance. Though it might seem dull at times, one got used to it.
The group consisted of about twenty people—poor souls who had drifted here out of necessity but were unwilling to cause trouble. There was an unspoken camaraderie among them as fellow wanderers, allowing everyone to converse easily. Once they entered the mountains, the group scattered; Jufeng teamed up with Lu Hongyu as they navigated through the thorns in the forest.
Before long, a deer appeared nearby, its head held high as it looked around cautiously. With no streams in sight within the woods, it seemed this deer had lost its way—a true twist of fate.
Lu Hongyu and Jufeng crouched down behind some bushes. Each carried a bow on their back and had a short knife tucked into their belts. Initially unfamiliar with archery, Jufeng had little interest in it despite having access to lessons in Yanhuang City. However, during their time together over the past few days, Lu Hongyu had taught him quite a bit; thus, his skills were likely decent by now.
Lu Hongyu glanced at Jufeng as if urging him to give it a try. Romain naturally did not hesitate; he retrieved his bow from his back and set it up smoothly. Drawing an arrow and nocking it took no time at all—so fluidly that even Lu Hongyu widened his eyes in surprise when he saw the bow take on a crescent shape.
"Whoosh!" The arrow flew forth with tremendous speed; within fifty meters, it struck true just as the deer prepared to bolt away—piercing its throat.
Seeing this unfold made Romain feel slightly embarrassed as he chuckled awkwardly. "It seems my accuracy hasn't improved much; I aimed for the heart but missed by quite a distance."
Lu Hongyu praised without reservation, "It's alright. After all, you've only been practicing for half a month. This progress, in my eyes, is truly remarkable. I've never seen anyone pick it up so quickly. Impressive, impressive!"
Jufeng chuckled, thinking that it must be due to his solid foundation in training that everything felt just right. He laughed it off and didn’t dwell on the matter.
Not long after entering the mountains, the two had gathered quite a bounty, to the point where neither could spare a hand, and their shoulders bore a significant load. When they regrouped at the designated spot, everyone had something to show for their efforts. As the sun began to set, they started their journey back. However, on the way back, they suddenly heard the sound of propellers. Looking up, they saw two helicopters flying overhead, dragging two mechs.
Everyone laughed, wondering what the monk was up to this time, and continued on their way without giving it much thought. Yet, no one noticed that Jufeng's figure trembled slightly as those two mechs passed overhead.
Because those mechs were very familiar, glaringly bright, and unsettling.
