Since the opening of Interstellar Space, the military branches have shown a trend of diversification. With the successful development of mechs, Mecha Soldiers have become the most sought-after unit on the modern battlefield due to their agility and lethal capabilities.
Just like previous soldiers, there are ordinary troops as well as special forces. The renowned Marine Corps and the Northeast Tiger Special Forces from the Yangcheng Military District are outstanding representatives of this distinction. To differentiate abilities and encourage progress among soldiers, the military established a mech ranking assessment system, where each Mecha Soldier is assigned a corresponding rank.
Overall, there are four ranks: Crimson, Azure, Emerald, and Violet, each divided into three tiers, with decreasing difficulty. Hua Cheng's Jufeng has entered the Crimson Rank, which is easily distinguishable from other ranks due to its most obvious feature: those in this rank can perform attacks with human-like agility and effectiveness in automatic mode.
Crimson-Class Mecha soldiers are rare throughout the universe; each one is revered as a War God. The entire Galactic Ironclad Corps consists of three hundred thousand personnel, and among the most skilled mech users in the universe, there are fewer than twenty Crimson-Class Mecha soldiers. This highlights just how difficult it is to achieve this rank.
Thus, when Hua Cheng saw the coward he had mocked earlier suddenly display Crimson Rank abilities, he was completely stunned, unable to believe his eyes.
The Terrorists across from him were equally incredulous.
As Liu Gulang had speculated, the Azure Dragon Monk was indeed part of this Terrorist group and was even leading dozens of mechs. They had been executing a special mission in the mountains, and the explosions on the plains were under his remote control. Initially intending to clear the battlefield and complete their mission before leaving, they never expected to encounter a Crimson Rank Mecha Soldier along the way.
"Are you sure it's a Crimson Rank?"
Upon hearing a subordinate's report, the Azure Dragon Monk asked in confusion.
The subordinate confirmed firmly, "Absolutely. While Azure Level experts can sometimes perform similar maneuvers due to their agility with mechanisms, they would never be that fluid. So he must be a Crimson Rank."
Despite receiving further confirmation from his subordinate, the Azure Dragon Monk still found it hard to believe. Logically speaking, such a desolate planet shouldn't attract a Crimson Rank soldier. Could it be that their actions had been foreseen by the Cosmic Police?
This didn't make sense; if they had indeed caught wind of their plans beforehand, they wouldn't have risked such significant losses by allowing nearly two hundred soldiers to perish here.
Not wanting to dwell on it too much—regardless of whether a Crimson Rank soldier was present—their side had dozens of mechs, including many elites. There was no reason to be afraid!
"All Azure Level and above should go out to meet him; if necessary, just concentrate fire and take him down."
Following the Azure Dragon Monk's orders, eight mechs emerged from the Mecha Group. Their thrusters activated as they slowly flew toward Jufeng.
The three mechs that had been kicked away by Jufeng struggled on the ground before retreating from the battlefield. Meanwhile, Hua Cheng heard Jufeng's voice in his ear.
"Take these injured to my friend."
Hua Cheng felt a surge of shame and anger at Jufeng's words, wishing he could find a crack in the ground to hide in. Unfortunately, the area was filled with dark, uneven terrain, leaving no such escape.
With the enemy looming, Hua Cheng quickly shook off his embarrassment and returned to his military demeanor. He understood the implications of Jufeng's words, so he struggled to stand up and, along with Vera behind him, helped the injured toward the edge where Liu Gulang was located.
A few hundred meters was nothing for a mecha; they reached their destination in an instant. Eight mechas surrounded Jufeng from all directions, intending to trap him like a fish in a barrel.
However, Jufeng had no intention of surrendering.
In the brief moment before the encirclement closed in, Jufeng suddenly dashed in one direction. In automatic mode, his ground-based short-distance sprint was as fast as lightning. In the blink of an eye, he leaped right in front of his opponent.
But being an Azure Level Mecha Soldier, he was already prepared for this moment. With arms crossed over his chest and legs bent slightly, he assumed the best defensive posture while airborne. He was ready to be knocked back but knew that as long as he could hold Jufeng's position, his comrades would unleash their firepower upon him.
If Jufeng faced him directly, then behind him were seven other mechas ready to rain down fire. Indeed, it would be a baptism of artillery fire as the Terrorist had anticipated. But Jufeng would never turn his back on an enemy; just as the attack was about to strike the Terrorist, he spun around mid-air.
This maneuver placed him directly in front of incoming artillery from seven directions while behind him was the curled-up mass of his opponent.
"Bang!"
The violent clash of steel sent the Terrorist flying backward, while Jufeng's forward momentum caused him to hover briefly in mid-air for two seconds.
Had he not turned around, he would have been helpless against the artillery fire approaching from behind.
Now that he had turned, he had options for defense or deflecting that firepower.
Each mecha was equipped with offensive artillery as well as defensive weapons. One type called interference beams could disrupt the trajectory of incoming fire.
As Seven Groups of Artillery Fire converged from both afar and near, Jufeng's mecha lit up with its first signal.
It was a disruption beam, and at close range, it was difficult to alter the trajectory of Shell. Thus, Seven Groups of Artillery Fire continued to target Jufeng.
But was Jufeng's effort in vain?
The disruption beam indeed did not change much in terms of trajectory, but it caused Seven Groups of Artillery Fire to converge prematurely before hitting its target. The intense energy erupted instantaneously, creating a dazzling spectacle in midair.
Even if Seven Groups of Artillery Fire did not hit Jufeng, the accumulated energy would still inflict some damage. Therefore, after releasing the disruption beam, a second light illuminated the body of Jufeng.
Isolation rounds, another type of area defense weapon, could neutralize the radiation damage from the explosion of Shell. So despite the shockwave still raging, there was no substantial harm to Jufeng's body.
At that moment, Jufeng executed the same defensive maneuver as the previous Terrorist.
The rolling heat wave swept Jufeng away from its suspended position in midair for two seconds. Due to the immense energy, Jufeng was propelled backward at an incredibly high initial speed. It quickly caught up with the mecha it had just sent flying.
The Terrorist stared in disbelief at the nearby Jufeng, seemingly unable to comprehend why the Crimson-Class Mecha, which should have been "bathing" in artillery fire, had suddenly reappeared beside him.
However, no one could provide him with an answer.
The Terrorist, overwhelmed with confusion, forgot to assume a defensive stance.
Thus, he met his tragic fate.
Inside the mecha cockpit, Jufeng smiled as fists and feet moved in unison. The external mecha also operated with remarkable agility, delivering relentless blows to the Terrorist. After enduring a barrage of physical attacks, the latter suddenly plummeted downward.
"Boom!"
The entire mecha crashed into the plain, raising a cloud of dust that obscured its form above ground level.
Jufeng gracefully landed as well; throughout the entire process, he emerged virtually unscathed.
The seven mechs had already arrived, shifting the entire battlefield a hundred meters toward the opposite edge. They watched Jufeng with keen eyes, but none dared to make a move.
Jufeng was quite pleased with his earlier performance. From a causal perspective, the cause he had sown had yielded the result he needed, which felt fair. During his years of rest in Washing City, amidst the gaps of interstellar travel, Jufeng seized every opportunity to broaden his horizons—learning about technology, mechs, and how to cleverly combine various offensive and defensive weapons on them.
If the previous Jufeng had merely treated mechs as tools, now he truly regarded them as mechs to be utilized effectively.
And he was quite successful at it.
He emerged from the smoke and dust, slowly approaching the seven Azure Level Mecha, completely reversing his earlier passive stance.
The battle had only just begun.
